    Wait, didn't Erso actually include all the necessary data with the original communication, but it got blown up with Jedha and that's where Jyn had to start trying to convince the Alliance that she was telling the truth?

    • @Jack655321
      @Jack655321 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He wasn't bad, but he didn't look fully human either. It was jarring when he was fully emoting. It would be a good effect for androids or literally anything else, but not for humans.

      Tom Miller people seem to have widely different views of this. i think Tarkin looks just horrible, every scene with him took me right out of the movie, i would have much preferred for him to not be included at all rather then this.
      it may be good cgi, but it still looks bad. nothing like an actual human.

    • @fullyautomagi1427
      @fullyautomagi1427 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I completely bought Tarkin when he first appeared, as it went on I noticed the CG a little bit more but it in no way bothered me or took away from him at all. I genuinely appreciate the effort that it took to include Tarkin when they very easily could have (and I fully expected them to) just ignore Tarkin entirely or find interesting ways to cut around him or other characters. When he came on screen I remember covering my mouth in disbelief. Incredible animation.

    I'm 95 percent sure no one in the empire knew about the flaw. they just knew the rebels wanted the plans. gale urso died before he was able to tell crennic what happened or about the flaw. I think jyn tells him right before he gets shot at the end, so it doesn't matter. the empire has no idea.

    real glad everyone else quickly brushed passed tim's gay comment about baze & chirrut. i get tired of ppl insinuating, whether straight, gay or w/e, that just because two characters in a story share a strong, loving bond, it must be romantic.

And this was so irritating hearing Colin... Colin complaining as always about total nonsense... I mean shut up jeez... I never picked up on any gay vibes between the blind dude and the machine-gunner. I kind of assumed they were really close old friends who used to serve at the temple but now they are without purpose so one of them became cynical while the other put all his energy into hope and the force. I'm not exactly sure what gave you the impression they are gay... if it's the fact that he insults the blind dude a lot and seems to know a lot about him that's probably because they are like two old war buddies who no longer have an army and even though they often get on each others nerves they are the only true family they have left. If it's the fact that the blind guy wanders off and then says he has the other dude to protect him I think that's more of a reference to him being blind and that even though the other dude doesn't want to admit it he views him as a friend and isn't as impartial as he tries to make himself out to be.

    This is the film that emphasizes the Wars in Star Wars. You feel the stakes and the brutal arena that is a war zone in a way you've never felt in a Star Wars film before. Vader at the end accentuated that feeling because he's a guy who is effortlessly powerful. When he walks into a room, your life is in his hands, and you can only live if he allows it. However, the film does have its problems. I think the characters, while satisfactory, weren't that interesting for the most part. I liked them well enough (especially K-2SO and the blind warrior), but I never felt that they had a strong team dynamic. Jyn Erso felt very bland to me, and the only reason I liked her was because she was played by Felicity Jones. I thought Cassian had a nice little character arc, and he spoke the most about the desperation of the rebellion and how they aren't just the ideal good guys that they feel like on the original trilogy. All in all, the film was good, and shows that the series is on a good track. I'm with Colin on the Han/Lando film though. I have no interest in that whatsoever. It will probably be good, but the basic premise does not excite me. I want something new with new characters that adds to this universe. Don't care to see young Han Solo and young Lando Calrissian.

    I think the crawl wasn’t needed, but I did highly miss the fades instead of hard cuts. I also didn’t think they needed title cards for planets.

    • @lucasoheyze4597

      Without the planet names it would have been hard to follow in the first half.

    • @DylanOB
      @DylanOB 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most of the planets were talked about before hand. I think relying on title card allows you to be sloppy with editing because you dont have to rely on good editing to let people know where they are.

    • @cocacola150dr
      @cocacola150dr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The title cards helped me follow the film, it made it easier to know the locations of where they were. For instance, when Tarkin gives the order to destroy "Scariff", I knew beforehand because of the title cards that he was talking about the planet/moon that the rebels were on. Without the title cards, I may not have immediately recognized the significance of what was going on there.

  • @TheDepressedGamer1
    @TheDepressedGamer1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Am I the only one who wasn't that impressed? Totally respect the guys' views, but it's obvious this movie was cut heavily to focus more on the action, and character development suffers as a result. "Little sister"? come on, that was not earned AT ALL, they hardly even interacted!
    The Force Awakens relied a lot on nostalgia, but it was an excellent film by itself. It had characters, humor, and great pacing. Rogue one has only nostalgia, and some great action scenes.
    Also CG Tarkin and Leia were awful and distracting, we're just not there yet with the technology to make it believable.
    Sorry if this comes out as negative and/or trollish, just my honest opinion.

    I agree partly with Colin about Vader, where that middle scene in the movie was not necessary, but seeing him at the end was freaking awesome and it's okay it was there. Only hearing Tarkin say Vader will take care of the Fleet, and then you see that scene where he turns his lightsaber on and thats the first time you see Vader would've been amazing.

    He was trying to give them the infomation but the recording was cutoff when Jeddah was destroyed. The father did not have the secret plans on hand as they were kept offsite in a much higher security facility where they keep all their sensitive intel. Also They explained that the plans for the death star are so large that it can't be transmitted by standard discreet means. hence the large drive and requirement of the dish to send it.

    One thing I disagree with about the "Why didn't he just tell them about the exhaust port." The exhaust port isn't the weakness he was describing. He said a pressurized explosion in one particular part of the reactor would start a chain reaction. He made it so subtle that he couldn't tell them how to do it, just that it was possible. That's why they had to get the plans. They needed to find a way to exploit the flaw he built in. And remember, the exhaust port was impossibly small to hit with a proton torpedo. Not the most easily exploitable flaw because it would not have been possible without Luke's use of the Force. Since he would have assumed that no one could hit it, he wouldn't have mentioned it.

    The thing that everybody seems to fly right past is that this movie completely retcons the very nature of the Death Star's fatal weakness.
    The auxiliary thermal exhaust port is silly, sure. But it's a two meter wide hole, shielded against blasters, almost impossible to dunk a torpedo into, on a massive space station covered in enough turbolasers to vaporize an entire fleet from stand-off range, and all it does it hook up into the station's main exhaust.
    The REAL trap is that Galen deliberately engineered the _Death Star's reactor_ such that a single pressurized explosive could destabilize the whole thing and the station would blow itself to bits.
    And *nobody noticed*. Not even the audience.

So maybe he did add valuable information and the tape got destroyed before it could get to that. I can't remember exactly, I do remember however the hologram getting fuzzy and all that. And assuming his message did get cut off... it would also make sense to add where and how to get the actual plans and add it at the beginning of the message as a valuable back-up. I saw it earlier today and I'm still feeling the chills from the last 2 minutes of the movie, man the movie's intensity scales up like an exponent curve and never goes down. What I want to add is, this movie gives me great hope that disney knows what they're doing. They are able to take star wars in a new direction and go down a new path of maturity and brutality in a post game of thrones world where the audience are expecting you to bring in some horrors-of-war aspect and not feel sorry for killing off your favorite characters for the grand scheme of the plot. The audience of these films are the same people who played with lightsabers as a kid, grew up on disney animated movies, plays pokemon games and jrpgs, but also appreciates a thinking man's story when given one because we have grown up into adults, and that's what I'm optimistic about.
    Now I can't wait for what Rian Johnson will bring next year and continue to elevate the movies.

    I'd love to hear other people's opinion on this . . . especially the Kinda Funny crew . . . but what if Tarkin was an ever evolving effect, meaning with each subsequent release of Rogue One, they improve it?? I think the technology isn't quite there yet, so it is quite jarring, but it's almost there.
    Example, in 5 years they release an 8K blu ray special edition or something along those lines, and they've further improved Tarkin, and by the next release a few years later he's indistinguishable from the real thing? The technology will improve so why keep the technology stuck in 2016 with the uncanny valley, when by 2026 we'll have the tech to do it perfectly? It's not something that needs to be preserved. . . it's something that can be improved upon imo.

    Dont forget that the Vader/Dracula scene plays along with horror-movie-like music. That was just brilliant! After all, for the poor rebel soldiers, it's like they're being attacked by some sort of supernatural monster (in fact, that's what Vader is, as Jedi powers are supernatural and fuck midiclorians to Hell). It's like in Phanton Menace when Qui-Gon is cutting the blast doors of the Trade Federation ship with his lightsaber and the Trade Federator guy is like "The're still coming through!" which looked to me like a nod to Forbidden Planet, as though normal people would see guys like Jedi, with their superpowers, as some sort of monsters (again, which in fact they are).

These plans were kept off-site, and Erso didn't have copies because he only developed the laser.
