- In this enlightening TEDx Talk, explore the ancient myths of Orpheus, the legendary musician, poet, and prophet from Greek mythology, to uncover timeless lessons on charisma. Scott Mason is the Myth Slayer: an attorney and executive leadership coach for stuck and unhappy lawyers looking to obliterate toxic personal myths -- so that they and their teams can become more engaged, creative, and resilient. Among other accomplishments, he led a division responsible for programmatic oversight of 300+ senior centers and home-delivered meal providers; was second-in-command of NYC's central administrative law court; and served as the General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and head of operations for the USA's largest provider of domestic violence shelters. Before founding his current business, Scott successfully grew and scaled a small manufacturing company into a two-city operation with clients that included some of the most recognized corporate names in the USA. He currently sits on the Career Advancement & Management and the Attorney Mindfulness and Well-Being Committees of the NYC Bar Association. Knowing you for over 30 years, I agree with a commenter “It’s hard to believe that Scott Mason was ever anything other than charismatic.” You have always been charismatic about your passions. This talk is electrifying! So great and instructive to weave the myth of Orpheus’ self doubting his destiny with Eurydice with what to me we call debilitating negative self talk. So inspiring to show us a universal forceful urge to change!

Using metaphors of dark and light, Scott captures us as we join him underground to imagine and experience the story of Orpheus, Hades and the beautiful ghost of Eurydice.
My mouth literally dropped open at the moment Orpheus saw Eurydice (back from death).
In the dictionary and root word definition, charisma means grace. For me, and Scott has reinforced this, it is a personal light that shines out which illuminates those we meet and expresses our values in life.
