I once went on a boat tour in Alaska and they told us great stuff about puffins. The best is that in the area we were they all lived in cliffs. They would jump off of the cliffs and soar down to the ocean and then eat their body weight in fish. They would eat so much fish that they would be to heavy to fly and then they had to float until they digested enough to fly home. This made them prime targets for sharks but by gum, if they were gonna die they were gonna die with full stomachs LOL!
Will totally be participating in this KAL! Have never done color changes but after looking at the instructions for mosaic knitting I know I can do this, despite being pretty beginner when it comes to knitting (tbh I’ve done crochet color changes and this reminds me a little of that, having the color travel up the row). Cast on yesterday and am on row 38 so moving right along! Thank you Barbara!
Hello! I have just recently found your channel and have been binge watching! Thank you for taking the time to post these! I have found them extremely informative and FUN! You're a hoot! I have been trying some of your tips and tricks & am having a blast doing so while listening / watching your videos! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Barbara for your video. I intend to go through all those links and have a good look. Pity I have to go to work today! 😆 Never done a KAL before but love the look of that shawl, so I’m tempted to give it a go.
Hi Barbara! It's a beautiful shawl. I'm just learning how to knit. I learned how to crochet many years ago. I have always wanted to knit but kept getting frustrated. I am sticking with it this time. 😊
Hi Barbara! As if things weren't crazy enough, I'm now in the middle of Firefornia (no danger, though, thankfully, but can't do anything outside!). So, I've gotten to binge your vids which had stacked up as I had other life-stuff. Funny to hear you mention your company name in this vid - because I FINALLY saw the word "tump" in a book! "Before We Were Yours" by Lisa Wingate is set partially in 1930's South - and the author uses the word twice. I was so excited when I read it because inner me was jumping up and down "I know that word! I know that word!". Anyway, if you hadn't come across that, I thought you should know!
That is absolutely awesome to hear! Yes, tump(ed) is a very regional Southern colloquialism but it is a real word! I hadn't come across it, than you so much for sharing.
Ok so, this is exciting! (Insert fangirling here 😂) I own both of your books, and have made items from both. Now there is a knit along!? 😮🙋♀️🙋♀️🧶🧶🧶 YAYNESS!!! I can't wait! I'll be sure to answer that survey and check out your newly updated website!
Great job Barbara! I have never done a knit along but want to try it on Knit Companion. I am going to purchase both tonight! Exciting!!! Many thanks again. -SasZKnitter
LOL! I just bought your Courant pattern and I think I have decided on the colours. Ok, Ok you've twisted my arm. I'll buy more yarn and do this pattern too.
That's a beautiful shawl, sadly I just started a shawl for my daughter as she returns to her job in a local school. They may have the AC running all year. Either way here in Mass she will need it...my first large project in decades. Thanks for sharing, though.
Confundo is still one of my favorite patterns ❤ Maybe it's time to make a third 😂 I love the look of the yellow version. Added a 'curiosity question'... I'm sure you can answer it 🙂
I’ve been to your A Good Yarn in Sarasota! I love that store. I live in Kentucky. Sadly, there’s no LYS near me. I love the idea of KAL. I also love Yowza! You are awesome!
Here is the link to the form where you can ask a question of me! tinyurl.com/yy5ngyjf If you are looking for Confundo Kits you can find them from A Good Yarn at: www.agoodyarnsarasota.com/confundo-yowza-mini-kit.html
Definitely joining; my first KAL ever & a pattern I had in my knitting queue, yay! Unfortunately, no way to get Miss Babs here in UK and it is too late to get it shipped from US. Any tips for yarn substitution?
Yowza is a plied, DK weight, 100% merino superwash yarn. The minis have 200 yards in 80 grams. It gives medium stitch definition (not too fuzzy, not to tight) and the superwash gives it good drape when blocked. You can substitute another DK weight yarn that comes close to these attributes. Something in a wool/silk or wool/cashmere/nylon blend would work fine if you aren't into superwash.
I'm hoping that I could make Confundo with Malabrigo Rios, as I have lots of that in my stash that are one-of-a-kind skeins/colorways& could easily choose 3 that'd go together. Do you think I'd need to go up a needle size? I wouldn't mind it coming out bigger... Thanks for this KAL!
Actually, you might be able to get away with using the 9 the pattern calls for. Going up to a 10 might e overkill. This is something that might need a swatch (in the colorwork). I just went and checked a shawl pattern I did in Rios and I used an 8 for that but it was solid color. I typically go up to compensate for the inevitable compaction that comes with slipped stitches, so 9 might work. The yardage should be similar.
Barbara, I just loved KAL project shawl!!! I signed up for the zoom sessions...really excited! Getting ready to download the pattern now thru your store. Looking for the yarn suggested Miss Babs Yowza Mini Trios DK weight. Put the name in the search bar of the store site and it brought nothing up. Where do I find this ? Any suggestions? Thank you
I wouldn't recommend doing the pattern in straight fingering weight unless you are ready to do a lot of weighing of yarn. You could hold fingering double to get up to DK weight - but you'll need a lot of yarn!
I definitely want to join the KAL, I also downloaded knitCompanion many months ago but have never used it I have the basic version. Do I have to upgrade for this KAL?
You don't have to have KnitCompanion at all - that was actually a completely separate bit from the Knit-a-long, sorry for the confusion. But you can definitely use it if you like!
WatchBarbaraKnit I don’t have to have a knitCompanion but I would like to use it for the first time with this Cal I wanted to use just it just for the experience
Hi I would like to join this KAL but I live in Queensland Australia and the winters here are short and not that cold, so I don't think I would ever get the chance to wear a shawl knitted with DK yarn :-(( Is there any way this could be knitted with fingering yarn?
The pattern has tips on modifying the pattern should you want to ... but it’s gonna take some work on your side. And you need to consider that it will significantly change the visual appearance of the shawl. Since we are only slipping stitches to create the colorwork, the colorwork will be much finer and not have as graphic of an impact.
I don't know that there are specific kits up but you can definitely either call the store or make a virtual shopping appointment and they would be happy to help. If you go to their main page and scroll to the bottom you will see that the appointment is where you do class reservations. You can schedule dedicated time via Zoom with Susan or one of the other amazing ladies who work there and they will shop with you virtually. If the sign-up system is confusing, then you can always just call on the phone and they will get you hooked up. I have forwarded your question on and if they can put kits up they will. I'm not sure if they can list the Miss Babs on the website though. There are different agreements with different vendors regarding online sales.
I'm afraid that the times are already set and there is something else happening right after the KAL. You can still participate via the FB group! Hopefully we'll have something else that is at a good time for you.
YAAAAAY 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 A KAL! WOOHOO okay sweetie let's get to it!! Oh wait 🥰 I have to wait... okay I'm patient, I can wait.. 😐😘😏... I got this. I'm good 🙏🏼👍🏼 YAAAAAY!! Thank you Barbara fun fun fun!! 🥰😍😘!! #YARNMakesMeHappy🧶 #GPWarrior💚🥄
Puffins are the best....love watching them... fly, swim, and dive and they look cool with their colored beaks!

You are a really lovely person, I utterly enjoy your enthusiasm 😍😊😉
Thank you so much 😀
So excited!! I'd love to be in the zoom along. And the KAL. But I'm so bad at choosing colors!
If you're in the FB group we can totally help out with that (either Watch Barbara Knit or A Good Yarn)

Don't get too far or you'll be done before the kick-off Zoom! LOL!
Thanks so much for the info about Knit Companion. It sounds so handy for travel!
Hope it works out for you!
Love your shirt. The colors are great on you.
Thank you so much! It's actually a dress and one of my favorites.

Hi Barbara! It's a beautiful shawl. I'm just learning how to knit. I learned how to crochet many years ago. I have always wanted to knit but kept getting frustrated. I am sticking with it this time. 😊
You can do it! And a KAL can be a very supportive way to stick to it!

Awesome! Thank you!

Oh this one is so much more relaxing than Courant! But I am so excited to see your Courant and this one!
Was just on your website, it's awesome!!!!
Thank you so much! It has been a lot of work.
I love Knit Companion!
That is great to hear!
Thanks Barbara!
My pleasure.

That is so awesome to hear. Making one of my patterns more than once is possibly the highest compliment.

I just went into the store and picked out some color combinations. They should go up on the A Good Yarn website tonight. I'd search for Confundo.
I have a lot of fingering weight. Would it be possible to use the clocloudbornhand washable fingerin weight? Thanks so much.

We haven't really pinned that down. I'll work on that.
Has A Good Yarn Sarasota put together kits for Confundo? If so, where can we see them?

Well, you can get started now by picking out yarn and making a swatch!
The problem with Knit Companion is that it only works with Apple devices Android not so well.
The website seems to say it runs on both platforms, it's unfortunate that it doesn't run equally on both.
