We girls (the older ones) were raised to be subservient. To be anything else was not an option. I was 16 when I first married and let me tell you, when you're raised to only be a housewife (doormat) Your self-worth is taken away very quickly. Beatings, etc. etc. I would have loved to have been the way you describe but was not. My spirit was broken from all the beatings because I was disobedient or willful. No education. I'm not telling you this for pity. I want all those young women out there to reach for your dreams. Get an education. Do not let anyone keep you beat down. Longer story short I finally broke away from that and got my GED and went to college. I was 30 by then.
Women grow up being teached they must be quiet and obedient and selfless and always put others needs first... It's hard to brake free. But the truth is that people only respects whom respect itself.
