    It`s extremely painful if you strike the wrong part of your opponents leg like the blade of the shin but done correctly it is a devasting kick, a bit rough around the edges looking but very effective. Great video Sensei Enkamp, Respect !

      Just turn the shin bone slightly into the kick and the foot is damaged. it's much easier to defend vs roundhouse kick over knee, but rare in karate. Not usually taught in championship preparation classes of Shinkiokushin.
      The attacker must aim very low to minimise the risk of broken bones.

      this is basically a Pressure Point strike. If you land about 5 of them in a MMA fight, one of them will probably do significant Damage. If there were no gloves, you could do more Pressure Point punches. If you're wearing shoes, you could do more Pressure Point kicks. But the MMA uniform makes many of these strikes less useful..

    i was going to start this with "do you remember back in the 70s?" but then i remembered that not everyone is old
    anyway, back in the 70s, the sport of kickboxing was gaining some traction in the USA. there were many debates on rules, but everyone seemed to agree on banning leg kicks. the bottom line is that leg kicks mess you up and nearly no one has a clue on how to deal with them

    I can attest it hurts like hell. I didn’t get kicked in the calf, but last week at class I pulled my right calf muscle. It was a sharp shooting pain that hurt beyond belief! I’m still limping from it. I imagine a full force kick to it would hurt way more than this pull

      @schinkenkeks7933 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MeinNameistCarlos ok there where some weird autocorrection in my last post.
      I did mean that these kicks dont look like you would fight for selfdefence, rather for sports. I mean yeah if its a street fight and you can stop your opponent from grappling it can be efective to hurt him there. But if i would have to defend myself i would do something different, because the leg hurts like hell, especially after time, but neither do you have the time in a serious situation nor will a hurt but not broke or distortion leg stop a aggressor.

    Osu Sensei Jesse, If you aim more to the side of the calf, you can strike the common/superficial fibular nerve, which controls dorsi flexion of the foot, if you strike it hard, you will cause their foot to lose that action and they will have a numb-ish (technical term) foot. it has happened to me and it's god-awful. Also see MIchael Chandler vs Brent Primus. It demonstrates the result of this kick superbly. Osu

    Very effective kick although also very easilly checked/blocked doing more damage to the kickers leg. Not one I'd throw much in MMA maybe occasionally to mix up strikes but if it forms a pattern or any tells, very easilly blokced. All the opponent has to do is turn thier shin to angle on to your leg, they dont even need to lift the knee so its a very quick check.

    Not so strange, it makes sense. I am accustomed to using the ball of the foot and using a cross-over footstep to get into position. I do like how you get an opponent to go round and round and then fake him out to deliver the kick. Just another tool for my tool box. I favor mixing in stuff from other arts to make my "point," pressure point. :)
    I favor using open hand when going to the opponents mug because it looks like a slap and does not LOOK so devasting especially when you push or draw back.

    My favorite form of kicking, below the belt: calves, knees, side of legs or groin, all-out. Then take off 👍👍

      Another particularly sore kick is a front kick delivered inside thigh just above the knee. My Sensei regularly uses me to demonstrate this and it's sore the first time but the second time you just want to go home 😂😂😂

    I've found this kick is very effective while wearing steel-toed boots! Much to the surprise of my opponent.

      @@KARATEbyJesse Many years ago I was a semi-truck driver and also studied Shorin-ryu at a local dojo. My fellow workers and I would go to a "working-class" tavern after work. One evening some "wanna-be bikers" came in all rowdy. I did NOT stop to remove my work-boots. A "bar fight" is NOT a tournament at a dojo. IT IS A BAR FIGHT. Three advanced upon me. Two went down with my kicks to the calves and thighs. The third got a spinning back heel kick to his groin. They left the tavern. I still had my work-boots on! ;- ) I no longer "frequent" taverns as I am an "old man" of 66-years of age. Keep up with your wonderful videos Jesse!
