@lonnieodom8036 those 2 teams matched up great, McGinnis and Rodgers brown vs debussure and Bradley , Mel Daniel's vs Willis Reed and Jerry lucas....Monroe and Frazier vs Lewis and Keller and mount...
Growing up I remember watching exactly 2 ABA games on TV: an ABA All Star Game from, I believe, Louisville (don't remember the year) and this game here. My memory watching this game (I was 11) was that the crowd was really going bonkers the whole game. Somehow this video doesn't capture the crowd noise that I remember.
Yes. Correct on both announcers. CBS had a limited contract with the ABA in those days. 1973 was the last year the NBA was on ABC before moving to CBS.
The Pacers were champion contenders in the ABA and they won some rings. The closest Indy had to winning an NBA ring was in the '00 Finals, but alas the Lakers prevailed.
Is that Summerall doing color? I know Criqui is doing the play by play but that sounds just like Sumerall too. That blew me away. We forget all the legends start somewhere.
If McGinnis had not just relied on his physical skills alone, he would have been a better player. *If McGinnis had been willing to engage in practice (ask Larry Brown) he would have been a better player- had a longer peak. *If McGinnis had played defense he would have been a better player. *If McGinnis had not forgot how to make free throws the last 3 years of his career (he never was good) he would have been a better player (this all goes back to not wanting to practice) *If McGinnis had not been the all-time leader in turnovers, he would have been a better player. That being said, George McGinnis remained- to his dying day- an especially nice guy who for the first 3 or 4 years of his career had jaw-dropping physical skills and put up some astounding offensive numbers in the ABA. Didn't really translate over to the NBA for all the reasons listed above.
The Pacers could never seem win the big one at home. I love watching ABA games. The coliseum was a great place to watch a game. That was always my birthday gift.
@@thewayitwas6794 I'm sorry, I wasn't being sarcastic...just dumb I suppose! lol So it's floating around out there somewhere? The only other thing I've stumbled upon is the one from the nba where they have their logo pasted all over and keep cutting in with nba promos.
Supposedly. CBS had the contract for a very limited number of games. Lack of strong TV contract held the ABA back and contributed heavily to its demise.
@@fairfaxcat1312 You are correct. Lack of a tv contract and a general lack of public interest in pro basketball at the time finished them. After the merger, with players like McGinnis and the Doctor joining in one big league led to the explosion in popularity ofthe 80’s
Thanks for posting. The more ABA action on TH-cam, the better.
The 73 NBA KNICKS VS ABA PACERS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE
How about the ‘74 Nets vs the ‘74 Celtics?
The Pacers would have won.

😮 Better talent in ABA than NBA in 70’s!
I loved the ABA
RIP: Daniels, Brown, Beatty.
Don Chiqui at the mike. Had one of the best broadcast voices: strong and bass.
Yes and Pat Summeral on color commentary..
Criqui
As I little kid,I was amazed at all the vibrant colors of the a.b.a.

Wow, so cool to see these guys again. Darnell Hillman, dude had HOPS! Dr, Dunkenstein. On that goaltending call on the block he had, he got up!
we need more complete ABA games
I noticed the players here never squabbled about the calls like they do today!
Is that Don criqui and pat summerall on the mic
Don Criqui for sure, and it does sound like Pat Summerall?

Didn’t know Don Criqui worked for CBS. When I think of him, I associate him with NBC.
I'm a baby boomer so I can inform you that Don worked at CBS Sports from 1967 to 1979, then from 1988 to 2012.
@@rendragmedia I think it was 1998 to 2012. Don Criqui was still doing the NFL on NBC in the 90’s.
Thanks for this. Growing up in a non-ABA city, the league was only something I read about in Sports Illustrated.
pacers won 3 aba title strong team
Enjoyed listening to this game with my dad. Good times.
what a front line for the Pacers!
GO GO GOVAN! I don't care what anybody says, lf McGinnis had better shot selection, he would have been a better player.

NBA should go back to that 3-point line. It's way to easy as-is.
Isn't the NBA line the same distance as the ABA line? I think they're both 23' 9" unless I'm mistaken!
same 3 point line
FRED Lewis? I'm glad to see this footage. Where did you get this?
Never knew how small Freddie Lewis was until I've looked at these videos, he was small!!!

2:36 Pat Summerall is talking about Secretariat.
Heavy Gratitude
Boone played a good game.
There is a much better version of this game available with complete from beginning to end with commercials. You should try to find it.
OR you could just share the account name of where it is?
@@MarklovesJoan not everything is available on TH-cam.

Did CBS televised the ABA Games ?

Yes....televised on Saturdays
I think at its peak- the CBS contract called for 6 games in a season (regular season and playoffs) broadcast on Saturdays.
WAY TOO MANY ADS! I can't watch this.
Govan shot nothing but bricks!!!...lol
