I'm glad it was useful. I think that the percentage of people who can buy a new one has increased due to lower prices and affluent world. On the other hand, the number of people who cannot afford the time has increased.
Very Useful, and wondering if this fix would apply to my P520 mode problem. I don't get the error screen you do on power up, my LCD lights normally with camera view. But no matter where the Mode dial is set, it flips modes continually every second or two making it impossible to even view stored photos. That includes auto focus which flips on and off too. My original (new) P520 starting doing this at about 1-1/2 years old. I bought a 2nd P520 used, and it started doing exactly the same thing after only 2 months of light use. A large camera repair outfit said there was nothing they could do, as no parts are available. These cameras take beautiful photos, far outstripping my cell phone camera.
If it is not submerged and the motherboard is corroded, I feel that the mode dial is the cause. It seems that you have two, so why not try experimenting with one? Simply wipe off the original contact grease completely, attach an electrical contact cleaner and rotate it left and right several times. If you don't have an electrical contact cleaner, you can rub it with an eraser. Be careful of the type of electrical contact cleaner. Does not melt resin or metal.
@@orientalbored I have the DeoxIT D5 spray which says it's plastics safe; and when I've used it, it is. I also have a pen style nylon brush that has worked well to remove electrical contact corrosion (and also erasers). Is the DeoxIT D5 suitable?
@@rhamil54 I haven't used DeoxIT D5, so I don't know, but as far as I can see the reviews from Amazon Japan, it seems to be okay. By the way, I use a cheaper CRC (KURE) contact spray. I don't want to think that the American-made Deox IT D5 is bad for three times the price.
@@orientalbored I'm definitely going to give the repair a try with one of my two P520s. Needed to get #0 and #00 Phillips screwdrivers, but just located those locally. I noticed there's a guy on eBay selling a "power shutter zoom board" assembly that includes the mode control - guaranteed working. If I mess up the repair, I might try going that way with the 2nd P520. I'd probably have to clean the contacts on that one too though.
Hi. My B500 has a corroded negative contact for the battery and has a piece broken off. Any ideas on how I can fix this issue as to replace the contact. Ideas on opening the battery compact would be appreciated. Thanks.
When disassembling, record the locations of screws and parts. Make it possible to confirm by taking photos or videos. Check the cables when removing the back body. Don't hurry while working. The main board, the top board of the battery box, and the left board are connected by soldering, so you need a technique to cleanly remove the solder with a solder wick. There is a flash capacitor behind the shutter button, so be careful not to get an electric shock. To remove the battery contact at the back, remove the strobe capacitor wiring. [[Be very careful about electric shock. ]] If possible, discharge the strobe capacitor with a 1kΩ/1W resistor before starting work. Gently rub the contacts with a flat head screwdriver to see if any rust is removed. If that is not possible, lightly sand the surface with 1000 grit or higher sandpaper. To replace the damaged part of the contact, cut a thin stainless steel plate or other springy metal plate and process it carefully. Consider whether there are any other personal items that can be used.
Thanks a lot for the reply . I’ll need to get the right tools and get organised. I’ve disassembled iPhones before so applying the same process. I’ll keep you posted. Enjoy your Xmas day and everyone else who’s reading this today.
Hi. I'm from Brazil and I have a damaged Nikon P520. When turning on, the power on button stays on for 5 sec and goes off, the viewfinder doesn't turn on and the lenses don't turn on either. They say it is a chronic problem in this model that can only be resolved with a physical intervention on the motherboard. You've already seen such a problem. Would they have any tips on how to fix it? Any technical assistance to indicate? Thanks for your help.
It is a common illness of the Nikon P series. If the power is turned on from the play button, it may be revived once by updating the firmware, but the others are dead. If you don't have knowledge of electronic technology, I think it's time to replace the motherboard.
The original contact grease becomes insulating when it dries, so it's okay as long as the grease hasn't deteriorated. If it deteriorates severely, it will not recover even if you rotate it. I'm glad it was fixed.
@@orientalbored I'm like 13 idk how to do screwdriver stuff and all that my mom told me smth was wrong with it for a very long time we're going on a trip tomorrow so I had to fix it to click pictures
The S7000's mode dial is not greased. No disassembly required. As an emergency measure, you can remove the battery, spray a large amount of contact recovery spray from behind the mode dial, and rotate the dial left and right. However, it would be difficult to prepare electrical contact restoration spray in one day. And when you have time, you need to disassemble and clean it as a reliable repair, but unlike the P500, disassembling the mode dial of the S7000 is quite troublesome. If you touch the flash capacitor, you will get an electric shock and it will be quite painful. In Japan, you can get disposable film cameras on the same day at a low price. Is it not sold in your country?@@saw4koo
Any product with a widespread problem suffered by many consumers is defective and should have been recalled for repair or replacement by Nikon. A class action lawsuit should be brought against such companies who make defective products and push them off on consumers with some so called fix that doesn't work for most.
shutterstock?shutterstuck? If the shutter button does not move, disassemble the unit around the shutter button and remove it and clean the parts of the button. Alternatively, try a fluoride spray. However, if the slippery paint is scraped off, it will not work smoothly.
If you can press the shutter button but not take a picture, there is a high possibility that there is a problem with the lens or various electronic boards. Ask a camera shop to repair it, or repair it yourself if you have repair experience. Or, sell it as junk and forget it all.
Nikon is the same even if the model is different. If you search on TH-cam you will find videos of other people repairing it, so use those as reference. Be very careful with this model as the flash capacitor terminals are exposed and dangerous.
If the wire is not broken or corroded, I think the P500 series can be fixed by the same work because it has the same contact method. And P600 series same too.

there's a delay like this on my P500's.
Lens, motherboard failure or shutter button deterioration?
Or is it a preview setting?
