    Matthias Hombauer -- my hero!
About eighteen months ago, I was struggling with digital rock photography, which I believed was due to using a low-cost fixed-lens "bridge" digital camera. When I came across his "5 Must-Have Camera Settings" PDF, I saw that the photos which illustrated it had apertures ranging from 1.2 to 2.8. My camera's maximum aperture was 3.4!
Fortunately, I discovered (and was able to work a trade-in deal for) a fixed-lens digital camera with a 2.8 maximum aperture, 5-step exposure compensation, and incremental ISO. When a camera that I'd ordered by mail arrived, I mailed it right back because its maximum aperture was 3.0 with only a two-step exposure compensation. Thanks to Matthias Hombauer, I've been rocking and photographing happily ever after!

As easy that sounds about ISO and jpeg format, lower ISO settings are the best as they don't contain much noise and shooting in jpeg isn't the best option either - RAW format allows you more options with editing

RAW + jpeg is the best option. It provides flexibility in the editing process. If the jpeg is good, no further editing is needed. If not, the RAW file can be adjusted to provide the correct exposure, white balance, and other aspects.

That's not the way I would go. My settings are:
Manual mode with Auto ISO! Aperture wide open and the only setting I adjust is the shutter speed based on the amount of movement of the band members (e.g. sitting on a chair vs. jumping on the stage or headbanging)
files: only RAW. Jpeg are kinda useless, take longer to save and take more space and are very limited in editing
metering mode: spot (following point of focus) or middle/center (otherwise, the very bright stage and effect lights will darken the faces of your subject)
White Balance: auto or flash (yes, even without a flash)
