    Before Empire and Rome 2 this was our franchise. We were happy, content, we had expansions and quality games. But Sega has destroyed those times. They put us to sleep with golden promises of quality, when we wake up though, our expectations were gone. THEY take the new fans and turn them into little money machines. So we must fight...

    First time l heard this l was blown away. This intro explains who you are fighting, and why you are fighting. This little paragraph is powerful causing me to hate the Roman enemies l would soon be facing. Giving me pleasure to see their forces routed and cities crushed before the might of our brothers in arms. Always pushing ourselves forward to make that wound in the Romans deeper. To raise our banners across their lands brought me joy. Our fathers and forefathers cheering in my dreams as the stories of our victory dance into their ears....... A little into it there heh. Great intro.

    This is one of the many reasons why I prefer this Rome over the sequel. These barbarians had dignity. They were gruff, yet tempered. In my opinion I felt these men were an absolute pleasure to listen to as opposed to the sequel where I really didn't like the voice acting. Too grating, too hammy.

    This very intro inspired me as I start playing barbarian factions and first saw this intro to re-think my coordinate of believes. How this is not sounds like what happens now??? I felt I had held this believes altogether, I just needed to systemise it. I believe we are descendants of "barbarians" - Scandinavians, people of Westernmost Europe (France, Germans, Benelux countries), Russians too, Spaniards and Latin-american countries; and we are those who oppose, more and more now, to descendants of "Romans" - US of A, NATO, EU... People of iron, walls and lies, of drilling and goosestepping you into what to think, what to wear, what to do. And we opposed it - people of love, compassion, spirituality, people who venerate Old Ways. and now we might face time of wolves and swords, when they say pour values are "outdated", "medieval" etc.

    Before my father's father was born, our gaming was on the treasured classics of legacy. The Atari, the Nintendo, the Sega, the PlayStation, the XBox...these were our good places. Our classic nerd masters lived here. The superior graphics of our rich imaginations, they watched over us. We are happy. We forage, we have sex, we have good social relationships and well-rounded lives. But sometimes we must fight.
    The TW gamers disturb the console gods, they burn them in flame war on the Internets. They take away what is ours: girlfriends, accident children, and console game market share. And the TW gamers talk about how they will help us and better entertain us. They put us to sleep with golden high frame rate promises. When we wake, all what we had is gone, STOLEN! They take our sons and turn them into little neckbearded virgins. BAH!
    So we fight to keep what is ours, what MUST STAY OURS. There can be no peace, no PEACE with the oh-so-glorious 'PC Master Race', virgin men of flashy graphics, processing power, and BAD TROLLING. There can be only FLAME WAR!!!

      Everyone has transgressed everyone, no oppression is justified, and certainly not taking out your delusions of supposed “superiority” over those you deem “barbaric”.
      The Romans weren’t these heroic geniuses that “civilized the savages”, they were lucky, had advanced technology and systems of governance, and what did they do with it? The same thing every other human-infested civilization did: conquered for the sake of their greed
      Even if a conqueror has good intentions (like uniting a split up war torn hellpit), their conquest can easily become just another oppressive mess.
      Roman worship needs to end already, they weren’t supervillains but they weren’t heroes either, and assuming them to be either label is illogical at best.

    • @lisboah
      @lisboah 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 I am not saying the Romans were victims. They were quite the opressors, and their eventual downfall was well-deserved.
      What my previous post meant is that the Romans didn't start attacking and opressing the "barbarian" tribes out of a whim. They had to endure, in the first centuries, plenty of raids from "barbarian tribes" that ravaged their lands, and this led to the Romans seeing them as nothing but barbarian and bloodthirsty tribes. And, sadly, several tribes had to suffer for what a minority did.
      Then again, that is pretty common to happen in human history. One individual does something bad, and his or her people suffer for centuries due to it.
