Hey everyone, thanks for all the messages and patience! It took a while to get a new video out, haha. I was sick, and then got sicker. I'm still taking it easy and recovering, it'll take a while to get my energy back, and get back into the groove. Anyway, hope everyone is doing good, take care and thanks for watching.

I don't know about truck campers. Seems like they'd all have a very high center of gravity. Huge wind resistance. The "pop up" types are basically fancy tents. Seems like it would be harder to modify them to your liking than a van. Another option would be to reconsider things entirely. Buy a bit of property somewhere and make it your home base. Build a tiny off grid cabin. Simultaneously, buy a right proper off road vehicle, maybe a jeep, + a small off-road tear drop trailer. Hop in the jeep + off road tear drop trailer and head out there for a week or so. Then come back, recoup at your home base. If you need to remain 100% mobile a van still seems like the best bet.

I like your van. You made some good points about a van vs. fancy vans or campers. I have a 3/4 ton Chevy Pickup and I carry a 2600 overhead camper. It is very comfortable (Fridge, toilet, indoor and outdoor shower and in/out gas cookers/ heater/ac/memory foam queen bed, etc.) and drives well, except it is top heavy. High winds and side-sloped tracks are scary. Also going down long steep hills takes frequent stops to let the brakes cool. Every mode of camping/travel has it's ups and downs. I love your videos and your life style. Take care of yourself and Rocco, and many Blessings to all.

Your idea for a camper shell is great, for all the reasons you covered. Makes a ton of sense to have a truck that can 4 wheel a lot better than a van- particularly for you as your use is about as extreme as it gets. So glad to hear from you! We were getting worried. You’re part of our extended family now.

Your van build is by far my favorite of all the ones I've seen. And I agree with another comment which said they'd like to see you get a piece of land somewhere for a home base. And I love Rocko to pieces.

Great tour. I have the same philosophy of use as you...I came to the nomad lifestyle after extensive long distance backpacking and bike packing experience. I have been in a 4x4 pickup and Four Wheel Camper pop-up rig for almost six years now...I love it! Only thing I would change is getting a 3/4 ton truck instead of a half ton for the more rugged suspension, axles, etc. LOVE my Four Wheel Camper Hawk shell model.

I've used vans, SUVs and trucks with a full heightcamper but looking at the 4 Wheel and Alu-Camper now. Wayyy lighter is perfect for off road camping

@Foresty Forest - I lived in a semi truck from 2008 until 2019 then moved into my enclosed cargo carrier in April 2019. It isn't lonely at all. I also have everything I need here. My 'hobby' is the truck and camper. Yesterday I fixed 2 solar panels and today they are going up on the roof onto the aluminum profile frame I built. It is neverendingly fun to think up, design and build stuff. Always learning new skills and how to handle new materials. I have held off on a cheap Chinese diesel heater. I don't trust them. The clicking of the pump would drive me crazy and the Espar and Webastos are excruciatingly expensive. Used one in my trucking days. A total rip off. A simple Mr Buddy does me fine on the occasions I need heat plus the electric heater that cost me $14 when I am on shore power.
I agree with you. This does not have to be complicated. I did my build out on the fly in 2019 and have been redoing / improving things ever since. I would sooner spend my money on this than on a mortgage that is for sure. You buy a camper and a truck and one and done. The rest is up to you. Imagination is a wonderful thing. Back out to the solar now.

I believe your van build is the best, by far👌

Exactly, the super luxury van life is simply frivolous with resources.

I think your van is perfect and it seems you have all the heating and battery power worked out
A pickup with a camper… would depend on the size of the camper
You’re also cut off from the truck
I always imagine someone stealing your truck while you’re in the back…
Enjoy your van, you worked hard to modify it!
    Take care 🇨🇦❤️🍁🍂

Had a pickup with a camper in the bed they are handy but very tippy. And that was an older one , today the pickups are so tall it makes it really tippy on those old logging roads . Plus the added height and frontal area would really limit where you could go. With trees and brush in mind. Hope your feeling better..

Hi Foresty, just an idea for another video. I would love to see how to route plan your summits, picking trails, what technology you use, web sites, etc.
