    One of my favorites has always been Midgar, just the atmosphere of that place, no sunlight, everything in the slums is just thrown together trash, broken roads and sights of what this place used to look like before Shinra came, It's not really a place you want to stay in but for an introtudtion to the general ideas and concepts of Final Fantasy 7 it's perfect.

    • @TheGamingShelf
      @TheGamingShelf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Midgar is pretty diverse too in all its different sectors. Which part are you most looking forward to seeing in the Remake?

    • @MrFutago87

      @@TheGamingShelf Pretty much all of it actually. I just love the aesthetic and atmosphere. It's weird to say but some places there almost feel kinda cozy. But if I had to choose on it's all the locations we haven't seen in the original.

    In no specific order, some additions to your great list:
    Final Fantasy IX - Treno
    Breath of Fire - Bleak
    Tales of Phantasia - Japon
    Okami - Sei-an City
    Trails in the Sky - City of Ruan
    Final Fantasy IV - Feymarch

    My favorite Jrpg town would probably be Crossbell City from Zero/Ao no Kiseki. You would think that it is going to be boring to stay for 2 games in only 1 town and the Surroundings but it was well executed. At first its like any new big City but the more time you spend in Crossbell the more I started to learn about it and learned to love Crossbell City. I also just love all the districts and the NPC there because they usually change their dialog after every little story progression or activity. That's why the City also feels alive and not just NPC being there to fill the Town up. The Story also shows what problems Crossbell City is facing so every time something happens in the City or something happen to the City and it's inhabitants I start to feel and care for them and the City like it's my own.

      I hope those games get localized one day! I’ve heard awesome things about them. Any other favorites from say the Sky series?

    • @gegeji6442
      @gegeji6442 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheGamingShelf Honestly I like all of Liberl but if i have to chose it probably would be either Rolent or Zeiss. What I like about Rolent are the NPCs that live there rather that the city itself. I just like it that it's the small hometown where everyone knows the main characters since they where small. On the other side I like Zeiss for it's technological advancement in comparison to the other cities and Zeiss Central Factory. Also the theme of Zeiss is good.

    • @TheGamingShelf
      @TheGamingShelf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Kiseki games definitely have great NPCs that evolve as the game goes on. Always worth talking to them multiple times.

    fletz was an unexpected entry, and brought a whirlwind of a nostalgia trip for me. for me, a favourite of mine is Traverse Town from Kingdom hearts. it's interconnected nature makes it rare to get lost. as theres some route back to the main districts. and being the hub with some fun boss experiences (Leon, and Opposite Armour for me).

    I like the list. My all time favorite town JRPG town has to be Radiata city from Radiata Stories. Granted there weren't many towns in the game, it was fun because you could fight and recruit every single character, there was countless exploration, and with the town's politics playing through the different guildes, it just had a cool dynamic. Just my two cents. Great video!

    Great video, bringing back so many fond memories :) JRPG towns are one of the main reasons why I love this genre so much. I’m particularly happy that you mentioned Rabanastre, since FF12 tends to get forgotten very often and Ivalice is such a great place to visit.
    A have a question: the backgrounds in the FF9 footage look really sharp and clean. Is that a mod you installed or is that how the remastered version looks in general? I always had the feeling that there was a huge discrepancy between the character models and the backgrounds, that’s why I avoided the remastered FFs so far...

    • @TheGamingShelf

      Yeah they updated the character models in the remaster! And yeah Rabanastre is awesome. Love the FF12 world.

    Great video.
    Although, when it comes to Ni No Kuni II, I myself would have chosen Hydropolis, as I love the mix between Venice and Ancient Greece that the city has and how much it reminded me of the city at the beginning of Tales from Earthsea. A heavily flawed film which story--as a huge Earthsea fan--I dislike, but I still completely love thanks to its incredible art.

    • @TheGamingShelf

    Not a jrpg but martinaise disco elysium hands down is the greatest town in video games for me, from the flawless atmosphere, to NPCs that are even more well written than some main characters in other rpgs, to its incredibly detailed and rich world building and politics, to its uniquely hand crafted the visual design, its simply sublime and its just crazy that a city like this was made by an indie developer.

    I'd add a personal favorite of mine: Mac Anu from the .hack// series. Love both versions of that town but probably the one from the first 4 games a little bit more.
    Also I'm surprised any KH town made the cut. I know it's a love or hate series but it's original towns: Traverse/Twilight/Radiant Garden are really amazing.

    Chrono Trigger's Zeal will always be one of my favorites RPG locations ever. It was a really entrancing section of the game and the part that sold me it completely and turned Chrono Trigger into one of my favorite videogames ever, it took my breathe away. The concept of a wise ancient civilization, knowledgable of art, the ways of life and magic, being humble yet clearly superior to Crono and the rest of the gang, really hit the spot for me, unexpected and hard to understand. Throughout the city, with it's beautiful architecture, there are mysterious imps that speak wisdom and disappear, that leave you just... thinking. There are many things to do in Zeal, many NPCs to speak to and many things to discover, while you're exploring, it feels like time has stopped, like this is a separate place in existence, that is the impression it gave me. Cooridors of Time provided the perfect ambiance for the ancient and wise civilization, and the things that occur in this part of the game (won't spoil). It was an incredible experience that no other game could give me because of how unique it is to Chrono Trigger specifically and how well it works with it's story and themes.
    If you haven't played Chrono Trigger, I highly recommend it. I know it's regarded as one of the top RPGs, but still, if anything has stopped you from playing this game, I advice you take a chance, I'm sure this game has something for you as well. It's very special.

    I always leaned towards Grand Chokmah. It's absolutely beautiful, the emperor is laid back and chill (imagine this, an empire that is NOT evil! How many other good empires are there? Begnion was good in Path of Radiance, but more than made up for it in Radiant Dawn). It's a shame there are absolutely no towns from the Tales franchise on this list, because some of them are amazing.
    If I had to include WRPGs, though, then the Citadel takes anything else by a landslide. Mingling with all the non-Humans could be rad. Though I'm pretty sure I'll get some anti-Human slurs from stuck up jerks. I wonder if some Turians call us "Primatoids" as a derogatory term.

      I’d probably remove Harvest Moon but I’d keep Zelda on.

    Its unfair for the older games, they cannot maximize their beauty. Make it categorized, compare apples to apples!

      @@TheGamingShelf still, you are not getting my point. Though they are old and are at the top, there are still some in the mid to low, which cannot show their full beauty. They can push down other recent cities down to the list if they wanted to.

    Gotta shout out Twilight Town. The layout is significantly less linear than the other worlds in the game, most maps having three or four exit points to other maps so learning to instinctively navigate feels more satisfying and more like an actual town. The prologue with Roxas makes you feel like there’s a history to the characters, and both the music and the perpetual sunset give off the end of a Sunday afternoon vibe perfectly (knowing the day is about to end and simultaneously wanting to get stuff done whilst doing nothing at all).

    I preferred Transverse Town from Kingdom Hearts and Palm Brinks from Dark Cloud 2: Those are THE RPG worlds I would want to visit... your list is has too many final fantasy games: how is that fair? The only one I'd likely visit is Fletz... the others don't satisfy my curiosity enough.
