Hello Richard,I bought this system off eBay nearly 2 years ago. I kept my cheap Aiwa record player from an old system from the 90s. Sounded great, but I got a Technics SL b21 which was mint and with an at 85p cartridge. Then I bought almost new teac 250 speakers and they really do bring out the bass. I use the cd player but not the cassette . Great little system.
Hi Richard, I really enjoyed the video! It's upset me a little though - I saw one of these hi-fi sets in a local charity shop a few weeks ago for a very cheap price, but talked myself out of buying it - I wish I'd gone for it now, of course! Very nice musical numbers too - I have a couple of copies of that wonderful Ivor Novello LP in my collection - bought a few years ago when you played some tracks from it! The Jack Payne 78 was excellent too. It's always a treat to watch your videos, and to listen to your musical selections. I watched this video a couple of weeks ago and intended to comment then, but, for some reason I got side tracked by something else and forget! I was called 'Scatterbrain' at school, for good reason! Warm regards, Neil.
LOL Neil Thank you for your comments and the Technics is now installed in my lounge - taken over from the Sony and Panasonic reciever - now in the Workshop Ive rested the JVC - he's a old boy from the 70s More fun on its way... Warm regards Richard
I bought that technics hifi back in 1998 or 1999 after moving into my new apartment !! I paid £479 from curry’s in lewisham then a couple of years later bought the technics SA EH790 which I still have 😃👍
Here's a bit of extra info on this system. These were manufactured between 2001 and 2002 at the height of the bookshelf stereo craze. The 70W figure written on the unit is the total power consumption. The bi-wired speakers are actually bi-amplified, with a separate amplifier channel for each frequency. This minimises power loss in the crossover and I believe the crossover in this system is actually done digitally.
Thanks for the video. Nice easy viewing. Got a similar 350 but the reverse on the cassette goes "wonky" seems to be in the direction when the right side capstan pinch roller as looking down in the cassette is engaged that causes the problem 🤔i presume it's a belt but not sure how to change it/them. Thank you
Hi Harry You could wire the base units (LTs) to your audio and see how they run the tweeters might not like the extra power as no crossover is present. Warm regards Richard
Hi Richard, Great video. I have one of these but sub woofer output doesn’t appear to be activated. Have you got any thoughts on how to activate it? Thanks Kev
Hi Kev Could be a connection issue - check the circuits for a break in the solder joins - both speakers or one? ~Could try a different set of speakers to check output - simple things first Warm regards Richard
Enjoyed that, I am looking at the Technics on Ebay and Google brought up your video, all the best, Sparky
Hi Sparky
Fantastic and it’s a great set
Warm regards
Richard
Class system , love the blue lights , very robust and expensive looking compared to today's rubbish

Hi
Yes the belts go after so many years - sadly.

Richard
Thank you for the reply. Are there any video tutorials to help me change them? Happy new year
I have two older Technics SB-HD501 speakers. how could I connect them to m-audio interface / Behringer mixer? thanks!
