    This is how to walk from the St. Thomas cruise ship port to downtown Charlotte Amalie. Charlotte Amalie is the best place to buy duty-free watches, jewelry and souvenirs in St. Thomas. It's a safe and easy walk from the cruise ship terminal in St. Thomas. Please note that all shops in Charlotte Amalie close by 6 PM during the week and sometimes at 2 PM on weekends. Avoid Charlotte Amalie after the shops close, as it could be mildly unsafe. I've explored both St. Thomas and St. John tip-to-tip and have never encountered any issues with crime though. I hope that you enjoy this video and please share this video with others. Filmed with Panasonic HC-V100M camera in 1080P HD.

    a Jeep and never once felt unsafe. We even drove up and entered the local grocery stores. The locals are so friendly, they would even politely ask of if we were looking for something when we were off the beaten path. As long as you're walking during daytime between the cruise port and Charlotte Amalie you should be 100% safe. Just avoid Charlotte Amalie after the shops close. They usually close at 6 PM during the week and sometimes at 2 PM on weekends. Shop hours bay depending upon ...

      All of the locals are not friendly. That saying good morning b.s. is part of by- gone days. I went out there saying good morning to people, and they were looking at me like I was crazy, some spoke back, and all weren't nice. No different than stateside I would say. I live how the jewelry stores serve rum and beer. So poppin.

    I sit here in Denmark viewing this fantastic video, bringing me back to july 2013, where my daughter and I spended a week on these fantastic Virgin Islands. I can tell you the steet names are danish - Hospital Gade means Hospital Street - Denmark sold the Islands in 1917 to the U.S.A. for 25 million dollars in gold- thank you for this video

    Tammy, sounds like you know what you're talking about. I spent two years flying out of St. Thomas for a small Mom & Pop operation. Had two friends of mine beat up & robbed and had my home robbed. People, do not spend your money here. Go to the French or British islands further south. The keep the riff raff under control.

    The closest and most awesome beach in walking distance is Morningstar Beach in front of the Marriott. There is a great restaurant there and a bar as well. It's the opposite direction from Charlotte Amalie and I'm not sure if there is a sidewalk in the beach direction. You might want to take a taxi to the beach due to narrow roads and traffic. Charlotte Amalie walk too and from the cruise ship port is completely safe. We toured the entire island of St. Thomas and St. John for 7 days in ...

    I walked this path soon after watching your video..., time after time, lol. I'm obsessed with St. Thomas. Only difference is, this video was pre IrMaria. Still lovely tho. I made my solo trip to St. Thomas 5/30/2019. It was wonderful.

    Never seen a 100 degree day on STT no matter what time of year you come to visit! It is pretty much 85 degrees each day and 75 degrees each night no matter what day of the year. might get a few degrees warmer in August/Sept. You are there at peak tourist season...Jan - March.

    actually already planning another trip down. It and Bermuda have trumped Hawaii as being our favorite vacation destination. It's a lot closer, less expensive and there isn't the long flight to get to and from there. Have a good day =)

    Meant to say something about St. John. This was (hopefully still is) a great place to rent a Jeep & tour the island, many overlooks to sparkling blue water & lush tropical plants. Most of the island is protected as a National Park & hopefully not over-run by now. I feel sorry for all you young people having to come up in the world now & not really seeing things in their natural state.

    Irix...thanks, I was there in '82 & '83. Flew for a Mom & Pop operation called Virgin Air. No longer in existence. Have a lot of good & some bad memories of the place. Robberies etc. You'll like the islands further south better. St. Lucia etc. not so over-run with tourists. Take it slower with the camera panning but enjoyed the old views! Thanks for the memories! Looks like the place has gotten a lot more crowded....like everywhere else. Tourists still fat & out of shape. Good God.

    how many cruise ships are in port. Locals and tourists will be all over the streets so you should never be on a street alone. There is also a very heavy flow of traffic alongside the sidewalk that you take from cruise ship port to Charlotte Amalie. It's a great and safe walk! I've been to Jamaica on two occasions and never let my guard down. I had my situational awareness at 100% in Jamaica at all times. In St. Thomas and St. John I felt safe 100% of the time ...

    videos of all of these beaches. If you're just cruising the 100% best thing to do might be to book a Morningstar Charters cruise. It was a fantastic sailing experience with a fantastic lunch grilled on the sailboat! We sailed from St. Thomas and anchored up for snorkeling/the beach on Honeymoon Beach St. John. The cruise could not have been better! Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to answer. My wife and I love the place so much that we're...

    You should see Maui now. It's pathetic how industrialized it has become in the past 20 years. Lanai is next and there is much less land there to ruin. We love St. John and hopefully big money will never spoil the national forest there. It still looks incredible and we can't wait to ride around in a Jeep there again soon!

    Just came back not long ago. We were at both ports there, More or less a taxi s needed. If you walk from Senior frogs, yes, not from the other side, lol. I did not go to town, I taken a taxi, that broken down, on the very top of the island. just before its last bend. I did not shop, on the island, as St Thomas is a great place to get things, I prefer to get, like said further down the other islands, like St martin, St kitts,. not at Puerto Rico or here. My other visit, I did not see anything. I know we all take video, but more than 50% were hard to watch, a lot of floor. I do the same thing, when I feel uncomfortable. Heck I do the same. the weather was fantastic in Dec 2014.WishedI did more walking tours.

    St. Thomas is a completely differently feel and I was never approached to buy drugs. In Jamaica I was approached almost hourly to buy drugs, even in the resort areas. I don't do drugs =) Explore St. Thomas and you'll have the time of your life! If you have more than a few hours in port, I recommend a taxi to Magen's Bay on the far side of the island. It's the best beach! Also Lindquist Beach ("Smith Bay Park") on the other side of Redhook is fantastic! Check out my videos...I have...

    Going to St. John again next and staying on St. John. Gonna do day trips to Jost, Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Is there anything else that you recommend? We've already done Peter Island and Norman Island for a week and lived both. I don't recall seeing that restaurant. Is it where Hooters is in front of the port?

    Hey Irix, I was there in the early 80s. Do you know if a Mexican restaurant is still there on the waterfront (2nd. story restaurant) called Panchitas? Loved that place. Great Mexican food! You can have St. Thomas though. Tourist overload & crime. Go South young man!

      IrixGuy's Adventure Channel-Grew up there in the '50's, returned in 1972, then 2011. I was speechless. Naturally, so much has changed; however I do have fond memories. Back then, hardly any houses on the hills, Sugar Estate wasn't built up, Race track in Sugar Estate, guts running down the mountains towards the waterfront, Harry S. Truman airport, then renamed Cyril E. King, sub base into Crown Bay, etc. Yacht Haven was known as Yacht Haven..and I was scared of mongoose(!)

    How long is the walk from the cruise port to the Charlotte Amalie shopping area? Can we bus there instead?

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      mamaj There is a shopping area right in front of the cruise ships....I don't recommend it. When you get off of the ship just follow the sidewalk towards the left in front of the waterfront to get to the main Charlotte Amalie shopping area. It's likely a 10-15 minute walk...very flat and safe. They have amazing watches, jewelry and much more there. Be sure to drop in Ajante Jewelers in Drake's Passage if you're looking for the best loose stones and/or rings and necklaces.

    The video is very choppy, makes it impossible to watch. Audio is often drowned out by ambient sounds. Next time get a camera with stabilization and if that doesn't work use software to stabilize. Better to mute the sound track of the clips so we can understand your commentary.

    Is there like a hop on hop off bus from the cruise port to the downtown shopping areas? I know you can get a taxi there but back I am afraid might be an issue. I have arthritis and all the walking on the ship and off is a issue for me especially after a couple of days of walking around the ship. I need to get me a scooter but to me that just says I give up and I’m not a quitter lol. I don’t want to slow down completely yet I’m only 55.

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest simply walking from the cruise ship port to the shops in Charlotte Amalie waterfront. That is where all of the jewelry stores are. You’d definitely need to take a taxi to Coki Beach. If you want to stay closer to the cruise ship port to maximize time, check out Morningstar Beach instead.
