Hey Mike, just wanted to let you know that as a long time Jazzmaster player, your playing in these demos has been one of the biggest influences on my playing since I discovered you a year ago. You just have this wonderful and exciting approach to the instrument. All of my offsets also now play significantly better because of your very thorough setup videos! The best channel for offset players hands down, thanks for what you do.
I took my Jag to Mike and Mike's guitar bar after a local shop had butchered the setup multiple times. They nailed it and I can't play my other guitars now, they just don't play as tight. I'm so grateful that this knowledge is being taught and circulated. Thank you Mike! More setup videos, or just videos in general plz XD
I would also say, after 20 years of playing. I have never dared to take The neck of my guitar. Or Pull wires out and put everything back together. But since Ive Discoverd your Channel. Ive now become pretty good at doing good setups for my own offsets, switching pups etc. . So Thank you Sir!
I always thought the Mavericks and Custom were such cool sort of bizarre looking guitars. It was nice to see you give this one plenty of love and t l c and get it properly set up once more. Very cool and fun video to watch and great playing as well!
The string alignment through the Bigsby on the stock photo of the Parallel Universe Maverick is now permanent seared in my mind! Love the content, Mike.
So groovy! Honestly, I think I can say it was during lots of binging of the 60s Cycle & Hum videos that I have seen any of Puisheen... but he has a style all his own. And he has great stage presence, and he is comfortable on camera. It comes across...
Hey Mike! Super cool video as per the usual - longtime admirer here over in London, UK. I've actually got an Alternate Reality Maverick Dorado in Firemist Gold (I'd always wanted a Firemist Gold Fender), which I acquired for a very modest £450 + a trade in because most shops here in England haven't sold them. I love it so much, the only mod I did was add in an old wiggled in USA bigsby spring I had lying around which improved the Bigsby by far, which for a cheaper import Bigsby stays in tune like an absolute dream. I've read varying reviews based on the unusual choice of components for the reissue but guess i just got really lucky with mine! I have been pleasantly surprised by this model, it always demands compliments from people when I am out performing. Who ever thought a Maverick would be such a good session guitar?! Keep up the cool content! :)
Hello Mike! Your videos are always a treat. What are the chords you "always play" in your demos (at 32:47 in this video). I really like that progression, and I haven't been able to figure it out yet.
Yes. I was the "teacher"..😄 did not have a red shirt... Pleasure to make your acquaintance as well! I really do love your content and have learned while being entertained! 👍
Hey Mike, awesome video as usual! Are you planning to make a video series on Jazzmaster wiring mods? I'm going for Rothstein STB Super Mod wiring but sadly I haven't seen any videos on that interesting wiring with G&L PTB circuit. Would love to see you demo it! Much love from Turkey!
Is this all played through the venerable HX Stomp? I think I need to ditch my tubes for home use... and thanks for playing through the SSBS Fuck, now that's a pedal I'd love to find (although I have the Mini)
A proper Custom/Maverick reissue would be a day one buy for me. About a decade ago, I had a chance to buy a '69--in sunburst with the "Custom" decal rather than "Maverick"--for around $2300. I passed on it. I regret that decision, especially seeing what they fetch now.
Hi Mike I have a pseudo offset 1967 Hagstrom III that needs your help. It mostly needs a new nut but also a neck finish and overall cleanup if possible.
For my style of playing, I find that having a wound G string on a vibrato equipped guitar tends to stop the G constantly going out of tune. This is for both Bigsby and Fender vibratos.
Love these videos and how you work on them. I was wondering if you have any experience with the Maestro Vibrola? I don’t see any videos explaining how to set them up or even how to care for them and it would be a big help if you could bless us with some info on these.
I do! It's my second-favorite vibrato, and in fact, it's the vibrato that turned me on to vibratos in the first place. I really wish I had my old 355 to show it off, but I plan to cover that vibrato extensively someday soon. Amazing little vibratos
@@Puisheen Awesome! I just picked up a SG with a vibrola and I really am lost on how to work on them. I didn’t know that you were affiliated with Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar in Seattle. May have to drop it off with them sometime soon. Looking forward to your video.
Do any of you guys know, if AVRI bridge bushings would fit The bridge post holes in a MIM jazzmaster. Its The Stock bridge, which i like. But The bushings seems thicker, so i doesnt rock when using The tremolo. Which i dont like.
@@Puisheen Thanks. Didnt see your reply. But i had to redrill. It is a lacquer Series, so it had The Old School bridge. But The Thimbels were thicker, and therefor The bridge didnt rock. Holds up tuning Way better now!
That fuzz riff you were playing at the beginning and end of the video is driving me nuts with how familiar it sounds.. is that yours? If not what song is that?
Mike, who makes an Electric XII-style pickup with pole pieces that are spaced for an F-spaced six string? (Btw I enjoyed the shit out of this video. 👍👍)
Novak could probably stuff the guts of a XII pickup under a Jazzmaster cover with the desired spacing if you wanted the sound and were willing to compromise on the look
Guitar players not knowing what actually affects what on their instruments? I never! But for real after working at a shop for years im convinced you could sell glitter and get people to buy "tone dust" and have them rave about the difference they hear. Playing guitar does not make you an expert on how they work.
Sorry but I hate this guitar. The Maverick is the perfect example of what not to do with a perfectly good Fender Electric XII. Maybe I should take a band saw to my Electric XII just to make it look as ugly as possible.

This is wildly kind of you to say. I'm grateful for this lovely comment, and so, so happy that I could be a small part of your musical journey!
Most relatable comment ever.

Nikki I am so happy to hear this. Congrats on digging in!
Once again another great video from my old pal Mike! I love these goofy looking guitars and really want one with a JM vibrato.
These things are so cool. I wish I could find and afford one. Then subsequently feel comfortable gigging with it.
Each of these are separate hurdles for me as well
May this be the push Fender needs to do a proper reissue! Awesome video.

That Pickup selection riff forever!!!
This and the XII are on my fender bucket list

Great work & playing, as usual! Keep the OTBs coming please!
I have a late 60s Fender pedal steel with that same sunburst finish. The black to red to yellow is pretty dramatic.
That Jaguar is just one of the coolest guitars of all time.
Hearing the pickup demos makes me wonder why Fender hasn't reissued these with the XII pickups. The sounds this guitar makes can fit almost any genre.
Great video Mike! Mav Demos 3 & 4 were incredible!
Gosh that sounded amazing g all the way through. Fantastic playing and a beautiful tone. ❤❤❤
One of my favorite Fender oddballs! Good to see another great “on the bench” my friend ❤️
Thank you!!!
I screamed at the surprise mysterious stranger theme at the end.
It's got to be one of my favorite riffs ever! Sounds perfect with the OOP position
@@Puisheen Oh, for sure. I wonder if there's any way to find out what they used to record the original.

love everything about that guitar from the nut on down... i just dont think i will ever warm up to that headstock shape though.
Great episode, Mike. Really enjoyed the M&M videos too!
Love the sound from this guitar! Thank you for posting this video! Love the ST:TNG shirt! I was in S5E11. Love your videos!

Yes. I was the "teacher"..😄 did not have a red shirt... Pleasure to make your acquaintance as well! I really do love your content and have learned while being entertained! 👍
I learnt a bunch from you Mike. Thanks so much!
The look on your face at 38:48 just screamed "How can I convince work to let me keep this guitar?..."
I really did want to. Exceptional guitar!
Nice, ignites the XII GAS, but thus far no detonation.
Gotta get me some of that abrasive cord my man!
Those Novak pickups sound amazing!
God i love this thing. Superb video mike!

That headstock is bonkers!
Thanks for the mustang vibrato tips.
I bought a G&L Espada for the oddball split pickups and the onboard boost. Great guitar, but the JM/Jag vibrato would make it perfect IMO.
11:44 Yes! It is what I like and want

Greetings Mike. Last year I started using Tri-flow for some lubrication chores on metal parts. Super thin and light, and long lasting. Cheers mate.
I use that stuff too but if I want something that stays put, I reach for something thicker usually
@@Puisheen Good man.
Love this Mike ,Thanks
Great shirt.
I've never used abrasive cord, but I definitely have played some abrasive chords! D'OH!!
Hi Mike I have a pseudo offset 1967 Hagstrom III that needs your help. It mostly needs a new nut but also a neck finish and overall cleanup if possible.
Sunny Saturday morning. Coffee. Mike video. Perfect. 😊
Is there any place that offers pickguards cut for XII pickups for non-XII guitars?
Such an amazing looking and sounding guitar. I would love a white one with a matching headstock…not sure if they came in that color though.
Being an old guy who was around in the '60s, I don't recall ever seeing the Maverick but I do remember seeing the Swinger. Go figure.
Might be a bit stereotypical, being a Canadian, but I cannot get enough of that hockey stick headstock
Great! Please, how much can you push the vibrato bar up?
Hey Mike, do you have more videos of you playing the jag with the xii pickups? I’m trying to hear the difference between them, jag and JM pickups
For my style of playing, I find that having a wound G string on a vibrato equipped guitar tends to stop the G constantly going out of tune. This is for both Bigsby and Fender vibratos.
That just comes down to setup, really. I don't find a wound G more stable than a plain
or.... just have a properly cut nut and it won't go out of tune.
Did Fender also plug the tuner holes and glue veneers to the headstock?
On many, yes. This one appears to be one of the bespoke necks made specifically for the model -- no veneer!
@@Puisheen bespoke, or not drilled for 12 string yet?
mike wax chapstick for your glasses is a thing! keeps them up :)

would be cool to see a mustang bridge intonation
Nice.
Looking for a A width Strat neck 60-65. Love me them skinny nuts!
So close to Pete Townsend and John Entwhistle riffing on “Summertime Blues” on “Live At Leeds.” Mike, check it out, you’ll like it!
Maveritastic!
Hey Mike, could I possibly ask what’s the abrasive cord that you use please👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼🎸
Mitchell's!
Cool, I’ll check that out, never really thought about using abrasive chord until watching your channel 👌🏼 top tips
What kind of steel wool do you use on the fretboard?
0000 steel wool for cleaning boards and polishing frets!
"Can you see this grooveless wonder?"
C'mon man you don't need to call me out like that
That fuzz riff you were playing at the beginning and end of the video is driving me nuts with how familiar it sounds.. is that yours? If not what song is that?
That's just something I made up on the spot. Thanks!
I love the limp dick headstock. Wish there was an aftermarket company that offered them (Warmoth, Allparts, Musikraft, etc)
These guitars are rare as hens teeth. They should reissue these in sunburst, black, olympic white and lpb.
I always thought the headstock looks like a sock.
this is one of those guitars that makes me hate being left handed.
Mike, who makes an Electric XII-style pickup with pole pieces that are spaced for an F-spaced six string?
