  • In this example of how the CALS® HD can help in mining operations, a Carlson customer in Europe (the Balkan Peninsula) needed to know the actual condition of a collapsed drift. This was an inaccessible area and standard methods could not be used to survey the remaining part of that drift. Since the C-ALS can be deployed through a hole it was decided to drill one from an operational drift. The C-ALS probe was delivered to the inaccessible drift via a 21m nearly horizontal hole. Once the scanner reached the area of interest it collected a 360-degree point cloud, full HD pictures, and videos. The system automatically geo-referenced the point cloud which allowed the customer to compare new data with the previously created 3D model right in the field. Moreover, the latest version of the C-ALS, the C-ALS HD, is equipped with a full HD camera and powerful LED light which helped to visually identify areas of concern. This short video shows the survey results.
