I'm so fortunate to have a local shop sponsor a "try-a-bike" event every year, having a chance to ride a carbon fatbike absolutely made me add one to my wishlist.. haven't been able to budget it in yet. Normally I don't even care about carbon but it was soooooo light for what it was!
Scooping up a Giant Yukon tonight. Pretty excited. Other bikes in my collection are a 21 carbon Stumpjumper and a 23 Trek Roscoe. Sold my gravel bike to pick up the fatty.
I got my first Fatbike this year it haves a 26x4,9 setup. and 1x7 gears... Very basic budget one.. So far it gets the job done as i use it for Wolt deliveries (Food delivery) and otherwise i do some local bike trails but mainly its a cheap workhose that i use to make money so i can continue stydying without worrying about debt etc.. In fact that fatbike was the first thing i bought when i started my company..... Now i am waiting for the snow so i can enjoy some nice rides
I've been riding my Salsa Mukluk 3 year round since 2015 - it's incredibly fun. Snow riding has really improved my mountain biking skills - your balance really improves since you're riding very slowly up hills, sometimes compressing 2 or 3 inches of snow, which really increases the workout. Many times you're forced to ride in ruts, because that's where the best traction is, and if you get out of the ruts, you sometimes end up sinking in a foot of snow - it really teaches you how to control your tires' locations. But the best part is the solitude - I very seldom see anyone else when I'm out riding, other than the occasional cross country skier or snowshoer. It's amazing.
I just purchased a Trek Farley 7 and it’s a tank. I ride over everything and it’s like I’m riding on a cloud. I’m a hoss of a man and I’m not worried about shaving grams of weight off to lighten the load. Chicks also dig them
I have an EMTB, but I bought a fat bike for the winter. What surprised me is how much fun the fat bike is in summer. I ride my fat bike more than I ride my EMTB because it is so much fun!
I like road bike because it's fast and I can do the supertuck which is fun. I'm courious about fat bikes because it's harder to pedal that it will give me a really good workout and fun to ride according to reviews here on TH-cam. Fat bike will definitely be my next bike.
I'm addicted to mine! I ride it everywhere.... road, two tracks, mtb trails, snow. Most weekends I'll ride 21 miles to the park and then ride the MTB trails and then ride home. I'll ride it to work. You are correct about getting fit! I'm looking at getting a second one now.
I brought one last month . I'm loving it ... use it than my other bike now ... have found by surprise that so many people stare at it and u get remarks on the size of the tyres. 🤣🤣🤣
I bought a fatbike week ago. I got a background of being a BMX rider during my teenage years. Now, +30y of age, I got interested back into bicycling. I use bike to go to work but got into thinking of doing so the full year. I live in Finland which means we got snow and low temps at winter so because of that, fatbike got my attention. I can surely say that fatbike really fits for beginners because I've been doing some exploring off the urban areas and head for trails and such. It also is good for getting fit, and it sure is fun. Me personally had quite hard to find any info here about this sport but managed to get one(I believe)decent bike.
Thanks for the video. I had a fat bike a few years back and sold it. Regretted that ever since. Considering a new fat bike because yeah, they are fun as heck.
I feel like fat bikes are a rebirth of the original mountain bikes. They basically do all the things the original mountain bikes were meant for but more extreme while retaining the rigid frame and fork. They hark back to simpler times.
I don’t disagree with your premise, but, the fat bike has evolved very rapidly. What took the mountain bike 20-30 years we have seen at bike refinement in 5-10. Front suspension, full suspension, refined geometry it all happened pretty quickly since the Surly Pugsley hit the bike shops. I know, custom fat bikes were around for a decade or more up in Alaska before Surly started to market fat bike rims and tires, but those original wheels, getting the manufacturers to make the tires and rims are what got the whole thing rolling. Those high end racing fat bikes are so different than the first Pugsley. It’s like comparing a Tour deFrance pro race bike with a touring bike. Surly even classifies the Pugsley as a touring bike the last time I looked at their website. I won’t even get started on the whole fat eBike thing……. Fascinating to watch this era in cycling developing so quickly.
Thinking of purchasing my 1st Fat tyre bike after Trail Riding on a full suspension bike for a good few year now and I have been a little bit undecided up until now. However in your short video you've just confirmed all the reasons I was originally thinking of buying a Fatty in the 1st place. Thank you so much for your informative video 👍
@@adkj1996 Not yet, still nursing a torn ligament in the shoulder and broken ribs after a little spill on the bike. But I've been looking at the Carbon Trek Farley. What's your thoughts on this 🤔
I live in a coastal town in Oz and want one for beach riding only. I cant decide on a efat or not as sea air is going to eat it alive.... I think cheap is the way to go as have other mtbs...
is it possible to ride a fat bike even on suburban paved streets or paved bicycle paths? I'm currently riding my Chopper cruiser (45 lbs, 1 speed, 3 inch tires) on my streets a few nights a week. It just seems that if I'm able to enjoy my Chopper Cruiser, a Fat bike which is probably a bit lighter and has speeds would be a fun change.
big fan of the "ride fat, get fit" statement. I hope that applies to fat ebikes too. I realize there is a motor factor, but I'm in the market for one and riding is riding. **turns off motor assist**
I use a bike to go my work and shopping in city, and I want to buy a fat bike, how is a fat bike in city roads? does it takes more energy and rides too heavy?
Thanks. I have 2 fatbikes. I agree for beginner to average ability riders ( i consider myself an average rider) fatbikes are awesome. When you see videos of world class riders comparing regular MTB's against fatbikes and they are faster on those MTB's they can push a bike to 100% of its ability. I cannot. And the Fat bike is SO forgiving.
Not sure what to do, Im interested in getting a fat bike to get into shape and start mountain biking but also to get to work, would this kinda bike be a good option for all 3?
depends how far the ride to work is - the longer that ride the less likely you would want a fat bike for it - but if not too long you could get faster tyres or wheel setup
How do fat tires fare riding on slippery surfaces without studs? Do the tires need to be underinflated to get the most amount of grip surface? Are there options for a fatbike with regular, close mud guards?
How were you not terrified at this point of not falling off that mountain? th-cam.com/video/VRB1SrpVs7Q/w-d-xo.html You hit a rock and your front tire veers off to the right?.
Got my first fat tire bike this week. I got the mongoose dolomite. My bike is pulling to the left a little and it feels weird. Is this normal? My wheels are centered though.
Actually, that minimum and "back to simpler times" speaks to me the most. I've bought way too many bikes and too many parts and still not satisfied. When you have ONE, you ride ONE, and have fun.
My Surly Ice Cream Truck was a game changer for me. I can finally enjoy the winter as a non x-country skier in Norway.
Same for me! I wasn’t into any of the traditional snow sports so a fat bike opened up a new world for me haha.

Solitude is definitely my favorite part of snow rides as well!

I’ve taken my Farley over river rock with slight effort. Never been able to do that with a regular bike.

I agree with just about everything you said here! Great video! I ride a Borealis Crestone!!
Just ordered a salsa mukluk today! Hoping to use it as a way to keep riding outside during the winter and avoiding ski traffic.

@@RideYearRound I hope. Next winter will show. This video made me to consider upgrading a suspended fork however

I'll get one one day, when the price comes down. In the meantime I'll just watch videos
cant put fat tires on a bus rack. 2.35 is about as wide as you can get for a normal rack. good enough for 50 weeks a year here north of Detroit.

did you buy one?

just discovered your channel...love it...the info is great..to the point..clear...and gives me insights I would have never thought about, thanks!
Thanks for the kind words!
That’s a great mtb video to watch! I just subscribed to you 😃

Excellent video, you nailed every point why fat bike are so great!
Couldn’t agree more! 👍🏽
All good points. Definitely love fatties! I hadn't thought about putting a suspension fork on during the summer. I think I'm going to do that!
It’s definitely not necessary and I still enjoy the rigid fork in the summer sometimes, but if you ride it on dirt a lot it can make a big difference.
My Fat Bike has a 1000W motor on it, my biggest worry is just pot holes.
Why is there no Queen parody song "Fat Tire Bikes"?

Yeah it is, a lot of people use fat bikes to commute around cities in winter, but it’s definitely possible year round.

fat for life! getting a full squish in a few weeks! cant wait!!!!

Thanks for the info! Does the bigger tires take up a lot of the beating your arms take without the front shock?
It definitely takes the edge off, but not as plush as a suspension fork. I really enjoy it either way though!

Great video! I'm thinking of getting myself a surly ICT. Can you tell me where you got the extra 29+ wheel set from?
Lacemine29 custom built them. You can also get them through Corvus or RSD.
@@RideYearRound thank you!
How do fat tires fare riding on slippery surfaces without studs? Do the tires need to be underinflated to get the most amount of grip surface? Are there options for a fatbike with regular, close mud guards?
Lowering the pressure can for sure help, but if it's really icy then studs are really the best solution.
Totally agree. Fat Bikes rule!
👍👍👍
you can't ride on snow if there;'s more than let's say 7 or 8 inches of snow, you wont have the man-power to plough through the snow
What is your opinion of the KHS 4 seasons 1000? new to biking and just bought one...6'0.. 300 lbs any advice?
Exercise that thing will work you

Probably just need to add some air pressure to your tires, sounds like it’s giving some “self-steer”.
what if im kinda skinny
not for beginners
Yeah, you lost me at 'helps me keep my bikes to a minimum' What are you talking about?! :-) My next bike probably will be fat.
