How do we train our model? Is there a tutorial?

Will Unity have a cloud training solution for ML/Sentis? It would be nice to have something more seamless than the current options that require a ridiculous process of configuration and troubleshooting that seems to change every few months.

I'm not convinced an ML model meant to simulate Boids is any better than making your own modified version of Boids.
They said they went with an ML model because Boids lack "flexibility and efficiency to include interactive gameplay". What does that even mean?
Of course you wouldn't just drop an algorithm in and hope it does everything for you. You take it and change it to fit your needs.
It just seems like such an overkill solution, almost like they did it just to flex it on stage.

I agree. A properly modified boids algorithm would use less compute, data, everything.. the only advantage of ML boids may be less engineering work. The robo taxi example on the other hand is a valid use case in my opinion. I was glad to see that in there and I think future video games will include similar systems. :D

That was only one example for the sake of demonstration, most devs have some understanding of boids and will easily comprehend the visual along with the dudes explanation. Some complex custom AI would require alot more explanation and wouldn't be immeditely recognizable. It would be difficult to display and explain a complicated solution that would benfit more from ML.

@@kodaxmax Yeah, but there is kind of a problem with it being an example. People could think "so this is an efficient way to do boids, see, they have optimized it here to run in a vr game!" and I don't think it is. Maybe with more boid constraints/rules it would become more and more viable.. As for better examples, see the robot taxi, no one has ever done something like that with non-ML methods.

@@thFaust Again it's just an example, using a mechanic/system that was a proof of concept. Like are you expecting them to pull up benchmarking software and race a team of devs against an ML agent to see who creates the better boids? I don't really get what you want out of this. It's just to vissually illustrate how it works and potential use cases. Making boids more efficent obviously isn't the primary or only thing it can do, thats juts silly.
i can only find self driving car aticles with that query. But vehicle navigation has been done manually since some of the earliest games. GTA and sim city being an obvious example.

They went ai boids because they thought it would be more computationally efficient to run a ai evaluation every frame.
This is laughable and its really dishonest. Imagine being a new game developer and thinking that this is a good idea.
      Poison.

4 minutes in and I'm sold. No clue what this will be used for in your average game, maybe speech generation or npc behavioujr, but whatever it will be - if this thing is easily usable like other build in modules people will find uses (and probably lots) for it. Esp. in small, more experimental indie games. Go Unity!

If you need AI to handle your ~30 boid flock, you got bigger problems on your hands homie.

Was about to say just tgat. Compute shader for 30 boids = lol, esp when Jo Ante was showing tens of thousands boids using burst 5 years ago.

Unity has visual scripting. Not as well developed as UE but still there.
Might want to research this stuff as it is pretty easy to find...
