- Vanlife adventures in Scotland. This week we take Daisy Ducato to the seaside town of Arbroath where we learn all about the Bell Rock lighthouse when we visit the Signal Tower museum.
Arbroath Abbey is our next port of call, a stunning ruin with one of the best graveyards we've EVER visited.
And while we're visiting Arbroath, Storm Isha comes to visit us, resulting in an impromptu shower and much hilarity (albeith with a VERY scary drive home later).
Oh, and Honour DeNiro meets Honour Sapphire, a kennel compatriot from his racing days
A huge thank you to everyone who's supported our wee channel so far, if you'd like to help support our wee adventures you can do it through through our Ko-Fi or Patreon.
All our videos are hand made from 100% organic ingredients ;). Our content is mostly filmed on a GoPro 11 with a Rode fluffy microphone to keep the wind noise down, with occasional bits on an iPhone13. We also use a DJI Mini 3 drone which we're loving getting to grips with.
We make our own music using GarageBand and the videos are edited in iMovie.
If you'd like to buy DeNiro a biscuit (and he's a good boy, honest) you can via our Ko-Fi link at www.ko-fi.com/ScotlandOnAShoes....
If you'd like to become a patron of our wee channel we also have a patreon at / scotlandonashoestring
We also have an Etsy shop where we sell some of our hand made items. It's at dandbbythesea.etsy.com
Take care, you three and Daisy!
We will!
I was really intrigued by that 1674 tomb and, being a library type, had to find out more. You probably already found this out yourselves but just in case you didn't, it is the Philp Monument. The coats of arms are for James Philp II of Almerieclose House, and his spouse, Margaret Graham. They married in 1653 and had 3 sons, one of whom wrote an epic poem called The Grameid. I found a drawing online of what the tomb looked like originally but unfortunately can't share it here. Hope I haven't bored anyone.
We haven’t yet, so thanks for that. We’ve found the drawing of the tomb, very grand.
The poem is hard going though 😜
@@scotlandonashoestring yes. Not even attempting it. I’m more a limerick girl. Lol
Relaxing watching the ocean splash over the jetty's and barriers. Funny how you thought that other greyhound was DeNiro. 🤭 Lots of good content, enjoyed very much.
Thank you. We do love the sound of the sea.
Smashing! The colour of the stone is gorgeous. It reminds me of Melrose Abbey.
Glad you got through the dodgy weather. Scary stuff!
It’s pretty similar, must have been something to see when it was active.
I am going to encourage you... you are hilarious! 😂
It’s not even deliberate ;)
I really love your videos they are very interesting, beautiful and make me giggle. 🤣
Thank you!! A giggle is always a good thing :)
WooHoo! at 14:59...I heard that!!!! Fingers crossed, one day.
It’s on our list of things to look out for :)
Another awesome video. It was good to see DeNiro in his element interacting with other greyhounds. The black and white pup looked like was a female. Did the wave get you?
Yes, you all have been getting a lot of storms. It can be a little scary driving in a storm, especially at night. We in SoCal are getting another storm. Last week the rainstorm we had dropped 3.5” of rain. This storm is suppose to be worst. Batten down the hatches 😮 Take care…
She was from the same kennels as DeNiro :) And yes, the wave well and truly got me.
Excellent episode, thank you all very much! Be well, stay safe all. 😊💞🥰💜👍
Thank you! You too!
I love old graveyards/cemeteries. We once ended up in an indigenous graveyard in
British Columbia Canada. Vedy interesting.
That sounds interesting. Just googled those, special places.
Arbroath abbey is 700yr older - The declaration of arbroath and the scots declation of their independence! The abbey is arbroaths most important or valuable site by a long shot =) cheers for the video !
Great one! Thanks
You're welcome!
I found out by some research about my Grt Grandpa James. He was born in Scotland and was trained by a Master Mason in his early teenage years. His work took him all over Scotland. He immigrated to the USA settling in San Francisco. I am enjoying going along with you on your adventures. I like charity shops a great deal.
It’s so interesting to find out more about your family. Thanks for watching we love charity shops as you’ve probably guessed!
charity shops hold treasures as well as not so items. I read a great deal so finding a book for10 cents US or a lil more rather than 25.99 to me is worth the hunt. I used to buy thread as my Grandmother tatted . Today my youngest daughter crochets dog n cat sweaters. @@scotlandonashoestring
My home town. When i was young traffic still went through the abbey arch including buses. The sea wall in front of your van was damaged in a storm last week.
It was some storm, the seagulls weren’t even braving it.
@@scotlandonashoestring next time you are here have a walk along the cliff path, even on rough days it has beauty. You can pick up a leaflet telling you all the interesting points.
Double deckers used to pass through the Abbey Street arch, there is photographic evidence
Wow, they would be a tight squeeze
Ooo a crochet Unicorn!! Your next project Bex 😉 The twirly bits are easy, I do similar for octopus - just do 2 or 3 st in each st of a chain and it'll curl by itself. My Dad was based in Arbroath when he was in the Fleet Air Arm. I don't envy you that journey in the storm! Geez scary bananas!!
Hi thanks for the crochet tips I’ll try some spirals but don’t think I’ll manage the whole 🦄.
@@scotlandonashoestringYou're welcome - you can of course use any st you like, doesn't have to be hdc. Haha I'm not sure I'd manage it either!
The unicorn was made by the Woolly Workers. They also put out seasonal displays at Danger Point
@@Vintangus oh cool!
Shanks of lawnmower fame gave rise to the phrase Shank's Pony - lawnmowers were previously driven by ponies wearing big overshoes, or flocks of sheep...
The garden labourers disliked the hardwork caused by pushmowers LOL 😂!
PS Arbroath born, and bred... can remember the Sea Wall long before the cages
My Grandad always used the phrase Shanks’s Pony. Nice to know where it came from.
What is the camper van situation like in general in Scotland? Is it hard to find legal places to park overnight? Or are they reasonably common?
It’s generally not too bad. Out in the sticks no one minds and most cities have somewhere or other that campers are tolerated. We use an app called Park4Night and it usually turns up somewhere nearby.
Nae tae sure the signal tower trumps Arbroath abbey or even the Star chipper on Millgate loan!
We'll have to get back to check out the Star.
Major significance to find his grave still in tacked. You know he had the longest reign?
You just walked through a time capsule.
We were surprised to find it there. That was the high altar when the Abbey was in use.
04:37 OMG!! Iain, you sly dog!! Clearly this is NOT a family friendly vlog. 😲🤣🤣🙄
🤭Very popular pastime, fishing.
