I would have done more; your music just hits so hard, and so perfect, but this was the max amount I could do. Thank you from my everything. To me this track instills the image of a wounded person continuing to advance and persevere despite all the hardships, pain, and otherwise that might have trialed them, regardless of how much of a struggle it may be. Originally I was going to drop this on Once In a Lullaby because that was the track that got me to finally open the floodgates to really mourn the loss of my grandfather (we were tight AF), my best buddy, I SOBBED on the kitchen floor after dropping right after coalescence lead into it. (Thanks, so much, it gave so much sway to the concept of finality . This is beautiful. Music is one helluva Band-Aid. I'm glad these wrappings are offering such reconciliation. Chris is a damn genius.
I love little sprinkle of "You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele" just before the big drop at 2:59 . If this is the music for Sundered Grove, then it's such a cool little tie-in to the game's lore. Hell, I'm probably deaf to many more instances of that in your other songs and this may have just been the first time I've taken notice!
I think you're the first to catch this! Technically Ukulele borrows its theme from Double Fucking Rainbow from the first game, but I'm assuming you haven't played it. Nevertheless, great ears!
@@AstronautDown I've played a ton of the first one, for sure! I just specified Ukulele because it's Mithrix's theme, which was relevant to the lore part of the comment.
You mind explaining how it ties into the lore? Sorry if this is blunt just really Into this games story
The log entry for Sundered Grove is supposedly from the perspective of Mithrix, and the implication is that he and Providence were directly responsible for creating the area. Since Ukulele is Mithrix's boss theme, I thought it was cool that it's referenced in the music for this stage

Thanks for this absolute banger of a track. Perfect fuel for finals week
The Doors' influence is really strong on this one. If I heard it live outside somewhere I would have thought someone was really playing The Doors.
The time limit on the album might have been a blessing in disguise as it shifted the whole album's composition into progressive spectrum. As Chris himself says "I like to think of the album as one continuous piece". That gives off strong progressive and stoner rock/metal which doesn't just go well with the game's theme but mechanics as well.
I really hope we see a solo production album from Chris very soon.
Thanks! I hope so too... :)
Hey man, can you recommend me any Doors songs that sound particularly similar to this? I'm not very familiar with them but this is my favorite track in the game, I'd love to hear more like this!
Honestly phenomenal comparison. Both Chris and Jim Morrison are utter genius's in their own respective rights. I think a reason the sound can feel so similar is because both Jim and Chris are exceptionally talented at depicting and capturing a very subtle theme of ominosity and foreboding.
@@MrMister681 Particularly similar to this one are probably "When the Music's Over", "Riders on the Storm", "Five to One", "Shaman's Blues", "Ghost Song"...
But it depends on what you consider similar. sound palette, the melody, the mood, the progression? I recommend going though all of their albums, there aren't too many anyways, unfortunately. You will find a bit of all in every other song probably has a bit of all of those.
Idk if you get this but I love the way you get your titles, they really add something that can’t be described
Thank you, I appreciate that!
And here I thought "Once in a Lullaby" would be my favorite from this DLC. But this one is just unreal, no words to describe how much I love it. You are a goddamn magician, cheers to you, your skill and to your dedication!
I think the title is really what sells this song for me. Not only is it a banger, but it's a message; you've come this far into the planet. You haven't found a single survivor to rescue. They all might as well be dead, because you only made it here thanks to your armaments and items. It's no longer about finding the missing crew, it's about getting the hell off that planet.
God I love this song so much. Another banger.
It was super awesome to see Sundered Grove finally get its own banger, and holy shit does this deliver
Oh thank goodness, I heard it after beating the voidling and thought that would be the only place it played
At this point I'm convinced this guy cannot physically not write an absolute banger of a soundtrack. Absolute fucking legend.

One thing I really love about most of your tracks is the marked evolution of the song as it goes on. They work really well with the game to help you keep track of time
true! In every stage there's that part of the song that instantly reminds me I spent too long goofing around, and I dont even have to be paying attention to the music
This one beats The Rain Formerly Known as Purple in my eyes.
So damn good.
You're so talented, Chris!
sounds like you got vision issues then
Same. That song was the greatest for me, but this one is an absolute masterpiece. I've covered the former on my channel, and will definitely be covering this new one now too.
Imo The Rain Formerly Known as Purple get a bit annoying after a while, and the guitar doesnt hit as hard as this track.
The intro gives me such heavy Spore vibes, and I'm so about it. And then OHHHHHH HOLY MOLY!!!! I love a good spiritual successor, and by far, my favorite song in the original ROR was moisture deficit.
I think bringing back some of the old soundtrack elements was the absolute right call. The Void update seems to revisit some of the locations from what I can tell, and most certainly has more of that rich, alien purple feeling that the old game instilled. From not only a narrative sense, but a stylistic one, this is golden...err, purple.
Did Hopoo tell you to bring back so many older elements, or was that just your own informed decision? I must know!
Intro makin me feel like I'm in the tribal outfitter ngl
I came down to the comments to mention the spore vibes it gave me, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who got this. I thought I was insane
"spore"
considering the stage this plays on, very fitting
God I miss Spore
I bet its possible to make half the creatures in this game in spore, might try that lol

That guitar loop is god tier
The vibe this gives.
It's as if the survivor has resigned to the fact that everything wants them dead, including himself. But yet, an electric desire inside keeps him going.
They'd rather strum an ukulele from the shipment of the contact light, awaiting rescue from someone, somewhere but...
For now until they die, they play the music electric.
Chris, buddy, man, what you do with the guitar makes me bite my lip and sends chills down my spine. I can't count how many times I put this song on repeat.

2:59 is really good
This Track sounds like what traveling slowly sounds like then seeing all the beauty around in the world. A long the journey you get lost and sidetracked but still getting closer to your destination you encounter friends and family finally and are releaved to finally be home. I love this Chris, Thank you for making such good music and being the reason I played ROR2 in the first place (I heard your music before I played the games).
New favorite track in the whole series. The whole part from 2:57 onwards is just absolutely beautiful. It’s like a gourmet meal for your ears.
Man... thank you for delivering this heavenly soundtrack for us mere mortals.
Hey Chris, I am a sole believer that half the enjoyment of a game comes from their soundtrack. I don't think I would enjoy games like botw, persona and of course risk of rain 2 as much if not for their excellent ost. Thanks for now being a permanent addition to my playlist on my drive to work (and my never-ending quest to reach eclipse 8 lol)

If this track truly is for sundered grove, then I think the title perfectly refers to the player, as they might as well be dead than be there.
Though atleast they’ll die to an absolute banger of a song. God damn, amazing as always Chris
So happy to hear ror1's theme again, and it took me quite a long time to realize this is a remix of moisture defecit, which was probably my favorite song from the original. The great guitar solos make this probably my favorite song from both tracks
Fun fact: At 2:33, there's a sprinkle of Double Rainbow in the background before the big drop.
I swear these songs tell a story if you listen close enough
The music and the motifs they use are lore in themselves, giving unspoken connections to other areas and characters
I can vividly imagine scenes while listening to this song, especially when the mithrix theme creeps in out of nowhere before the music goes hard
I'm not a music expert, but I can only describe the drop at 3:00 as orgasmic. While the guitar is the main dish, I just love the stuff going on the background, the way it goes from this ancient sounding chimes and lute to the synth rock and drums going mental.
My favorite new song in the OST, by far.

While I wean off some brain medication, I've been staying sane by going for morning runs followed by cold showers. My ritual for the cold showers is to put this song on, and slowly make it colder through the first section. When the guitar solo hits, I turn the dial all the way so that it's freezing cold. Standing under the icy water and listening to this (and doing air guitar) reminds me of my own vitality and gives me determination to face the day. I think I'll always remember this song as something that helped me :)

What a song, honestly I think we can call that a masterpiece (even more so in game).
Also I always stay until the end of the song (4:16) to activate the teleporter, which lead to me dying an horrible death 1 out of 3 times ahah.

This song is amazing, It literally made me tear up.
Out of all of the games I’ve played, your music on ROR1 and ROR2 have made the biggest impact, and by far my most favorite games for the songs. Keep asking my friends why they mute the music on the games, don’t understand why because YOUR STUFF IS SO GOOD MAN. KEEP IT UP!
Definitely my favorite song in SOTV, i can't wait to learn how to play this on guitar :)))
When I first played this game I criticized the music, saying I only liked "the rain formerly known as purple", but upon revisiting I find myself enjoying much more of this games soundtrack, like this one. the desert one, and the one that plays in the secret area under the blue portal place. Some amazing work was done
I'm not sure exactly how to say it, but this track is the _brightest_ in the OST now (mostly because of that guitar at the end). Most of the other tracks are pretty dark, but They Might As Well Be Dead feels like a ray of light piercing the dark sky. I imagine it's the key of the song that make it feel this way?
Good work
The fact that you still get this in Sundered Grove even if you dont have the DLC is a true blessing
