I think that's the flip side of Jon's point about feeling powerless. The bad guys are in control which is how I justify my lot in life, but I personally am in the know about them so at least I have some form of power, and in fact am superior to the "sheep" who don't even realize how miserable they are. Any conspiracy theory belief is about rebuilding ego after a legit loss. Let's reframe the story, sometimes the whole world, rather than admit a fair defeat.

The search for the comfort of reassurance of the “why’s” in life is universal, but ends in the next one that we face. What I hear from Jon is that we need to move away from the subjective reaction to an objective response to what pops up in our live feed. Until we are able to disconnect from the emotional meat hooks that too much information brings, the power of “opinions” will continue to blind and divide us. Thank you Jon for being clear and calm in these times.

I was never told that "America is the best in the world." Never. I do think what you say applies to a "significant portion of the US," but it is far from everyone and everywhere. When a popular & honest candidate came up (Bernie) he wasn't crushed by the people, but by the corporate interests of the DNC & of main stream media. Had he won we would now have the beginnings of medicare4all, student debt would be cancelled, a $15 minimum wage would the law, a Green New Deal would have been launched employing thousands, and on and on. You speak of your own background & it seems you have overcome the close-mindedness of it. Well done. QAnon is literally one guy who is lonely and bored who spends all day reading outrageous hate speech forums from 8chan and spins up new material for impact to keep his forum alive so he gets some ad money. Nobody becomes a qanon supporter overnight and they will not stop overnight. It is worth talking to them and listening to them. And once they feel you have listened to them, they may be more amenable to what you say to them. A very difficult thing to do admittedly. But when you outright reject them they they fall back into the arms and safe haven of fellow qanon followers where they feel they are being listened to. Just put your best argument to them and leave and hopefully it will slowly marinate into their thinking. For instance the basic cause that seems to bring people into qanon is fighting child abuse. Well say that you are also concerned about that problem but you looked into it and you have yet to find any examples of qanon people saving any children from anywhere. This goes to the very root of their thinking. Then they'll either go away and check it out or not. But at least you addressed their issue which is what they are looking for.

To solve the question of why people love QAnon one must define the question.
Simply, QAnon is an interactive, internet-based game based on a Reality-TV premise of governance. Think WWE but with governance instead of sports and throw in the interactivity of gaming.
    How to create a QAnon.
    * First set the topic: governance as entertainment ... child traffic ... etc.
    * Second, choose characters from the real world - politicians and celebrities.
    * Third, through a show runner (Q in this game) assign false motives, plots, intrigue, heroes, villians, etc. and capture them into story arcs which weave the real world and the fake world.
    * Fourth, add interactivity so that the audience can participate in the story ... find clues, build andd share linkages between plot elements, add new content, etc.
    * Fifth, role out new content to maintain interest.
How to get the game started ... simple don't tell them it is a game, otherwise it won't work. Think War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells ... that form of entertainment wouldn't have worked if the audience knew ahead of time that it was fake.
How to stop the game ... how do you break your teenager's addiction to video gaming ... not sure. Educate the population that QAnon is a game and like War of the Worlds many were duped ... nothing to be embarrassed about
Personally, I think such games based on governance should be illegal. Such a law could be constructed ... one that allows "Veep" (fake politicians doing funny stuff) and not QAnon (real world politicians and celebrities doing made up stuff.)
