    One thing folks seem to forget when reviving early 2000s cartoons is the anime influence.
    Code lyoko was one of those shows and evolution seems to have tossed that out the window.

    More than a sequel, I think a prequel has all the potentials.
    Like showing the creation of Project Carthage, the creation of XANA, the escape of Schaeffaer and Aelita after Anthea's disappereance, the creation of Lyoko and XANA's going mad.
    Making It 2 seasons 26 episode each and voilà.

      Yes. Code Lyoko is a show I look back on fondly, but I never watched the whole series until a couple of years ago. I must say that as an older viewer now, the entire secret government project concept was very cool to me.

    What Lyoko needs is a reanimation in the form of a small movie series (like Digimon) or a straight up Netflix remake. I really hate the dated animation and full potential in these books not used to it’s full merit. This really well crafted original story deserves the modern day treatment, not a couple novels with basically a filler plot. Had no idea they even made books until I stumbled upon this video.

    Now THIS was an absolute treat, my guy. Excellent breakdown- watched the whole thing. Fantastic all around. Honestly, pretty much agree with every take you had. Even if Chronicles isn't all that perfect, it was incredibly refreshing regardless of any criticism I have.
    Do consider doing more CL stuff- those would surely be fun watches as well.
    Here's a bunch of thoughts I saved until the end-
    *Evolution*
    12:08 - In Exposure, Aelita mentions that she was homeschooled. To be fair, that doesn't necessarily mean she didn't have friends, but surely a considerable amount less than she would have had (whereas in Chronicles, she went to Kadic, interestingly enough !).
    17:19 - You've legit justified Evolution Sissi for me. Thank you, kind sir lmao. I've never crossed those bits.
    26:55 - Ah no worries there- He used it, but it looked pretty nerfed. The main instance I remember him using this in was against his clone in False Pretenses.
    28.36 - To be fair, by recreating the sectors, at the root of it, that'd surely just be a headache for more ground to cover. That being said, I have taken any reason for their return- let alone their inclusion from the getgo, but unfortunate circumstances as you theorize would indeed be unfortunate.
    48:18 - Not to mention, Ulirch's bit in False Start about those that die don't come back... it still spooks me that he said it so confidently, mind you, him, not Jeremie overflowing with theory like usual (Ah nice, you brought that up).
    53:27 - Lazy writing go brr ohohoho. Mfw I knew you were saving that for last.
    1:02:44 - Nah, he says the same thing in the French version. Furthermore, Season 2 is actually weird imo. I absolutely swear, anecdotally & possibily irrelevantly in terms of original writing, that the animation matches the English version. A simple justification bandaid for this could honestly be that he's scuffed the program before during design and goofed chunks of his own memory. Actually, additional weight to this is that even before the RTTP is discovered / rediscovered in that moment, he was still counting project days on only June 6th.
    1:03:22 - That works too ohooh... although, that project day count consideration just rewired my brain lmaooo
    *Chronicles*
    1:16:59 - I was actually pretty alright with the amnesia bit. It could mostly just be the nostalgic beat relative to Season 1, but honestly, I thought this thread was not only cleaned up pretty neatly, but also tied into the overarching events rather well. The whole initial get-together at the hermitage with such a warmly articulated atmosphere with nobody but your closest lads you haven't seen for a hot minute (viewer moment ohoho) hit kinda home. It was really welcoming, I felt.
    1:17:52 - Honestly, I thought the flashbacks were solid in their paced increments. In my mind, I wasn't looking for a quick Wikipedia recap, I wanted a cohesive interconnected story with a consistent tone. There were some nice additional seeds in those flashbacks that coincided well, such as the seed of the Green Phoenix markings in the sewers (eyyy you mention this too ! Spot on !), the early introduction to the Carthage-esque riddles, etc.
    1:18:48 - Ohhhhhh the pain xD I bruhed so hard when I figured that out. I was honestly taken aback with the incredible amount of elaboratation on the events of the Prequel + Season 1, but then to find that the rest of the whole series was literally compressed into just about a singular event absolutely whiplashed me- genuine p a i n. It surely could have been so much better.
    1:20:01 - Ahhh to be fair, that was a big boi.
    1:20:22 - OHOHOHO LOVED IT. STAAAAAKES. WEIGHT. Additionally, to be fair, albeit incredibly bruhmode, a head injury of such gravity doesn't *explicitly* (emphasis on explicitly) equate to death or loss of consiousness. I feel like she talked and I'd probably feel better if she didn't should she have (reading back, it looks like she starts to goof eventually), but I don't care enough lmao.
    1:21:06 - Thank you again, sir. I like to hear that. I must have skimmed that bit or assumed too hard, fresh from a retcon the size of an artistically unconstrained forehead ohoho
    1:22:16 - If I'm not mistaken, this was actually the catalyst in Franz's decision to bring Aelita to Lyoko- to save her, as virtualization would repair her, and in turn, preserve the freshly-planted backup in her head (I thought it was another part of Code Down before I reread the ending there omegalel). Imo, this justifies their virtulizations a decent lot more than merely running away into a computer, instead, utilizing it for a critical benefit.
    1:32:02 - Whoof the "destiny" bit. Kinda meh I thought ohohoh. Poetic, but meh.
    1:32:26 - Truuue. I don't hate it myself, but I do feel the slight cringe. *Except* for Walter- he was done very well.
    1:34:50 - Eh, to be fair, over the course of the original series, it could easily be interpreted that XANA was already on the path to becoming more human. He learned emotion (and how to manipulate them; his failure in Ghost Channel actually revolved around his lack of understanding the nuance in humanity), progressed to possessing humans, articulated more emotionally through spectres, & William. That's it though- it really should have never escalted beyond a desire. Completely agree on the "oh it was just a bug" bit xD
    1:36:37 - No, don't remind me of that. That's illegal. That being said, suepr happy Jeremy was on Lyoko in some form, but eternal cringe.
    1:40:47 - Definitely neat, but I'm still kinda meh on it. XANA shouldn't have lived imo, but the redemption was cool, literal humanity arc aside. The Lyoko recreation is neat though as a static forever-existing place. Too many memory shenanigans throughout though. Loved the translation / real-world Lyoko warrior bit- just like season 4 but hella more lit because it's treated like an incredible one-time event, the absolute climax, and it's XANA who makes it possible.
    1:47:48 - Really good points about Mago's backstory & lack of interaction with Aelita.
    1:52:47 - B r u h m o d e

    I did feel that much of the Chronicles book series had a fair few inconsistencies/retcons that could be really hard to swallow. Aside from the things Commander Wof brings up in this video, there are things like entirely writing out the so-called "virus"/missing memory fragment and putting in the whole "copy of Lyoko in her brain" thing instead; a few places' layouts being radically different in some obvious ways that are easy to pick up on; Aelita having attended school rather than be homeschooled, despite the fact that Delmas and Jim somehow recognized a photo of Franz Hopper but didn't connect the little girl with him in the photo with his daughter who supposedly attended school when Hopper was teaching there; the apparent lack of Return To The Past; the Subdigitals ("Ceb Digitals"?) having a noticeably different setup and style of music; and the plot of the Replikas clearly never happened as opposed to just not having been discussed, given how the books handle the discoveries of the First City and Mirror, XANA's convoluted method of translating the Lyoko Warriors with their powers to the real world, and the complete absence of the Skidbladnir having ever existed.
    All in all, I considered the books a pretty all right read, only if I think of them as entirely AU to the original series instead of trying to slot them into canon in my mind.

    Been a huge fan of code lyoko since childhood. Was definitely a core memory. Always wanted to know the lore and background of the show - they touched on in but never revealed anything much more. Like the men in black, where did the mom go, the whole organization etc. I learned of Evolution when it first aired and didn’t like it. And just recently did I find out about Chronicles. My childhood questions have finally been fulfilled . I see the books as a more “mature” flushed out narrative where the original is limited due to the nature of it being a children show. So glad I found this video.

    I just realized that I forgot to include the poll results for the overall thoughts on Evolution, so here they are, in the same order as the other responses.
    If you watched Code Lyoko Evolution, what were your thoughts on the ending? Provide reasons, if you can, on why you felt the ending was or wasn't satisfying and conclusive:
    Decent on it's own but awful as a continuation of the original series
    Bleh.
    Bad decisions, bad actors, strange and non respectfull episodes with the literaly bible...
    i rlly hate how they implemented things to real life and the changes to lyoko. the season's quality is pretty amazing . i also hate the useless character luara , like wtf is she doing
    kind of a bummer cuz its live action. the specters walked so slowly
    Decent, happy that we got something. People give it to much shit for being live action.
    far duller than the original should have honestly continued with the same premice and setup but have xana return as he did and the 2d should not have been replaced with live action the mix of 2d and 3d is what made the show so unique in the first place
    Did not like it. I honestly did not even like the newer updated animations. Preferred the older animation. The story was there a bit but not executed well at all.
    My favourite and the best “live action based on a cartoon tv show (not animated movie)” (that continues the original plot). By default due to how bad and low the majority of live action tv shows based on a cartoon generally fall. Its not on par with the original but its not the worst thing ever (ehem dbe, tla). Overall a 6,5/10 , the acting could be better, xana attacks couldve been majorly improved by basic lightning effects shooting out of hands, but animation wise and storywise its good. its a ok continuation and has some rewatch value. Too bad it ended when it was almost getting almost on par with the og first season quality.
    The character designs are perfect but it's not like the original Code Lyoko it's too much realistic
    Code Lyoko Evolution is by definition, wasted potential. The Live-Action was honestly a bad decision, the whole show feels like a Disney Channel sitcom, with the acting level of a CW show. The Actors do look the part and I know they're doing their best with the material they have, but with most of them, they have very inconsistent acting. They either act differently than the originals or they try but they still always suck in most scenes. Having Xana back fills me with dread because I was hoping for the new villains to shine more, but even Tyron is a very weak antagonist. The only goon thing I like is The Lyoko Scenes, I really do love the 3D in this sequel series. Overall, it's ok. (Sorry for the long answer)
    hmm... 3d parts are good enough but bad acting and low budget environment on live action. I mean lycee lakanal (inspiration of kadic) is exist. they could rent the garden during summer vacation.
    Wasted potential and poorly executed.

    In regards to the RTTP and memories, I say it's like a cloud backup. When an RTTP is triggered, it takes their memories of someone scanned, saves them, and at the point in time the RTTP reverts the world to, pastes them back onto the consciousness of that same person in the past. The physical body is completely different as we see their injuries (broken bones, amnesia from brain damage, whatever condition was in killer music) gone after the RTTP.
    Edit: I like the ideas and closure in Chronicles, and it at least feels like Code Lyoko except for the very last bit. I don't appreciate how easily XANA had a redemption. EVO doesn't really feel the same thematically, look the same, or close the questions the fans had, plus it doesn't have its own ending and instead leaves events on a cliffhanger. I speedread through 2 of the books when I discovered them, then had a moment of reflection where I realized the remaining two books were the only new official CL content I would ever find. So I waited a few months before I reread and finished all of Chronicles and it left me with a sense of melancholy. Things were done. Not perfect, but questions were answered even if I didn't agree with them or were only possible because of a retcon.
    And then I found out Evolution wasn't a fan project, but an official canon continuation. Imagine going from having closure to expecting a better ending than what I had already accepted, and then getting EVO.
    That being said. I love this series and thanks for 2 whole hours of your thoughts and examination.

    • @CommanderWof
      @CommanderWof  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The process is a little different, but it's essentially the same result as the theory I proposed regarding the RTTP. Very interesting, though. It's always cool to see how two people can see something in several different ways!

      I’m really glad you liked it! Also, while I didn’t have that experience with Code Lyoko Evolution like you did, I did have a similar experience with another show, so I can kinda feel your pain on that.

    idk if its just the nostalgia speaking but, If they made a sequel they should definitely go back to the old art style. Of course make it hd. But keep that same feel so it doesn't feel foreign like Evolution felt. The 3d models in Evolution looked too different in my opinion.
    Story-wise they definitely could have more of a redemption for william if they pick up from s4, or i would be okay if "Season 5" was a remake of the evolution story just in the lovelable 2d and 3d art style. And of course bring back the original voice actors.

    Really good video! I love the way you went though all the different points and agree with a lot of your thoughts. I definitely preferred the books ending to Evolution and also feel that both did not really conclude the story in the best way. I liked the idea of a redemption arc of Xana but the fact that he is almost instantly just recreated takes away from everything. I've always love the character of Xana, as the name suggests lol, and appreciated how the books took a very different look at him. Especially since in the OG show they make reference to Xana once being good. I just wish his turn to evil was more explained and would love if they did a prequel, though it will never happen. Great video and analysis and I am very interested to see what fans come up with next.

  • @TheCrossSoldier

    Wow, this review is amazing! You went very in-depth on the strengths and weaknesses of both Chronicles and Evolution. You even somewhat improved my opinion of Chronicles which while still a bad series, isn't quite as terrible as I initially thought. The retcons that series made along with some other story decisions like William's greatly reduced presence, the story trying to redeem someone as evil as XANA, and Aelita never having any interaction with Hannibal Mago, the man who indirectly ruined her life, just turned me off.
    However, there's an issue both Chronicles and Evolution have that I was hoping you would mention. Both continuations bring back XANA from the dead. I've always felt that bringing XANA back after his death in season 4 was a bad idea. XANA coming back undermines Waldo's sacrifice and merely turns it from something that was going to kill XANA once and for all into merely a temporary vacation from him. Let's have death mean something and not turn into something out of a comic book where death is more like an inconvenience or being in coma.
    Let's do something different. A human villain is a great idea, and I do like the idea of the human villain being someone that Waldo previously worked with and this person having his own supercomputer A rogue member of Project Carthage who exemplifies Waldo's fears of the project being used for evil. Heck, let's spice things up and add the Men In Black back as antagonists as well. This could make for three sided war: The Lyoko Warriors being the heroes trying to save the world, the Rogue Project Carthage member who made his own supercomputer for his own evil purposes, and the Men In Black who are willing to put everyone down by either imprisonment or death to keep stability to the world.

    • @CommanderWof
      @CommanderWof  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! And you're right, I can't believe I didn't think about how XANA surviving would impact Waldo's sacrifice! The fact is, XANA is so intrinsically tied to Code Lyoko that to have a series without him feels wrong. It can be interesting like the idea you proposed, but I just can't imagine Code Lyoko without XANA. Bringing them back does lessen Waldo's sacrifice, which serves as another reason why the story probably should've just ended after season 4 like they intended.
      After everything I've thought about and learned on this nearly two year journey, I think the only way that we could get answers to the lingering plot threads and questions without lessening the story and impact of the original ending would be to do a midquel season or movie like Sophie suggested. It gives the writers the chance to wrap up the overall narrative better without changing the ending, and we get more Code Lyoko! In my opinion, this is the best case scenario for a "continuation" of Code Lyoko.

    Just realised the weirdest part about the show doing absolutely nothing with the Project Carthage lore after Season 2 - they kept teasing it in the end credits! Every single episode since S2E01. That's 71 flippin' episodes with that end credits sequence. They even spoiled Franz Hopper's real name.
    Why bring attention to it at the end of every episode if it plays no role in the story of Seasons 3&4? That's just rude.

    After re-watching Code Lyoko I realized that even the old show would have huge difficulties bringing in a new audience. First off all the streaming services I have seen but the origin story in season 3 which leaves people lost at first. Also the first season is almost all filler and the voice acting in earlier episodes was not great. These all create a huge barrier to entry for newer fans entering. If Code Lyoko is going to go mainstream it would need a remake
    eboot.
    This would be a chance to improve the animation quality both in 2D and even more so in 3D. Alot of filler episodes could be cut too. Maybe show how Jeremie got his fear of being virtualized too by having him go in in an earlier episode and get wiped out so that later on he could have to overcome his fear to save Aelita. It kinda bothered me in season one that he was suppose to be in love with her but wasn't willing to go to Lyoko to see her. Maybe give him healing powers but little to no combat ability to explain why he would only go if necessary.
    For seasons 2 - 4 maybe make some of the plots less repetitive (such as Aelita getting kidnapped and brought to Lyoko so many times, and overuse of the spectors).
    Evolution had some good ideas but were implemented poorly. The specters not trying to finish off the characters after stealing the data was strange. Maybe they were worried they could not get away with violence in live action. Laura could have made a good villain. Just change the plot to have her by the supercomputer by herself to sabotage the Back to the Past program. Then after they decide to kick her out Jeremie re-writes the program to erase her memories (maybe say he had started to write the program for William to explain why he had most of it written). But it is not perfect and she still has a few memories and remembers the numbers on the card that Tyron gave her even without having it after seeing an ad from his company and gets in touch with him and starts to work for him.
    Many of the events of Chronicles could be worked in, but the genre change would not work. It would need to be made more action-oriented. Maybe all sides find ways to use their powers in the real world. And ditch the whole XANA being redeemed since XANA's whole appeal was a faceless AI threat.

    • @CommanderWof
      @CommanderWof  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Gotta agree that Season 4 didn't do enough with the Project Carthage lore. It felt too safe writing-wise. Things like freeing William from Xana's control should've happened in the MIDDLE of the season. Waldo Schafer can still sacrifice himself but he should've returned to the real world at some point. We should've seen his Lyoko avatar (Oh! Imagine if he died but Jeremy inherited his virtual weapon and used it during the final battle). The school staff & students should've learned about Lyoko & Xana with no time reset this time.
    And I think Xana's defeat should've been tied to Project Carthage somehow. Like, that was his original goal, right? To destroy Project Carthage? They could've established that was STILL his goal, just that he was utilising the most extreme solution - erasing humanity from existence.
    Or, perhaps, they could've made Xana more and more human over time. There's some character development potential there - becoming what you despise and slowly realising it. Xana-William could've been actual Xana in William's body, not just his minion. I mean, that's what I assumed at the end of Season 3 - William had no Xana eyes. So I THOUGHT that legit was Xana himself in human form. But no, just a minion. Oh well.

    Actually, about this photo of Jeremy and Aelita in episode 26 - couldn't Jeremy scan it to the digital form and then print it again after the return to the past? As I remember the scene when he looks at the photo doesn't take place right after the return, but a bit later

      I hadn’t considered that. I suppose it’s possible, but it’s hard to tell since sometimes the virtual world is also affected by the RTTP, like how the Lyoko Warriors get sent back in time and show up in the real world even if they were on Lyoko.

    Finally got around to watching this entire video. Was it long? Yes. Was it worth it? Double yes.
    There's a million and one things I could say, but perhaps another time. I'll try to keep this one short.
    It's always interesting to hear others' in depth thoughts on not just the show, but the lesser known side stuff as well. I've spent much time building my own thoughts, but I enjoy hearing another analytical take.
    In general, my own take between Evolution and Chronicles is that Evolution is closer in spirit to the original show, while Chronicles is an attempt to deliver something the fans have always wanted but never officially got, but at the cost of being its own thing. I'm aware this differs from your own conclusions, but this is mostly just my opinion.
    I also actually really liked Chronicles the first time I discovered and read them. While I never put it as my favorite book series of all time, I do remember gushing about the books to some friends of mine at the time. It wasn't until I decided to do a reread many years later that I saw the problems with the series. I think there's something about the mystery that gets you so wrapped up in it the first time that it takes a reread to start spotting problems.
    Speaking of Chronicles, I'd like to note that the retcons go deeper than I think you realize. Not going to get into the full depths of why right now, because I'm trying to keep this short. So I'll just put the biggest one down, one that a lot of people seem to miss.
    In Chronicles, there is no RTTP.
    No, really. It's never mentioned in the recap. It's never brought up in the Mirror. Mago and Anthea never seem to unearth this function while they have the factory under their control. One of the most iconic things about the supercomputer is lowkey implied to have NEVER EXISTED.
    You could make the argument that for half the series the computer is off so it doesn't matter anyway, but the lack of RTTP has a huge impact on the implied backstory of the Warrior's journey pre-Chronicles. It's one of the bigger things about the series that drives a wedge between it and the source material. Just food for thought.

      @CommanderWof  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m really glad you liked it! And oh my word, I forgot about the Return to the Past! How did I miss that? Yeah, that’s a retcon that can’t be easily ignored. The team definitely wouldn’t want to do a RTTP since it would separate Anthea and Aelita, and I’m not sure Mago would want to since he wouldn’t remember anything. Still, it definitely should’ve been addressed. Good catch!

    Great breakdown for a show I hold dear to my heart despite it's many flaws

    If you had to, how would you incorporate evolution and chronicles into the original series? Taking place after 4 of course. While trying to incorporate the lore each series added to the original. Basically, I’m asking, how would you put a puzzle together with pieces from three different puzzles to make it look like they are the same puzzle pieces. A rewrite in simple man’s term . Lol
    I’ve been picking at this since I’ve learned about Chronicles. I have my own ideas and concepts made but I would like to hear how you would have everything unfold.

    • @CommanderWof
      @CommanderWof  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a difficult scenario to solve, lol. If I had to, I would replace Mago with Tyron, as they have an actual connection to Waldo, along with the Cortex so we can have several virtual missions to take care of. XANA would still have a much more slow and methodical return like in Chronicles, as it’s more interesting to me. I’m not sure what I would do about the memory gloves, that’s up in the air. I like the idea of XANA and Aelita having a history when she was younger, but it does conflict with her not knowing about XANA when she first went to Lyoko, so I’d probably need to scrap it. XANA’s backstory would definitely be more than just him being affected by a bug in the system!
      That’s all I’ve really got, never thought of this idea before, lol. Hopefully that was a satisfying answer!

    Here’s an idea the makers could do to help revitalize the community before doing either a movie or maybe a reboot of the series (I actually have my own idea for a Netflix type reboot, but I’ll only give it if asked so that we don’t have an essay type comment): remake the entirety of Chronicles as a comic or graphic novel series. Instead of doing a book with several preset chapters, they can flesh out the story over serval issues while also being able to give us more action with the picture aspect of comics. It’ll also give them a chance to include anything they wanted to do but could do to the reasons for their choices with Chronicles. For example, they could dedicate an entire issue to Aileta and Xana’s childhood together or a different issue to the main human villain’s rise to power (I haven’t read it so I can’t remember his name as well)! If the comic does well, they can simply transfer it over into the big screen, and if that does well they can green light a reboot of the series (again, will only give my idea if asked)! Just some food for thought, this was a good part of my childhood after all (BTW it’s also back on Netflix as well)!

    • @willnack5315
      @willnack5315 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool, I’ll give some of the differences from the original and see what people think before going into details since the changes between original and reboot can make or break reboots.
      First change, while Xana is a character, he isn’t the main villain and doesn’t even appear until midway through season 1 when he is found in a prison made by the actual villain. This villain is a second AI that was unintentionally created alongside Xana, her name is Zanis (she uses a Z instead of an X both to distance herself from her “Brother” and because at the time I thought Xana was spelled with a Z). While Xana was designed to protect both Lyoko and Humanity, Zanis was left to her own devices and ended up deciding to conquer Lyoko and destroy humanity. To that end, she captured and imprisoned Xana to make use of his ability to create monsters which she would control of the usual Xana symbol that all the monsters had in the original.
      Second difference, while Franz did still create Lyoko itself there are two key factors within this
      1: when he hid within Lyoko, he did NOT hid with his daughter, instead leaving her hidden elsewhere IRL (the Aileta that shows up later is Franz’s great-granddaughter named for her grandma)
      2: he did design the parts of Lyoko that we all see (the sectors and such) but the core of Lyoko is actually the consciousness of an alien life-form which can virtualize their bodies to undergo healing. He created the virtual world (named after said alien who was a girl BTW) to protect the healing alien both from whatever drove her to crash on earth and from the Will Smith type of MIB (look at the light here *FLASH* who are you people, where was I, oh yeah)! This only caught the attention of the MIB we know from the show and well the rest is history!
      Third, the first person to find the factory was NOT Jeremy. In fact, Yumi, Odd, Jeremy, and Aileta don’t show up until season 2 (Ulrich does but that’s partially bias on my part and sets up for the Yumi x Ulrich stuff later, please see fifth difference for details). The one who finds him is a new character who is actually smart enough to no longer attend school even though he’s the same age as Ulrich. Since he doesn’t need to attend school, he lives in the factory, uses cardboard cutouts shaped like monsters and Halloween soundtracks to keep out unwanted guests, and even built a bedroom and bathroom off of the command center that Jemery normally uses in the show. This leads to a funny first meeting between the new character and Ulrich with Ulrich entering the command center just as the new character is walking out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel (don’t worry the new character is a dude) and Ulrich is shock and slightly embarrassed at the sight of the new character in a towel (🎶Oh where is my hairbrush🎶 sorry couldn’t resist). Though this character has his own slew of problems even before Ulrich joins the team, he somehow got Zanis to fall hopelessly head over heels for the poor fool (neither he nor I have any idea how that happened). As for a name, I was considering using my own real name for him but would be willing to try a different name since I already share a name with a OG character and he serves as leader of the Lyoko Warriors as well as part time genius!
      Fourth difference, as I mentioned the normal warriors don’t show up until season 2. However, some somewhat new characters do help out later after Ulrich joins. We have a new version of William (maybe not the same name but same personality and mannerisms), another new character (also dude), and a character with Sissy’s personality but none of the power she had in the OG. She is the one Ulrich (somewhat stupidly I might add) chases after despite her only being interest in him when it was convenient for her, though she does realize she might have actual feelings for him, but only after he gets over her. This is after the event that introduces the rest of the OG warriors in season two which is also when she breaks Ulrich’s heart…along with a few bones! This last bit got her and the others (bar Ulrich) who helped her kick off the team (the leader does actually figure out how to remove them from the protection program in the Return to the Past thing and how to put people in without scanning them) and the girl remains off the team for the rest of the series though the others redeem themselves.
      The fifth difference is sweet and simple. Yumi does NOT play hard to get like she seems to in the original. She stakes her claim as soon as possible and as a result, they are able to fight together even better than in the original (almost like they’re dancing with each other). I feel like this would honestly be the biggest reason this reboot succeeds!
      On the number six spot, the sectors in Lyoko are different. First and Ice stay the same, but Mountain and desert are combined and a Volcano and Storm Sector are added. Sector 5 is renamed the Labyrinth Sector though it’s still the same as the OG and the warriors get a ship they can use as a base in Lyoko as well as a way to enjoy Netflix on a Missouri Science Center IMAX theater sized screen (considering most reboots not owned by Disney are on Netflix, I feel like the writers could get away with mentioning Netflix by name). Because the leader is a bit of a geek, he calls the ship the LS (Lyoko Ship) Enterprise (I like Start Trek, especially Next Generation).
      Number 7, in season 2 (and/or possibly season 3) while Zanis is still a threat, they also have to deal with the OG MIB and their bosses as well as the reason Lyoko fled to earth! If it does go into season 3, I could see them finally truly defeating Zanis once and for all no ifs ands or buts (except for the ones on the characters)!
      I probably could go on, but it’s already looking like a really long comment so I’ll stop here and let my fellow geeks and nerds judge my idea. All I ask is
      1: be polite about this. We’re all civilized human beings (at least we should be), there’s no reason to be rude about this!
      2: No bots!
      3: no pitchforks and torches!

    • @CommanderWof
      @CommanderWof  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, I’m gonna be honest with you, I really don’t like a lot of the ideas you put out here. New sectors sound cool (there was even a volcano sector in the games if I’m not mistaken), but most of the story ideas are either bad or seem completely unnecessary.
      What’s the point of not having the OG team in the first season? You even said that some of them have the same personalities as William and Sissi, so just make it William and Sissi! Not only would that piss off old fans of the show, you also have all of them, except for Ulrich kicked off the team, so there’s no point in having them there to begin with. And the fact that you want to name this new leader of the Lyoko Warriors after yourself leads me to believe that they’re a self-insert character for you, which is the trope of several generic fan fictions. And this character is also unnecessary because Jeremie fulfills that role already.
      Same problem with Zanis. She’s literally the same as XANA aside from the strange crush on Ulrich, that even you admitted was out of nowhere, so there’s no reason to have her in the show. Just have the villain be XANA.
      And then there’s the alien. This is just over complicating things and feels so out of place. This doesn’t sound like a reboot, it sounds like a completely different show.
      And just in case you aren’t seeing the problem here, imagine how a fan would feel to hear one of their childhood shows is getting rebooted, only for them to find out that practically none of the old cast is present for an entire season (although shows are made a season at a time, so the promotional material would only be about season 1 and would lead them to believe the old cast is never coming back). I guarantee you they would be upset and wouldn’t bother watching beyond an episode or two, if any at all. The fans are gonna want to see the true Lyoko Warriors again, not a bunch of replacements!
      I applaud you for putting your ideas out there, that takes courage, but as a reviewer, analyst, and fan of Code Lyoko, I have to be honest with you. This sounds like it would make for a terrible show.

    • @willnack5315
      @willnack5315 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the honesty, the only correction I’d like to make is that Zanis does not have a crush on Ulrich, it’s a different character entirely. As for the point on the OG characters, I would be willing to change the story to have them appear earlier maybe even at the beginning. The only reason I didn’t at first was for flexibility with stories early on and to give a reason why Yumi would want to be more honest from the get-go. The alien part I could cut, I just added it because I found it strange how someone was able to develop an entire virtual world in what appears to be the era of floppy disks and thought it might be a plausible explanation. As for the leader character Zanis has a thing for, I honestly added him for a to make it feel like I was part of the story and to give someone who could mentor the others on how to fight in Lyoko and help Jeremy with the inner workings of the Supercomputer. As for Zanis herself, this was back before I knew about Chronicles and always thought that OG Xana’s defeat was so easy that maybe he wasn’t the one the OG warriors were fighting, would be willing to cut her from this though. I can just let William be back in the show, but the only reason I didn’t just put Sissi in the show was because that character wouldn’t be the principal’s daughter so she would either have to find more creative ways to get what she wants or just get in trouble. How about this instead, have the two both be their own characters. I feel there’s nothing wrong with having more warriors than just the OG ones and we not only get the drama that came with my character idea but also all the usual drama that came with Sissi (and possibly a love interest for Odd down the road). Again, appreciate the polite honesty. I don’t think this’ll actually become a thing though because 1: I have a tendency to get distracted by other things (have Asperger‘s), 2: I have no way to get the people with the authority and/or the money to listen to my idea, and 3: the guys who worked on it are probably either dead, retired, or out of business by now 😥

    • @CommanderWof
      @CommanderWof  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@willnack5315 You admitting that this new leader was just you trying to insert yourself into the world explains a lot. The underlying problem with your idea here is that you’re making most of these changes and additions to fulfill your own personal fantasy, not because it would make for a good story or because it’s what the story needs.
      You want this mentor character in the show not because Jeremie needs a mentor, but because YOU want to be the leader and YOU want to be the most important part of the team. The mentor part doesn’t even make sense as a justification because if you’re character didn’t need a mentor to figure everything out, then neither does Jeremie.
      Zanis further proves this point. Not only did you make them female despite the fact that the AI in this show are genderless (XANA isn’t ever referred to as male as far as I can remember), but you also had them fall in love with your self-insert character. You clearly did this because you want characters in this universe to find you attractive and potentially give yourself a girlfriend later in the story, which again, is just fulfilling a personal fantasy, not writing a compelling narrative. Having a main villain falling in love with a protagonist isn’t an inherently bad idea, but your motivations behind it are very shallow.
      I hope you get the chance to bring stories to life one day, but you have a long way to go as a writer before that happens.

    So I have never stopped watching this series. It's one of my favorites, I love it to death. I spend hours of my time working on a minecraft server dedicated to recreating the world it took place in....
    But I get the feeling that the creators of the series lost passion for it because it was so far from what they wanted when they showed garage kids to their superiors. The way they've spoken about the series makes no sense at all. Why would you begin to set up the Carthage arc and then never elaborate, and then go on to say "Yeah, we're done with the series. There's nothing more here" as your entire fanbase is endlessly begging for questions to be answered?
    Garage kids was presented as a serialized show and not an episodic one. Combine that with the cited anime inspirations, and the fact that all of the original team had gradually left the show, and I think the picture emerges that this series isn't what they had imagined. It's the characters and the world they wanted, but the series' structure and their network's control barred it from being what it could have been and so they stopped caring.
    That's why we're all still here. The world and characters are what we love, and we see what could have been and love it to pieces.
    Also I prefer the chronicles, however in my eyes Evo has 1 redeeming quality: It doesn't disrespect William like the other two do. It may not offer much in terms of character development, but he's there and a part of the team.
    And the best way to describe this series: "It's amazing to think what could have been"
