      @@benoitlevesque9609 I had it in medium sized pebbles (bc that was all I had) and it survived for around 2 years until I buried the leaves as well, and now the new growth is melting. Originally, I did bury the roots- just make sure that you have smaller grain sizes and it is sturdily in there so you don't end up breaking any of its roots.

      @@elithewholeshebang that would be why it is rotting, anubias are to be placed onto rocks or wood with glue or string. they get most their nutrients from the water column so the rhyzome cant be buried

    SUBSCRIBED... BIG BIG BIG THUMBS-UP.
    I wish that I had seen this video. Ten day's ago I removed £45-£50 of plant's from my new aging tank, they were only 5 days old and looked dead so I didn't want them to rot and put toxins into my new tanks water so I binned them! One or two of them had really small green shoots but I thought that if I kept them they would do more harm than good staying in the tank. I was left with 3 plant's! Now they have wilted and gone brown but on closer observation they have tiny shoots that look healthy. I now know how to treat the problem after watching your video.
    No need to ask if I have subscribed I can't afford not to subscribe lol.
    Thank you for sharing your video, take care my friend 👍😷👍

    I have all my plants in rooting cups that way their roots can grow out and the foliage can grow up, and it is easier when cleaning my tanks with plants. Also, like in hydroponics, I can trim the roots back to cause more growth on the top. It works like a darn, Merry Christmas.

    Dumb question. Can I trim the amazon sword leaves with scissors instead of plucking them off? I fear that I may uproot the plant by pulling on it since I put it in the aquarium just a week ago. I know it is not advisable to touch the plant until it establishes itself a bit, but there is serious decay happening with the old leaves and there are a lot of them. I did a noob mistake for taking the most bushy looking one.

    I had a Crack in one of my tanks so I decided to remove all the water from it. I had some crypt wendtii in the tank and even though I removed all the large plants , there were still some small ones in there. I let the substrate dry for months and finally went to empty the tank when I noticed some small nodes in the substrate. They did not have any leaves. Only few dried up roots and a node. I was curious so planted them in my new setup.
    Fast forward to 2 weeks and they are now growing new leaves! Ironically, My other extremely healthy, emersed grown crypts are melting while these are thriving.

    It think it has more to do with how long your water set itself up before you plant anything plus what substrate you are using. As well lighting. If the lights are too covered with floating plants then what's below gets no light. I use a plastic tube pushed into itself to make a ring. They float and keep the floating plants in place plus let's light hit the soil. Lastly make sure the plant has enough room for its roots to grow out from. Too much too close together and they will not survive. I get plants with long big leaves and they never melt. It's the little stick trees I have issues with. Any advice on those?

      Plants in enclosed quarters have chemical warfare going on. They have the ability to totally kill each other if that's what they think it takes to rule the tank. Next time, put your banana plant all by itself. They don't rule much in the big tank. Same with baby tears. Some plants choose to exist together and some do not.

    I bought a huge Amazon sword with leaves at least 12” long, after having it in my tank a long time, it has plenty of new tiny leaves no more than 4” long! Why so small? I fert and have high intense lights 4/5 watts/per gallon.

  • @trevor361
    @trevor361 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    so, the sword on the right has a leaf shape attributed to emersed growth, but it is also the same as a sword I have that has been grown submerged, but in shallows, to achieve aerial advantage. Is this why you stated people should wait a few days to a couple weeks to do pruning, in order to determine whether it is emersed growth or submerged growth with surface contact, which does fine when fully submerged?

    • @trevor361
      @trevor361 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have 3 swords in my tank, 2 I grew fully submerged, and 1 with aerial advantage, but not emersed, just barely touching the surface, which greatly accelerated its growth relative to the other two, such that it is double to triple the size of them, but has no difficulty when placed deeper in the tank. I have never considered growing Amazon Swords with the leaves or full plant truly emersed. What kind of difficulty and results can I expect in attempting to, and if I try it, should I try fully emersed, or just the leaves emersed? I have 3, so I might as well try all 3 ways, if they all work. :)

    This is why crypts will always be my favorite. They are almost always propagated fully submersed in little pots and you don't have to worry about any of this! I recently bought a tall aquarium and am looking for tall plants. Maybe Amazon swords and stem plants. Basically it sounds like you are saying they are going to melt regardless. That's a great tip. When plant shopping I'll opt for the cheaper baby ones and ones with new growth like you've shown here.

    I have two swords and a red melon and in my 75 gallon tank with a fluval plant LED light, eco complete substrate, fertilizers root tabs the whole nine yards, When I first got them they had huge adult leaves, which died off within weeks due to the change in water and a new environment. It’s been months I believe half a year, and I’m still left with a plant that has a ton of short leaves and just refuses to grow upwards. I really don’t understand, everything else in the tank is doing fine except for these. 10-12 hours of light per day as well as everything mentioned above. Tank is 83 degrees, PH of 7.5, water changes once a week.

    Followed. Being trying to find ways to keep my plants alive and never got a good answer. Have good light, substrate and temp, a little high nitrate but everything else seems right. Plants still turn brown and melt even annubias. I guess i just have to be patient and cut them off. What does it mean though when it starts to have holes in leaves?

    I added duckweed to an established tank because I've been trying to convert it to a tank that requires no (or less) water changes. The problem is now all the stem plants are melting while my vals have just stopped growing. So what now? Is it that the duckweed is sucking up all the nutrients? Or maybe blocking the light? I don't want to lose my stem plants :(

    I love your videos, you really seem to know your stuff and I've learned a lot of useful information from you. Having said that, there is really no excuse for that beard not being incorporated into your logo.

    Hiii so sorry to bother you. Do you have a similar vid but for stem plants instead? My usually more demanding stem plants keep growing and when i trim them, the bottoms just keep dying and rotting away. At some point the rotting became faster than the growth so it just dies :(

    i have a problem with some plants that melted after restarting my tank. I did a salt bath and kept them in water the entire time i was scaping the new tank. they never left the water for more than 10 seconds total...

      I did change substrates and the water was more room temp that they were kept in for a few hours opposed to the 80F degree water. I also used 1 cup table salt/gallon to do the salt bath but i found out im supposed to use aquarium salt... maybe that's the issue?

    Thank you for the great information. Can the same process happen with a plant from one tank to another where the water chemistry might be slightly different. I moved some Java fern (over a year old) to another tank and it started to melt/now it has tons of brown pinholes
