@@OmegaTyrant regal sword is meh for the fact that PoR has x2 effectiveness, if it wasn't for the horse bug Roy rapier does more damage to cavalry and Armors. In term of enemies weaks to those swords the same damage against lances, 1 more against no lances or axes enemies and 2 more against enemies with axes. The thing is that in FE6 those enemies tends to have lances and magic and bow mounted classes thanks to the bug cavalry weapons doesn't do x3 damage.
After hearing all your allusions to fire emblem and Mekkah I've been excited to see you cover the series more. Great premium edit, keep up the good stuff. I'm sure Mekkah will see your stuff one of these days.
My favorite memory of this game was in chapter 21 fielding Niime at the back in order to protect Merlinus from reinforcements. She was dodge tanking every enemy, to the point that she capped to level 20 even though the enemies only gives like 5 exp, and eventually even broke her tome so she's literally there to only dodge tank.
This is a great vid, and I love that you’re introducing new people to this series! I actually largely agree with the important placements here, but I do have a few things I think are worth noting: - I think Barthe specifically is way too high. Barthe’s bulk, even physically, is actually quite unimpressive. He’s getting doubled by everything, and while his defense is solid, he’s got 25 base HP. This is going into the axe heavy Western Isles, too. You can fix this by instapromoting him, but Barthe is unsurprisingly not using that Knight Crest better than Allen, Lance, or Noah (hell, even trained Bors/Treck are better users, even if training Bors is… questionable.) His offensive presence is also quite bad owing to his low Skill and the lack of an Axereaver going into Isles. I think Barthe over Dorothy really indicates that he’s too high. At least Dorothy can kinda do things 60% of the time in one map. - Fir is also quite high, especially in a tier list aimed toward somewhat newer players. Fir is definitely an investment. She’s not hard to train, but you do have to be careful. The payoff, however, isn’t really amazing imo. There isn’t really a world where a frail, crit-reliant, underleveled myrmidon is worse than Echidna, Klein, or Bartre. I understand the idea is thet Fir holds up all game, but Klein and Bartre really benefit from lategame Wyvern spam, and can both be deployed late without much trouble. Echidna’s lategame is definitely mediocre, but she’s also the most immediately powerful Isles prepromote. - I feel like Geese is a unit that’s easy to call ok/solid if you haveb’t used him, but holy shit he’s actually miserable. He’s barely more accurate than Gonzo, and he has no offenses, no constitution, mediocre all arounder growths, and competes for Hero Crest (spoiler, unless you fly or use bows, there is probably heavy competition for your promotion item.) Geese has a 2-4 point lead in all non Luck/Res stats when compared to LOT, a unit who you recruit 7-8 chapters earlier. His main draw, his weapon rank, doesn’t matter because his Skill is awful, and both Bartre and Echidna can yoink his Brave Axe and use it better (Bartre’s hit won’t be great either, but his Strength is over double that of Geese’s so at least it does more when it hits, and Echidna’s Skill is just straight up good lol.) On the whole, I still very much agree with the general points, and the top two tiers (probably the most important part in any tier list to get right,) is pretty spot on, Marcus > Rutger especially. Lowkey, i kinda just wanted to rant about how fucking awful Geese is lol
Started the game as my first fe partially because of this, and imo "with wolt you can do thiiiiiiiis" ; "this" must be dying in 2 hits to the first enemies XD
"Barth? More like Barf!" That joke never gets old. People were using it in the early 2000s and still are. In all seriousness though, I tried him out in a hard mode run once and I was surprised he was better than any of the other armors (not that that's saying much) just due to his reliable growths (by FE6 standards) and he can wall the 24632473 nomads on the Sacae route and 246342 dragon knights on the Bern maps. Like seriously just let him go off on his own and distract the entire enemy army, he won't kill many if any of them, but they go after him anyway. That said he will still auto-die to magic users and still deserves a low ranking. As for the triangle attack. The run I used Wendy in I actually used that to level her up, since it has 100% hit and 100% crit which makes it like she is doing normal damage and it was really easy to get her to a usable level by the end of 8x. Not recommended outside meme playthroughs though.

You have god-mode Percival, Cecilia sucks, I know she gets defended for her utility, which is fine for a unit, but as _mage general_ she's bad, especially compared to Pent (which most Western fans played FE7 first). Then Douglas is just all around bad. I always wondered how an armor like Oswin would perform in FE6, not high tier, but not unusable outside of meme/challenge runs.
Bors may not be an S tier unit, but he does have an S tier chin. As always, the premium edits are always a fun time. Looking forward to more FE content.
This was the second Fire emblem game I ever played, I played after Sacred Stones. I was amazed by it and it was one of my favorite fire emblem games ever, I had no clue about all the dislike people had for it until I got older
I really want to give this game another try. I played it for the first time last year after years of loving the other GBA FE games, and I had a pretty bad time with all the boss crits and ambush reinforcements, but perhaps I just wasn't used to player phase-style gameplay
When I did my successful Ironman run of FE6 Sue and Shin carried the run. Their support gives them the avoid to reasonably dodge most enemies so they would just run out front with Shin leading and they would massacre enemy squads. This was especially in a run where I got Rutger killed.
Lol, I had that exact same experience with FE4. Somehow ended up with the game, couldn't read a lick of Japanese, and somehow managed to get to chapter 2 with everyone but Sigurd dead.
Don't know how I didnt watch this for so long. As someone that just cleared the game one time this matches what I remember. I played the game mostly blind only checking recruitment requirements and when I saw sophia I thought A- she is cute b- she is level 1 on her base class she must be the est of this game. I don't remember when but I gave up on her at some point
@@ImportedCheese You can give Alec the brave sword to make him pretty decent, but he isn't S tier, he's like a B tier with Midir. Some make Alec a magic sword build but it's pretty bad, Sigurd and Ethlyn are better candidates for magic swords. Alec usually has to compete with at least Noish for xp and items. Between the two of them I generally take Noish with the Brave sword as his stats are slightly more consistent, plus he's a good choice to pair with Ayra. Alec's biggest problem is he has no great pair ups and doesn't rejoinin you in Gen 2, so why invest in him? Even Midir and Noish have good pairups over him, but yeah he's mounted from the very beginning so still B tier.
Roy is actually S tier, his growths are off the charts Hes got -ten percent luck -Twenty percent skill -Fifteen percent concentrated power of will -Five percent pleasure -Fifty percent pain And a hundred percent reason to remember the name

Good tier list agree with everything But I would give fir a solid A I know she comes later than rutger but on hard mode 9 out of 10 times I trained her she ended with superior stats than rutger Training them together, giving them A support and killing egde and they kill everything in 1 turn
I think if i was gonna rebalance FE6, then i'd make Roy's starting weapon a blend of a light brand and rapier. 1-2 range, 6 Wt, 8 Mt, 40 Uses, and effectiveness against Cavaliers, Paladins, Knights and Generals.
@@ImportedCheese Perhaps, but if I recall nothing says "Get her to the village entrance for a free guiding ring!", though it's a 100% drop and effectively a reward for doing so. When I used Sophia I ended up using her more often for staves (staff leveling sucks, but being a meme run, it was slow, so I was able to get them up). Ray is unironically the best for combat if you bother to train him, it was a real shame he never got hard mode bonuses. I think he would have been decent if so.
Anyway yeah overall i think roy’s earlygame contributions on Hard Mode make him arguably better than FE7 Eliwood and FE8 Eirika, and he’s definitely better than Lyn and Micaiah yea

also for dieck, i havent played hard mode yet but in my normal playthrough hes a combat monster. i throw him in a bunch of enemies and it doesnt matter what it is, he just kills them all and gets scratch damage at worst. his def is surprisingly good. look up his averages. but i can see why hed fall off in hard mode. its also very useful in a blind playthrough where u never know whats coming up, so having a good fighter that doesnt die to effective weapons is very useful^^
Now this will be The Imported Cheese Premium Tier List ever, if not The Binding Blade tier list ever. Roy's our boy (but we still have to baby his entire existence)
Regarding Roy: I definitely think you put him in the correct place for this game, but I don't think he's anywhere close to the worst Lord in the series. The rapier having high hit for accurate attacks early on (as long as you don't use it against Lance enemies) and Roy's fire support make him much more usueful than trash lords like fe9 ike, fe11 marth, or fe7 Eliwood. (Micciah is also underrated but thats unrelated)

My initial thought was actually double wrong. Lot doesn't get STAB if he promotes to a warrior. That would be stupid. It's obviously type advantage.

Earlygame fliers are more often than not placed into higher tiers. If it doesn't happen instantly because said flier has a strenght growth in the "Eirika Experience" range, they will see ascension eventually as said games tiering lean more and more into movement range
While more FE stuff would be great, I think FE6 is the most fun to talk about for the stuff you mentioned during the stream. After this game, every unit is either "Train them and they'll be good!" or "They're already good and dominate the game!"
I think FE6 has a lot of polarized and interesting characters, but I think every unit being their own character means every game has lots to talk about. ...Except maybe the DS Archanea games, oof.

I think another point for clarine and Rutgers is their avoid. Fe 6 throws lots of strong enemies at you, many of which fly, so you have to be very careful with unit placement. Both clarine and Rutgers have amazing speed which translates to high avoid, but they also boost each other's avoid when supported. In addition, clarine has a huge luck growth. Luck is often looked at as the dump Stat in a sense, but when you have 15-20+ luck, it really makes a difference. Clarine is one of the few healers who can actually run in and heal on an unfortunate miss and dodge counter attacks (before you have physics of course). In the late game, I believe an A support and trained Rutger-clarine only face about 25% display hit against many enemies. Give them terrain bonuses and they'll never be touched.
I had an absolute blast with this video even if I haven't played this Fire Emblem entry in particular, your mix of good info and hilarious comedy never fails. I really hope we get to see a Blazing Blade video in the future, I loved that one a lot and got me to play more of the series, plus it has best husbando Hector!
Do Rutger and Stefan really make Swordmasters seem better than they are? The only hard mode FE game I've done is Path of Radiance and I was able to use most characters without much difficulty, even if I've heard that it's one of the easier games in the series. I even got Mia max leveled without using a Master Seal, since I thought it was a waste of levels since you're sacrificing 10 levels of potential stats for an early promotion.
Swordmaster is usually awful, Rutger is probably the most useful in the entire series Stefan has bonkers stats, imagine how good he'd be if he were a real class instead of Swordmaster!
I pick my fire emblem units by personality. That’s why Amelia is SSS++ tier. No. Shut up. She’s great. Make her a general, use her speed wing, give her boots from the desert, and she becomes a tank that doubles. Is it better to make her ride a horse? Yeah, but you get like, ten cavaliers. You have to shovel so much shit already, do you really want to add more horses? You can send her in the middle of the fray once she becomes a general and tear them to pieces. Make her support Franz as a great knight for beautiful blonde babies, and they’ll match speed. If this hasn’t convinced you that Amelia is the best unit ever, she’s also like, a young naive 18 year old girl. That’s peak fire emblem unit. The people who recruit her mistake her for a civilian, and she (accidentally) gives you a torch earlier in the game! Best unit ever. No, she’s great, shut up.
I actually think Wade and especially Lot's bow use on promotion is a good point in their favor. If you train their bow rank it'll eventually be way more reliable than a handaxe, especially if you get to C rank and start using Killer bows. Plus, Warrior strength + triple effectiveness on fliers = big damage and big number good also Chad gets one shot in his joining chapter lmfao
Love this channel, been enjoying the sudden switch to Fire Emblem stuff. Never realized how fitting that was for a Pokémon channel. I keep missing the fresh streams, but I got to see this one premier at least!
Honestly, I'd say Astolfo's stats are good enough when he joins that he can dodge tank pretty damn effectively if need be, Especially since he joins so close to the Axe Boi Isles section of the game. He can even give anyone that tries hitting him a decent black eye so that your actual fighting units can score themselves an easy kill or two every once in a while. Definitely stop horsing around with him before the route split though, by the time you're at Ilya he's definitely comparatively as fragile as Chad was when we recruited him. I also make it a point to save up every skill book I get for Gonzales to use, because it just isn't an true FE6 run without the Great Gonzales around to crit literally everything to death at the drop of a hat...and that's BEFORE he even becomes a Zerk, cuz it also ain't a true FE6 run without getting to listen to that majestic brigand roar a few times before switching over to MLG Axe Spinning Inc.
@@ImportedCheese thats the point I'm trying to make though, his role in such a scenario isn't to be fighting and killing, it's to, well, distract a foe and yeah poke them back to make another unit's job easier since they might be able to one shot them after said pokes. He might as well be put to use for SOMETHING after he's done thievin & stealin & filchin
My thoughts on FE6 overall is not a positive experience. It's one of my least favorite games in the series, right ahead of Shadow Dragon and Fates: Rev. It's not balanced, the hard mode gives you such a lobsided cast. 40% of the cast is good to useable, and then an entire Spray of units that you'll never use if you want to have fun in the game. Plus the game basically chokes you in earlygame maps, lest you reach an early grave. Hard mode gives you very little, and just isn't fun. The level design is also getting a fat thumbs down. Tons of massive, annoying maps with ambush spawns, hellish hit rates (FE6 Thrones suck immensely) and Every Gaiden besides Armads being just the worst thing ever imagined. A Warp staff doesn't make the pain go away, and it speaks volumes that the only defense is just "Better Call Saul" outta there. Roy also just can't do anything after chapter 12, he hits the level cap and proceeds to start swiftly becoming a massive liability you have to Chaparone everywhere, and the best ending being locked behind so many hoops to jump through? It's just not very good, and I'm glad that FE7 improved many of the issues.
As a fun sort-of sidenote to Rutger, while he is hilariously above average in terms of swordmasters in the main series, he pales in comparison to the swordmasters from Kaga Saga. In no particular order, we have: -A myrmidon that passively takes half damage from everything because of his personal weapon, has sol at base, and is virtually required to get a legendary-ish sword in the lategame (he can use that sword too, and it has 80 crit, so it's pretty nice) -A myrmidon that revives themselves automatically if they die and they are using their personal weapon, and still doesn't die if they die without it -An early game swordmaster that can attack 5 times in a turn in a game where doubling basically doesn't exist -An early game ranger (swordmaster with bows too) that has an innate +1 move, a prf brave sword, and immunity to crits and crippling blows (which are a terrible status condition that halves your move and makes you unable to use weapons/magic)
Echidna is actually not the only female hero. In Awakening you got Flavia before the last 2 chapter. Nobody remember cause she can't fly or nos tanking. Which automatically mean you're bad unit in Awakening.
If you're wondering why the defense growths are so low... look at the HP growths. For most units, they're well over 50%. (Barth even has 100% HP growth.) So basically, if they wanted to make defense growths higher, they'd have to make HP growths lower, or they'd risk making everyone way too tanky. This is true for most games in the series.

Basically stunlocking strong opponents to beat them despite having weaker stats, how many Pokemon achieves this in one turn with one move? Instead of just obnoxious smug laughter please provide a stronger arguments backed up by actual in-depth comparisons and evidence if you want to disagree. Mocking facts does not refute them."
I share the same opinion with most of the units, but Clarine is a force of destruction with Rutger at her side. They are two pieces of the ultimate weapon.
I really wanted towatch this one live, but unfortunately I was out at the time. Looking forward to watch now at my own pace now though. Also, I'd like to make a confession here: despite my favorite FE game being FE7, which I've beaten 10+ times, I've started playing FE6 twice in the past and I've never finished it. The maps towards the end are just SO LONG I kinda sorta got bored. Maybe if I give the game a new chance in the future I will Warp cheese a bit more freely. (Also thanks for the Xeno3 reference at the beginning)
When discussing the poopy axefighters of this game and comparing them to the others, you forgot the best axefighter of them all! Osian (Othin?) with his "yes I crit" skill and his 1-2 range killer axe with 60 uses! Other than that, great video/list. Always happy to see other people discussing some of my favorite games!
Chad was ok in my Thieves only run of FE6. Ya know, where I throw every stat increase at him and Cath so that they can deal any damage and survive a single round? Honestly their speed caps and support gave them enough avoid that they could tank Percival in Chapter 15 while Astore, an actually good combat unit, went to go win the game
I recently read through Melth's entire FE6 playthrough on LPArchive, and came back here to share some interesting differences i noticed in how their opinions compared to yours. Keep in mind that this was a Max Ranking playthorugh, so he did do stuff like minimize turn counts, maximize funds, and get as many level-ups as he could feasibly cram into his units (Seriously, he even got SOPHIA to [unpromoted] level 20!). So, without further ado: - i was surprised how quickly Marcus fell off. He was still vital for the earlygame, but still, i expected him to last a little longer. - Surprisingly, Alan turned out to be far better than Lance in the lategame, who ended up pretty weak despite having roughly average stats. Still, both carried for almost the entire game. (Although Alan also got a bit lucky with his STR and SPD gains) - Gonzales was an absolute BEAST of a unit, instantly becoming the army's top combatant and never falling below #2, making even Rutger look weak in comparison. The only unit better than him was... - Lilina! She ended up becoming THE best and most powerful unit of all, hands down. Although she also got a huge SPD blessing. - Niime was deemed to be "terrible". Although she was still way stronger than lv20 Sophia, who was used for the sake of both EXP rank and memes. - Miledy and Zeiss were predictably amazing, with Zeiss quickly becoming better than his mom. - Even more surprisignly, Ogier (Oujay?) ended up eclipsing Rutger and Dieck, although that was mostly due to a string of lucky level-ups.

I'd argue Micaiah and Lyn are better units than Roy, because in Lyn's case she's in a game with weaker enemies so her weaknesses aren't AS suspect as Roy's weaknesses is, and she can promote? She's not a great promotion candidate compared to Eliwood in HHM, but at least she can promote and I think it's easier to get Lyn enough kills to level up compared to Eliwood because she reaches doubling benchmarks far more consistently than Eliwood does? (Eliwood is still arguably better, but I still feel like Lyn can make for a faster promotion unit and her gains are significant enough where I think that potential kill advantage is better?) I tend to use Lyn a lot in fe7 too, I don't think she's a super crazy unit, but I think just becaue fe7 is such an easy game, she is can less of a detriment to your army than Roy is. Micaiah on the other hand has access to Thani, which is really strong against many of the stronger enemies in the Dawn Brigade chapter because of the fact it's a cav/armor knight effective weapon that targets res, so she definitely can help secure some kills on the really scary enemies of chapters. It helps that she is a good stave bot because of her hella good magic growth which can help during a lot of RD, especially during end game and that stuff. She also has a free a-rank support for Sothe, who is the main carry for part I. I think Micaiah has some actual use case scenarios, unlike Roy and Lyn, where she can absolutely do some work. it just sucks her bulk is wet toilet paper though. really enjoy this video and your insight doe, just felt like i wanted to share my perspective on like the 3 worst lords of the series. (I'd say Micaiah >> Lyn > Roy.)
i'd definitely agree roy is a better long term unit in fe6 if you train him up and he can contribute to chapters, but likeeeeeeeeeeeee it's quite a bit of a process to use him right imo in fe6.
I can concede on Micaiah, Thani is cool and she can always be a staffbot. Lyn is just horrendous tho...made of paper, late promotion, swordlocked (I know she gets bows but FE7 2x effective bows LOL)

oh boy a video about my favorite FE game I actually agree with a lot of your points! And I'm genuinely surprised you didn't do obvious moves like place some of the infamous units like Wolt or Wade at F tier. One thing I think you didn't note is how important Luck is in this game. Units like Saul get a pass for his abysmal luck base/growth because he's not gonna be a combat unit unless you put max investment in him, but combat units like Lot, Echidna, Lance, and even Milady and Rutger suffer from a very low base luck. It's not uncommon for those units to receive an unlucky crit that can absolutely ruin someone's iron man run. Other than that, I pretty much agree with your rankings apart from some nitpicks (like Marcus actually can be viable up to chapter 13 ish given he gets a lucky speed level) and biases I have (Bors for life), I honestly expected a usual FE tier list but this is pretty solid and aligns with my belief that Wendy and Sophia are arguably unusable on HM. Good list bro
While Rutger is the known the most for his massive crit rate, it's actually very possible to get over 100% crit rate in many other games of the series (like for example, Bernadetta can easily get 100%+ crit rate when fully set-up). The reason why Rutger is the most known is because only GBA FE display above 100% crit rate, the other just lock it to 100. And he's the best swordmaster in FE6, making so that he's the prime target for those memes. And while it's possible for FE7 and FE8 swordmasters to get over 100% crit rate (Guy can reach it for sure, don't know about the others), it's also needs more investment since they have a 15% crit bonus instead of 30%, making so that Rutger is just the easy one to point out since it's the easiest to replicate.
@@ImportedCheese With all crits bonus stacked (swordmaster + s rank swords + wo dao + supports + capped or very high skill and luck + Thor's Ire against a 0 luck enemy), he can. Though I did missremembered the video where I saw it happen, Karel was the one to actually reach over 100 crit, but all Swordmasters in fe7 can do it according to the description (you can find the video by searching fire emblem 7 above 100 crit, the video was posted by the channel TheSiaoz).
Clarine I've always felt like is the primo example for why Dodge-tanking should never be a viable strategy because in all my playthroughs of FE6, after a few levels, I genuinely struggle to remember when she *ever* took damage. That girls got some crazy fast feet, get in her in football man. They'll never catch her.
I personally believe Lyn is worse than Micaiah because the Lyn has a tiny problem... she's very pointless, she doesn't offer anything, in fact using her is an active detriment unlike other lords because of the opportunity cost, Micaiah is a forced deployment, and while is technically a worse combat unit than Lyn, she has some great utilities, like having Thani (the most overkill weapon that could ever exists... it existed in any other game, because RD hates magic, but Thani is still very strong and there exists good analysis of it's utility destroying key enemies), having access to Staves since Part 3 (and even she starts at C) and Sacrifice, Micaiah's weird niche that while usually superfluos, can save the day in the most unlikely of scenarios. --- About the Tier List itself, I love it, not really any complain, in fact I was happy to see how your opinions were very thoughtful, considering several aspects of the meta and what makes an unit good. Though, seeing this Tier List makes me wish more for a Binding Blade remake xD
good tier list but if theres one thing I think you forgot to mention its how valuable promotion items are in this game.FE6 has a very large and very frontloaded cast which means a lot of your units join unpromoted and the promotion items are also very sparse since you usually get 1 earlier on by around chapter 8 and then you dont get another one until like chapter 12-15. the knight crest is the most infamous example of an item that has a ton of candidates although imo its not that bad because most of the units who want it kinda suck and your really only picking from 2 maybe 3 candidates but the hero crest for example has multiple viable users with rutger being the most obv one. this is why i rate units that either join prepromoted like garrett or units whos promotion items arent very contested like shanna and sue higher than i normally would although tbf im not very well versed in fe6 compared to other games
How to make Armor Knights better: If they could use Axes at base and got Swords at prom to make them slow Paladins I guess... Sacred Stones this is not... Sadly Bors is in Biding Blade.. where he needs to STEAL Slim Lance from THANY to try NOT BE DOUBLED! AND EVEN THEN HE DIES TO ARROWS AND STEEL WEAPONS EVEN AT FORESTS!!! He can't dogde even if you manipulate his speed growth...

Big positive for Roy, it taught developers that if you want an MC to not be OP you make them great utility characters.
I think Ike is a more successful version of Roy, still underwhelming for most of the game but infinite use Ragnell gives him a great last impression

@@OmegaTyrant regal sword is meh for the fact that PoR has x2 effectiveness, if it wasn't for the horse bug Roy rapier does more damage to cavalry and Armors.
In term of enemies weaks to those swords the same damage against lances, 1 more against no lances or axes enemies and 2 more against enemies with axes. The thing is that in FE6 those enemies tends to have lances and magic and bow mounted classes thanks to the bug cavalry weapons doesn't do x3 damage.

My favorite memory of this game was in chapter 21 fielding Niime at the back in order to protect Merlinus from reinforcements. She was dodge tanking every enemy, to the point that she capped to level 20 even though the enemies only gives like 5 exp, and eventually even broke her tome so she's literally there to only dodge tank.

This is a great vid, and I love that you’re introducing new people to this series! I actually largely agree with the important placements here, but I do have a few things I think are worth noting:
- I think Barthe specifically is way too high. Barthe’s bulk, even physically, is actually quite unimpressive. He’s getting doubled by everything, and while his defense is solid, he’s got 25 base HP. This is going into the axe heavy Western Isles, too. You can fix this by instapromoting him, but Barthe is unsurprisingly not using that Knight Crest better than Allen, Lance, or Noah (hell, even trained Bors/Treck are better users, even if training Bors is… questionable.) His offensive presence is also quite bad owing to his low Skill and the lack of an Axereaver going into Isles. I think Barthe over Dorothy really indicates that he’s too high. At least Dorothy can kinda do things 60% of the time in one map.
- Fir is also quite high, especially in a tier list aimed toward somewhat newer players. Fir is definitely an investment. She’s not hard to train, but you do have to be careful. The payoff, however, isn’t really amazing imo. There isn’t really a world where a frail, crit-reliant, underleveled myrmidon is worse than Echidna, Klein, or Bartre. I understand the idea is thet Fir holds up all game, but Klein and Bartre really benefit from lategame Wyvern spam, and can both be deployed late without much trouble. Echidna’s lategame is definitely mediocre, but she’s also the most immediately powerful Isles prepromote.
- I feel like Geese is a unit that’s easy to call ok/solid if you haveb’t used him, but holy shit he’s actually miserable. He’s barely more accurate than Gonzo, and he has no offenses, no constitution, mediocre all arounder growths, and competes for Hero Crest (spoiler, unless you fly or use bows, there is probably heavy competition for your promotion item.) Geese has a 2-4 point lead in all non Luck/Res stats when compared to LOT, a unit who you recruit 7-8 chapters earlier. His main draw, his weapon rank, doesn’t matter because his Skill is awful, and both Bartre and Echidna can yoink his Brave Axe and use it better (Bartre’s hit won’t be great either, but his Strength is over double that of Geese’s so at least it does more when it hits, and Echidna’s Skill is just straight up good lol.)
On the whole, I still very much agree with the general points, and the top two tiers (probably the most important part in any tier list to get right,) is pretty spot on, Marcus > Rutger especially. Lowkey, i kinda just wanted to rant about how fucking awful Geese is lol

"Barth? More like Barf!" That joke never gets old. People were using it in the early 2000s and still are. In all seriousness though, I tried him out in a hard mode run once and I was surprised he was better than any of the other armors (not that that's saying much) just due to his reliable growths (by FE6 standards) and he can wall the 24632473 nomads on the Sacae route and 246342 dragon knights on the Bern maps. Like seriously just let him go off on his own and distract the entire enemy army, he won't kill many if any of them, but they go after him anyway. That said he will still auto-die to magic users and still deserves a low ranking.
As for the triangle attack. The run I used Wendy in I actually used that to level her up, since it has 100% hit and 100% crit which makes it like she is doing normal damage and it was really easy to get her to a usable level by the end of 8x. Not recommended outside meme playthroughs though.
I mean he's uh...the best of the trio? Probably more useful overall than the "great" general Douglas lmaooo

You have god-mode Percival, Cecilia sucks, I know she gets defended for her utility, which is fine for a unit, but as _mage general_ she's bad, especially compared to Pent (which most Western fans played FE7 first). Then Douglas is just all around bad. I always wondered how an armor like Oswin would perform in FE6, not high tier, but not unusable outside of meme/challenge runs.

When I did my successful Ironman run of FE6 Sue and Shin carried the run. Their support gives them the avoid to reasonably dodge most enemies so they would just run out front with Shin leading and they would massacre enemy squads. This was especially in a run where I got Rutger killed.

@@ImportedCheese You can give Alec the brave sword to make him pretty decent, but he isn't S tier, he's like a B tier with Midir. Some make Alec a magic sword build but it's pretty bad, Sigurd and Ethlyn are better candidates for magic swords. Alec usually has to compete with at least Noish for xp and items. Between the two of them I generally take Noish with the Brave sword as his stats are slightly more consistent, plus he's a good choice to pair with Ayra. Alec's biggest problem is he has no great pair ups and doesn't rejoinin you in Gen 2, so why invest in him? Even Midir and Noish have good pairups over him, but yeah he's mounted from the very beginning so still B tier.
Roy is actually S tier, his growths are off the charts

When I used Sophia I ended up using her more often for staves (staff leveling sucks, but being a meme run, it was slow, so I was able to get them up). Ray is unironically the best for combat if you bother to train him, it was a real shame he never got hard mode bonuses. I think he would have been decent if so.

also for dieck, i havent played hard mode yet but in my normal playthrough hes a combat monster. i throw him in a bunch of enemies and it doesnt matter what it is, he just kills them all and gets scratch damage at worst. his def is surprisingly good. look up his averages. but i can see why hed fall off in hard mode. its also very useful in a blind playthrough where u never know whats coming up, so having a good fighter that doesnt die to effective weapons is very useful^^

Regarding Roy: I definitely think you put him in the correct place for this game, but I don't think he's anywhere close to the worst Lord in the series. The rapier having high hit for accurate attacks early on (as long as you don't use it against Lance enemies) and Roy's fire support make him much more usueful than trash lords like fe9 ike, fe11 marth, or fe7 Eliwood. (Micciah is also underrated but thats unrelated)

I think she’s very useful, but definitely not for fighting. I’ve only ever used her for moving people around.
While more FE stuff would be great, I think FE6 is the most fun to talk about for the stuff you mentioned during the stream. After this game, every unit is either "Train them and they'll be good!" or "They're already good and dominate the game!"
I think FE6 has a lot of polarized and interesting characters, but I think every unit being their own character means every game has lots to talk about.

I think another point for clarine and Rutgers is their avoid. Fe 6 throws lots of strong enemies at you, many of which fly, so you have to be very careful with unit placement. Both clarine and Rutgers have amazing speed which translates to high avoid, but they also boost each other's avoid when supported. In addition, clarine has a huge luck growth. Luck is often looked at as the dump Stat in a sense, but when you have 15-20+ luck, it really makes a difference. Clarine is one of the few healers who can actually run in and heal on an unfortunate miss and dodge counter attacks (before you have physics of course). In the late game, I believe an A support and trained Rutger-clarine only face about 25% display hit against many enemies. Give them terrain bonuses and they'll never be touched.

Do Rutger and Stefan really make Swordmasters seem better than they are? The only hard mode FE game I've done is Path of Radiance and I was able to use most characters without much difficulty, even if I've heard that it's one of the easier games in the series. I even got Mia max leveled without using a Master Seal, since I thought it was a waste of levels since you're sacrificing 10 levels of potential stats for an early promotion.
Swordmaster is usually awful, Rutger is probably the most useful in the entire series
Stefan has bonkers stats, imagine how good he'd be if he were a real class instead of Swordmaster!

Make her a general, use her speed wing, give her boots from the desert, and she becomes a tank that doubles. Is it better to make her ride a horse? Yeah, but you get like, ten cavaliers. You have to shovel so much shit already, do you really want to add more horses? You can send her in the middle of the fray once she becomes a general and tear them to pieces. Make her support Franz as a great knight for beautiful blonde babies, and they’ll match speed.
If this hasn’t convinced you that Amelia is the best unit ever, she’s also like, a young naive 18 year old girl. That’s peak fire emblem unit. The people who recruit her mistake her for a civilian, and she (accidentally) gives you a torch earlier in the game! Best unit ever.

I actually think Wade and especially Lot's bow use on promotion is a good point in their favor. If you train their bow rank it'll eventually be way more reliable than a handaxe, especially if you get to C rank and start using Killer bows. Plus, Warrior strength + triple effectiveness on fliers = big damage and big number good

Honestly, I'd say Astolfo's stats are good enough when he joins that he can dodge tank pretty damn effectively if need be, Especially since he joins so close to the Axe Boi Isles section of the game. He can even give anyone that tries hitting him a decent black eye so that your actual fighting units can score themselves an easy kill or two every once in a while. Definitely stop horsing around with him before the route split though, by the time you're at Ilya he's definitely comparatively as fragile as Chad was when we recruited him.
I also make it a point to save up every skill book I get for Gonzales to use, because it just isn't an true FE6 run without the Great Gonzales around to crit literally everything to death at the drop of a hat...and that's BEFORE he even becomes a Zerk, cuz it also ain't a true FE6 run without getting to listen to that majestic brigand roar a few times before switching over to MLG Axe Spinning Inc.
I dunno if I'd call him "combat ready" but he can uh...poke?
@@ImportedCheese thats the point I'm trying to make though, his role in such a scenario isn't to be fighting and killing, it's to, well, distract a foe and yeah poke them back to make another unit's job easier since they might be able to one shot them after said pokes.
He might as well be put to use for SOMETHING after he's done thievin & stealin & filchin
My thoughts on FE6 overall is not a positive experience. It's one of my least favorite games in the series, right ahead of Shadow Dragon and Fates: Rev.
It's not balanced, the hard mode gives you such a lobsided cast. 40% of the cast is good to useable, and then an entire Spray of units that you'll never use if you want to have fun in the game. Plus the game basically chokes you in earlygame maps, lest you reach an early grave. Hard mode gives you very little, and just isn't fun.
The level design is also getting a fat thumbs down. Tons of massive, annoying maps with ambush spawns, hellish hit rates (FE6 Thrones suck immensely) and Every Gaiden besides Armads being just the worst thing ever imagined. A Warp staff doesn't make the pain go away, and it speaks volumes that the only defense is just "Better Call Saul" outta there.
Roy also just can't do anything after chapter 12, he hits the level cap and proceeds to start swiftly becoming a massive liability you have to Chaparone everywhere, and the best ending being locked behind so many hoops to jump through?
It's just not very good, and I'm glad that FE7 improved many of the issues.

As a fun sort-of sidenote to Rutger, while he is hilariously above average in terms of swordmasters in the main series, he pales in comparison to the swordmasters from Kaga Saga. In no particular order, we have:
-A myrmidon that passively takes half damage from everything because of his personal weapon, has sol at base, and is virtually required to get a legendary-ish sword in the lategame (he can use that sword too, and it has 80 crit, so it's pretty nice)
-A myrmidon that revives themselves automatically if they die and they are using their personal weapon, and still doesn't die if they die without it
-An early game swordmaster that can attack 5 times in a turn in a game where doubling basically doesn't exist
-An early game ranger (swordmaster with bows too) that has an innate +1 move, a prf brave sword, and immunity to crits and crippling blows (which are a terrible status condition that halves your move and makes you unable to use weapons/magic)

Echidna is actually not the only female hero. In Awakening you got Flavia before the last 2 chapter. Nobody remember cause she can't fly or nos tanking. Which automatically mean you're bad unit in Awakening.

If you're wondering why the defense growths are so low... look at the HP growths. For most units, they're well over 50%. (Barth even has 100% HP growth.) So basically, if they wanted to make defense growths higher, they'd have to make HP growths lower, or they'd risk making everyone way too tanky. This is true for most games in the series.

Paraflinching is objectively a strong strategy that significantly elevates Dunsparce's viability in Johto, especially in HG/SS where it gets Serene Grace of all abilities. Dunsparce's Paraflinching factually fares much better than other low bst Pokemon trying to spam attacking moves against gym leaders and other strong enemies. Basically stunlocking strong opponents to beat them despite having weaker stats, how many Pokemon achieves this in one turn with one move? Instead of just obnoxious smug laughter please provide a stronger arguments backed up by actual in-depth comparisons and evidence if you want to disagree. Mocking facts does not refute them."

I share the same opinion with most of the units, but Clarine is a force of destruction with Rutger at her side. They are two pieces of the ultimate weapon.

I really wanted towatch this one live, but unfortunately I was out at the time. Looking forward to watch now at my own pace now though.
Also, I'd like to make a confession here: despite my favorite FE game being FE7, which I've beaten 10+ times, I've started playing FE6 twice in the past and I've never finished it. The maps towards the end are just SO LONG I kinda sorta got bored. Maybe if I give the game a new chance in the future I will Warp cheese a bit more freely.

When discussing the poopy axefighters of this game and comparing them to the others, you forgot the best axefighter of them all! Osian (Othin?) with his "yes I crit" skill and his 1-2 range killer axe with 60 uses! Other than that, great video/list. Always happy to see other people discussing some of my favorite games!

Chad was ok in my Thieves only run of FE6. Ya know, where I throw every stat increase at him and Cath so that they can deal any damage and survive a single round? Honestly their speed caps and support gave them enough avoid that they could tank Percival in Chapter 15 while Astore, an actually good combat unit, went to go win the game

I recently read through Melth's entire FE6 playthrough on LPArchive, and came back here to share some interesting differences i noticed in how their opinions compared to yours. Keep in mind that this was a Max Ranking playthorugh, so he did do stuff like minimize turn counts, maximize funds, and get as many level-ups as he could feasibly cram into his units (Seriously, he even got SOPHIA to [unpromoted] level 20!).
So, without further ado:
- i was surprised how quickly Marcus fell off. He was still vital for the earlygame, but still, i expected him to last a little longer.
- Surprisingly, Alan turned out to be far better than Lance in the lategame, who ended up pretty weak despite having roughly average stats. Still, both carried for almost the entire game. (Although Alan also got a bit lucky with his STR and SPD gains)
- Gonzales was an absolute BEAST of a unit, instantly becoming the army's top combatant and never falling below #2, making even Rutger look weak in comparison. The only unit better than him was...
- Lilina! She ended up becoming THE best and most powerful unit of all, hands down. Although she also got a huge SPD blessing.
- Niime was deemed to be "terrible". Although she was still way stronger than lv20 Sophia, who was used for the sake of both EXP rank and memes.
- Miledy and Zeiss were predictably amazing, with Zeiss quickly becoming better than his mom.
- Even more surprisignly, Ogier (Oujay?) ended up eclipsing Rutger and Dieck, although that was mostly due to a string of lucky level-ups.
I guess uh....sophia is good for your xp rank.....?
@@ImportedCheese Yeah, while total garbage, she still was a mage, which is easier to feed kills to than any of the Axe Bros or Knights. Still a hillarously terrible unit.
I'd argue Micaiah and Lyn are better units than Roy, because in Lyn's case she's in a game with weaker enemies so her weaknesses aren't AS suspect as Roy's weaknesses is, and she can promote? She's not a great promotion candidate compared to Eliwood in HHM, but at least she can promote and I think it's easier to get Lyn enough kills to level up compared to Eliwood because she reaches doubling benchmarks far more consistently than Eliwood does? (Eliwood is still arguably better, but I still feel like Lyn can make for a faster promotion unit and her gains are significant enough where I think that potential kill advantage is better?)
I tend to use Lyn a lot in fe7 too, I don't think she's a super crazy unit, but I think just becaue fe7 is such an easy game, she is can less of a detriment to your army than Roy is.
Micaiah on the other hand has access to Thani, which is really strong against many of the stronger enemies in the Dawn Brigade chapter because of the fact it's a cav/armor knight effective weapon that targets res, so she definitely can help secure some kills on the really scary enemies of chapters. It helps that she is a good stave bot because of her hella good magic growth which can help during a lot of RD, especially during end game and that stuff. She also has a free a-rank support for Sothe, who is the main carry for part I. I think Micaiah has some actual use case scenarios, unlike Roy and Lyn, where she can absolutely do some work.

really enjoy this video and your insight doe, just felt like i wanted to share my perspective on like the 3 worst lords of the series. (I'd say Micaiah >> Lyn > Roy.)
i'd definitely agree roy is a better long term unit in fe6 if you train him up and he can contribute to chapters, but likeeeeeeeeeeeee it's quite a bit of a process to use him right imo in fe6.
I can concede on Micaiah, Thani is cool and she can always be a staffbot.
Lyn is just horrendous tho...made of paper, late promotion, swordlocked (I know she gets bows but FE7 2x effective bows LOL)
@@ImportedCheese Lyn's viability really depends a lot on whether you play Lyn mode or not. She's pretty bad either way, but she's kinda usable if you do play it.

I actually agree with a lot of your points! And I'm genuinely surprised you didn't do obvious moves like place some of the infamous units like Wolt or Wade at F tier.
One thing I think you didn't note is how important Luck is in this game. Units like Saul get a pass for his abysmal luck base/growth because he's not gonna be a combat unit unless you put max investment in him, but combat units like Lot, Echidna, Lance, and even Milady and Rutger suffer from a very low base luck. It's not uncommon for those units to receive an unlucky crit that can absolutely ruin someone's iron man run.
Other than that, I pretty much agree with your rankings apart from some nitpicks (like Marcus actually can be viable up to chapter 13 ish given he gets a lucky speed level) and biases I have (Bors for life), I honestly expected a usual FE tier list but this is pretty solid and aligns with my belief that Wendy and Sophia are arguably unusable on HM. Good list bro

While Rutger is the known the most for his massive crit rate, it's actually very possible to get over 100% crit rate in many other games of the series (like for example, Bernadetta can easily get 100%+ crit rate when fully set-up). The reason why Rutger is the most known is because only GBA FE display above 100% crit rate, the other just lock it to 100. And he's the best swordmaster in FE6, making so that he's the prime target for those memes. And while it's possible for FE7 and FE8 swordmasters to get over 100% crit rate (Guy can reach it for sure, don't know about the others), it's also needs more investment since they have a 15% crit bonus instead of 30%, making so that Rutger is just the easy one to point out since it's the easiest to replicate.

@@ImportedCheese With all crits bonus stacked (swordmaster + s rank swords + wo dao + supports + capped or very high skill and luck + Thor's Ire against a 0 luck enemy), he can. Though I did missremembered the video where I saw it happen, Karel was the one to actually reach over 100 crit, but all Swordmasters in fe7 can do it according to the description (you can find the video by searching fire emblem 7 above 100 crit, the video was posted by the channel TheSiaoz).
Clarine I've always felt like is the primo example for why Dodge-tanking should never be a viable strategy because in all my playthroughs of FE6, after a few levels, I genuinely struggle to remember when she *ever* took damage.

I personally believe Lyn is worse than Micaiah because the Lyn has a tiny problem... she's very pointless, she doesn't offer anything, in fact using her is an active detriment unlike other lords because of the opportunity cost, Micaiah is a forced deployment, and while is technically a worse combat unit than Lyn, she has some great utilities, like having Thani (the most overkill weapon that could ever exists... it existed in any other game, because RD hates magic, but Thani is still very strong and there exists good analysis of it's utility destroying key enemies), having access to Staves since Part 3 (and even she starts at C) and Sacrifice, Micaiah's weird niche that while usually superfluos, can save the day in the most unlikely of scenarios.

About the Tier List itself, I love it, not really any complain, in fact I was happy to see how your opinions were very thoughtful, considering several aspects of the meta and what makes an unit good.
Though, seeing this Tier List makes me wish more for a Binding Blade remake xD

good tier list but if theres one thing I think you forgot to mention its how valuable promotion items are in this game.FE6 has a very large and very frontloaded cast which means a lot of your units join unpromoted and the promotion items are also very sparse since you usually get 1 earlier on by around chapter 8 and then you dont get another one until like chapter 12-15.
the knight crest is the most infamous example of an item that has a ton of candidates although imo its not that bad because most of the units who want it kinda suck and your really only picking from 2 maybe 3 candidates but the hero crest for example has multiple viable users with rutger being the most obv one.
this is why i rate units that either join prepromoted like garrett or units whos promotion items arent very contested like shanna and sue higher than i normally would although tbf im not very well versed in fe6 compared to other games
