    I feel like I'm at a tank sanctuary watching the tanks playing with each other in their natural habitat.

    I participated in REFORGER from 1987-1990. Was assigned to 3rd COSCOM, 16th SUPPORT GROUP, 8th MAINT> BN, 53rd HMSC. We assisted in the unloading of equipment and storage until equipment was picked up by assigned unit.

    2nd Acr 1978-79, Merrell Barracks Nuernberg, FRG. Commander, 84th Engineer Company. The Cavalry Squadrons started with Sheridans and then transitioned to M60's. Those were the good days. Sheridan's were awesome. If you did a flank shot, the tank will flip over. With its 152mm main gun and light body, the radios would fall off the wall when the gun fired. Great stuff. Everyone rejoiced when they traded them in for M60's. Did a winter Reforger in 1979 with the 2nd Acr. Reforger in the winter is nothing like the ones in the summer. I had two CEV's in my Engineer company. Loved those vehicles. Good times I will never forget.

    394th Trans attached to the 2nd ACR Feucht Army airfield. 68J Weapons Specialist (AH-1S Cobra). This would have been the time I was in as someone else noticed the M113's. Out of Nuremberg but for Reforger we set up somewhere near Regensburg. Working on Cobras in the field under tarps, sleeping in GP mediums, senior cadre setting up a couple 'assaults' on us in the middle of the night over the course of a week+. I can smile now but when you reflect on it, all very serious stuff. I think the worse was when the Russians shot down KAL 007. Festival was in town in Nuremberg (I think it was a Saturday) when out of the blue MP's and Polezei are all over the place telling US and German soldiers to report to their units. By the time we got to the airfield all the Sleds, Scouts and Cobras were burning and turning, a few were in the hangers and they were being slapped together (if they could, I think we only had a couple that had to stay) and being pushed out the door. Then like that, all airborne and silence (think 50-60 helicopters whop,whop,whop then nothing). We then bugged out with our semi's heading for the French border (our dispersal point and not knowing why) only to be turned around sometime after mid-night.......I think the only time I was truly scared in my life. To all that serve and have served, thanks and peace.

    We tested these as the X-M1 Tank at Dona Ana Tank Ranges New Mexico from Ft Bliss in 1975-or-76?(Cant remember now). We were the 3rd ACR and we aint NEVER seen a Tank like that. WE had M60A1 s and M551 Sheridans that would do 35MPH on a GOOD day!!! hahahaha At the time they had issues with sand in that Huey Helicopter engine and the sand was killing the TRACKS they were trying at the time. Fixed it all and then the Army got it.

    I was in REFORGER in 1988 as an umpire and then again as a tank company commander in 1990 which was the famous "Nerf Ball REFORGER." Humvees with Nerf Balls on antennas to simulate combat power, thus sparing the Germans of maneuver damage. It was winter and very cold.

    • @bdinaz
      @bdinaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was there with 2AD. Watched the poor dejected 10th mountain troops walk through the cold all night to almost make contact with us only to have us jump 10km rearward. They had to start the process all over again.

      I was with the 2Bn 48Inf ‘Dragoons’ at Coleman Kaserne (3AD, USAREUR) from 1973-76… I was initially assigned to an Infantry Company, then eventually reassigned to the Redeye Section in CSC. I participated in Reforger ‘74 (Certain Pledge) and in too many other field exercises over those 3yrs to list here. I owe the Army a lot… among other things they helped me grow up, which I sorely needed at the time. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

      I was in this Reforger 88, 3ID, Kizingen. We still had 113s then and even into the mid 1990s and beyond. 1999 Kosovo - we went in with M113s in an Armor unit. 1-63AR, Vilsexk, 1ID. 1SG, medics and mechanics had them still.

      Well seeing as they're using the M1A1 instead of the M1 or M1IP along with Humvees, but still have M151 jeeps and M113's running around, I would probably say 1987.

    Vielleicht kann mir jemand weiterhelfen. Ich hab auf TH-cam vor längerem mal ein Video gesehen wo sich deutsche Leo1 und amerikanische Abrams während einer "freilaufenden Übung" "bekämpft" haben. War n richtiges Katz und Maus Spiel.
    Das Manöver muss Anfang der 80er gewesen sein. Leider find ich das Video nicht mehr. Hat jemand jemand ne Idee oder gar den passenden link zu dem Video?
