    Assassin's Creed: Revelations is a 2011 action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is the fourth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and a direct sequel to 2010's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, concluding the "Ezio Trilogy". The game was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows in November and December 2011. A remastered version of Revelations, along with Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood, was released as part of The Ezio Collection for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 15, 2016, and for the Nintendo Switch on February 17, 2022.
    The plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events and follows the millennia-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight to preserve peace and free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The framing story is set in the 21st century and features the series protagonist Desmond Miles who, after falling into a coma during the events of Brotherhood, must relive the memories of his ancestors through the Animus device in order to awaken and find a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. The main story spans the years 1511-1512, and follows an aged Ezio Auditore da Firenze (the protagonist of the trilogy) as he travels to Constantinople to find five keys needed to unlock a vault built three centuries ago by Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad (the protagonist of the first game in the series). While searching for the keys, Ezio becomes caught in a feud between the Ottomans and the Byzantines, and discovers that the Templars are also attempting to unlock Altaïr's vault and its secrets.
    Revelations features an open world and is played from the third-person perspective, with a primary focus on using Ezio's and Altaïr's combat, climbing and stealth abilities to eliminate targets and explore the environment. Ezio, who the player controls throughout the majority of the game, can freely explore Constantinople and complete side missions unrelated to the main storyline. Altaïr is playable in a smaller capacity, as he is featured only in a series of flashback missions set in Masyaf from 1189 to 1257. In the modern-day, the player controls Desmond in a series of first-person platforming levels within the Animus. The multiplayer mode returns from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and has been expanded with additional maps, characters, and game modes.
    The game was released with multiple editions, some of which featured exclusive limited-time content. Most notably, several editions included an animated short film, titled Assassin's Creed: Embers, which serves as a proper conclusion to Ezio's story, and which was later re-released as a free download on the PlayStation Store. Downloadable content (DLC) released for the game includes new maps and characters for the multiplayer mode, and a story expansion titled The Lost Archive, which adds more platforming levels to the modern-day.
    Upon release, Revelations received largely positive reviews, with praise directed at the world design and narrative, although some reviewers noted that the gameplay of the series was getting overly familiar and the newly introduced features felt lacking in comparison to the ones introduced in previous titles. The game was a large commercial success, outperforming the sales of its predecessors. It was followed in October 2012 by Assassin's Creed III, which introduces a new storyline and protagonist in the New World during the 18th century, while also concluding Desmond's story arc

      Definitely red pilled the f*** out of me as a child ngl. Finished this year for the first time and I think it's as good as Brotherhood, honestly.
    Seeing the transformation of Ezio, from hot headed, womanizer teenager in AC2 to the wise, calm and collected (but still a bit of a womanizer) master assassin in Revelations is amazing, and it's very rare to see this kind of character evolution in videogames.

  • @phononanon
    @phononanon ปีที่แล้ว +149

    I feel like the romance with Sofia Sartor is super underrated as an example of well-written mature romance. Ezio is a gentleman, he doesn’t need to wife her and is in no hurry, he just lets things develop while ensuring she has every opportunity to decide she’s not into him. Just immaculate patience and maturity. Such a good role model for how men should approach relationships irl.

    • @CopperWaspp
      @CopperWaspp ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I'm glad to scroll and see a comment mentioning the romance, because it was one of my favourite parts of the game. It's important for healthy relationships to be seen in media and video games are no exception.
      Of course Sofia's design is beautiful, but Ezio connects with her on an intellectual level and her company is wholeheartedly enjoyable. And they both help each other achieve their personal goals, they both meaningfully contribute to one another. While the target demographic for these games was likely not women at the time, when I played as a young girl I wanted to be Sofia and have her knowledge, and to be treated the way Ezio treats her. It's realistic, healthy, and the writing makes it feel so genuine. I'll never forget it.

    The fact that Ezio starts to make connections to the "time travel", both with the isu discs and his knowledge of Desmonds existence, makes you realize he had grown from a stillborn scare to a teenage member of nobility into a veteran Mentor who can put together the Isu plan and Animus's purpose through context clues alone. During the Renaissance. Like you can finally appreciate how much more clever and measured and mature Ezio is after years of being him. You've guided him through the hardest parts of his life and he finally makes the decision to go find peace.

    To be honest I cry every time I play AC Revelations and arrive at the end in the libraby. That scene hits me really hard and as I grow older it has even more meaning about life itself.
    Whatching a life unfolding before our eyes - from baby to a grown wise man - even an old man as Altair's end timeline. Whitnessing Ezio lighting the torches in the library, then seeing Altair blowing them in his timeline - knowing he won't return... The whole story goes in full circle and that is what life is. In Altair's timeline they brought in even the father and son theme too. It is really a full story of life.

    Totally agree that Revelations is an underappreciated game in the series. It's a fantastic ending on the Ezio trilogy.
    One of the changes I like about it is that Ezio actually moves a bit slower than in the previous two games. Given that games, especially AC games, have a power fantasy aspect to them, I wouldn't hold it against the devs to keep Ezio moving at the same pace. But I think it shows their dedication to the character and story. Old man Ezio should be moving slower than the young Ezio in AC2. The animation and sound design of Ezio in Revelations sometimes feels like he's older and more susceptible to aches and pains. Sure, he's way nimbler than I'll ever be at that age but to be slower than his younger self is such good attention to detail.

    This was by far the best entry in the Ezio trilogy. The writing, character depth, gameplay and the colour palettes.
    Even though brotherhood seemed to have a crisper look graphically, revelations was filled with amazing illustrations. The colour palettes were visually pleasing with all of these middle eastern hues. I was constantly swapping dyes.

I looked at basically every educational design video I could find (GMTK, GDC, Thomas Brush and others) and decided to take a a 1 year game design course, most people there hadn't created or been involved in designing things before, so I was the outlier if you are curious.
      I specialize in Game, Level & Narrative Design (though I do do some Graphic Design, Animation and UI\UX)
      If your looking into becoming a game developer, i'd definitely recommend one of these courses, try and find one that touches as broad a range of subjects as possible so you could figure out what's your preferred role and enrich yourself on it.

    AC Revelations is actually my 3rd favorite AC game (after Black Flag and Brotherhood). It might be because of how the story perfectly concludes Ezio's and Altair's story in a satisfying way (Ezio meeting Altair was one the BEST moments I've ever seen any video game. So many feelings we got in one single scene). Also maybe because I'm still learning A LOT about Turkey's history from all the way to the Bronze Age and beyond to the modern day country of Turkey. Istanbul (Constantinople) is such a beautiful and interesting city to learn about. So much history there which the game captures pretty well (the "Istanbul OST" is one my favorite OST's in any other AC game I've played). Plus those Jannisaries with their cool moustaches, muskets and long hats were always my favorite enemies to mess around and defeat (despite then being OP as hell).
    And WHO could forget the breathtaking opening scene of Revelations with Ezio's monologue while fighting the Templars at Masiyaf Castle with Ezio's ghost looking over him? That was what Assassins Creed was about! Hopefully AC Mirage brings that feeling back.

    the title music and the scene where ezio talks to desmond, i still have them and listen/watch them from time to time, and the scene with altair's last words, that was cool too. he sounded so wise and mature compared to his youth in ac1, made me so happy to revisit and finally finish altair's arch as well

    This was my first AC game. I remember watching TetraNinja doing a Walkthrough on his channel (actually how I found his channel and what got me into AC as a whole) and as soon as he finished it, I went to Gamestop and bought for myself. I remember seeing the E3 footage and not knowing what I was watching but I liked what I saw. And having Soul Calibur 5 have Ezio being a guest character in the game. I do not regret my time with the game. It sold me on the franchise and not even knowing about AC2, Brotherhood or AC1. It had that much of an impact on me to make me want to replay the previous games for the series at the time. It's a great way to end Ezio's story, I feel.

    i can't ever forget how fond I am of Revelations, this was the best gaming era of my life. I thought it was going to be another Ezio adventure (which I didn't mind back then, and wouldn't mind now) but it turned out to be a bittersweet end of journey to both him AND Altair. I'll gladly forget Assassin's Creed 1 & 2 just to replay it all and experience everything all over again.

    I loved every moment of Revelations, it was the best for me from the Ezio Trilogy. The evolution, how Ezio is now wise as being old and his journey were the best thing for me. The combat system was good but i'm not a big fan of the combat system that was from the first AC to 3, the parkour and the new options with the hook blade were fantastic. The city was well built, and felt very alive with some of the best panoramas of the series. A underrated masterpiece.

    Recently got through my run of the Ezio trilogy before making my way through the rest. And I just gotta say, these 3 in particular are timeless jewels. Classic. Even with all the bug and some frustrating mechanics, Ezio’s story was just absolutely fantastic. And being there with him through his youth all the way to his end is something you don’t get to experience a lot with our characters. The ending definitely ties a beautiful bow around this part of the series. And I don’t think the future/past story has ever been 100% synched since these games.

    Platinumed Ezio trilogy recently few days ago, and have to say the Ezio trilogy gave me the same feel in recent times which it gave me back in the day when the three games launched seperately and that feeling is purely nostalgic, exciting and other emotions also which are inexpressible for me because there are few things in this world which will make you feel really good but you can't express it properly through words.
    It feels really really good that i got to play the games and relive the life of Ezio Auditore da Firenze again.
    The best storyline and the best protagonist in the AC franchise and also one of the best stories and protagonist in gaming history.

  • @giants2k8
    @giants2k8 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    After playing the Ezio Collection and replaying the games, I was taken aback by just how spectacular Revelations was. I think in terms of the setting and the character growth, it is the best in the series. Constantinople is such an extraordinary city and to explore it is brilliant. The city is so vibrant and full of culture and flavor. As somebody who loves Byzantine history, it was amazing.
    I’m replaying all of the games in chronological order, so on to AC 3: Remastered next. Damn I love this series, I got so much nostalgia from playing Ezio’s story again. He is unquestionably the best protagonist in the AC series. Then again, he had 3 games dedicated to telling his story and showing his growth and development over his life. We literally got to see his birth and then played him from 17-65, which is such an ambitious project that they totally nailed imo.
    I don’t care what anyone says; Constantinople is the best city in the entire series. I also loved the continuation and conclusion of Altair’s story. This game did so much right. It is shocking how underrated this was. But people at the time were just used to the Ezio character and wanted a new protagonist. Be careful what you wish for folks.
    I hope they return to the old style of the games, instead of the oversized maps and demigod abilities. Actually having to use stealth was so refreshing coming from the newer RPG focused AC games. I can’t believe how many hours of fun I got out of this collection for a bargain on sale.
    People talk about Black Flag and AC2 as being the best, but damn I think this is the best one. Although the story obviously wasn’t quite the same. I felt like this was the perfect epilogue to the first 3 games.

    Of the "Desmond" 5 (first 5 games) Revelations is my 2nd favorite after Brotherhood, followed by AC 2, AC 3 and AC 1, respectively. The reasonni enjoy Revelations so much despite its awkward mechanics at times is *_precisely_* because of the writing and the beautiful way it brings together Desmond, Altair and Ezio's stories. This game literally gives the other 4 games their purpose. We learn whats at stake, we learn whats been going on, loose ends are tied off and (mostly) explained regarding the 1st three protagonists. Plus, Ezio gets to retire and have time with his love.

    I remember starting to play AC Revelations after not playing an assassins creed game in awhile. Quickly I was hooked again by the great character Ezio, the new parkour possibilities, bombs, the great setting and story, the ties to AC1. I was doing everything, collecting everything because this was a game I was going to 100%. I played so much and had so much fun. Then one day I booted up my game and the save file was corrupted. I tried the backup save but it was corrupted too. That sucked hard. So I restarted the game because I really wanted to know what happened to Altair, what happened with Ezio and Sofia and the story as a whole. But I couldn't do it. I could go back to the beginning and redo everything. That took the fun out of the game and sadly I haven't played the game ever since.
