    What's interesting is that they actually only built the starboard side and the decks. The port side of this ship is just a huge opening. The problem with this is that for the Southampton scene they needed the port side of the ship and not the starboard side. They had to mirror all lettering on the dock buildings, cars, and the ship name as well. They also had to mirror all the actors' clothes and hairstyles as well, which is why Leonardo Dicaprio's hair looks a bit weird in that scene, it wouldn't comb over to the other side that well. In editing they flipped the camera footage over so all lettering would look correct again.

  • @BenJaminLongTime

    jesus I hadn't ever thought about how they filmed the scenes on the ship but if I had I would have assumed they just did it on a look like ship and created some sets, not the whole damn ship lol. the tilting rear is pretty cool too, again hadn't ever thought about the filming aspect of that scene.

      Where on earth did you get that nonsense?? The movie was shot onboard the RMS Asturias, that was scheduled for scrapping. Most of the starboard side had be demolished, and so they used mirrors to mimic that side of the ship. It was a good movie for its day, but the interiors were very different from that of the real Titanic and hardly any sets were made for the film. The 1979 movie S.O.S Titanic, was even worse, it was mostly filmed on board the Queen Mary in Long Beach, a ship that was decorated in art deco style, the real Titanic was mostly Edwardian. The dining room and staterooms was the The Waldorf Hotel in London. The only movie with the most historically correct interiors will always be James Camerons. Nobody will ever come close to that.

    This replica was 85% of titanics size, not 90%. It was also way to deep draught in the water so it looked not as high and massive as the original ship. You can see that clearly in the scene when they film the whole ship just after they stopped it after the iceberg hit, that F deck portholes is almost at the water surface. In reality F deck portholes was around 3.5-4 meters above the water line.

    They could literally rebuild the actual ship, don't you think? And the technology we got today is way more advanced than it was in 1912. Do you think Titanic had it's time as a passenger ship in 1912 or could they try again?

    Does anyone know the exact dimensions of this model? the actual Titanic was 269 meters long as I read. I would like to compare this one to the original

    • @Ryzilience

      Sorry im late! The set was labelled as 775 feet! So it was 15 feet shorter than Lusitania. Roughly about 235 meters long!

    • @FranzDiwischek
      @FranzDiwischek 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They wanted the smoke from the towers wave in the right direction, so it was on purpose. They had to built the itmes anyway on their own. You can read all of this in the official book James Cameron's Titanic.

      Green screen is actually invented in 1940. And also, when they use green screen, it looks cheap and not realistic.
      That's why they won so many awards especially to the Best Production Design.
