    Have to say I'm a bit disappointed in having to even do it this way. Just was having issues with Hollister two piece but did like you could burp the bag and the bag clipped in so easy to the flange. Learning after the fact since I just started using the Coloplast Sensura Mio yesterday. It was ballooning on me this morning so unlocked the click and was going to burp it like the Hollister and of course, it started falling off after it was filling up!! Sure would be nice if these companies would combine the best of their features into one product. I'm still new at this but not sure I'm liking this part plus it's an extra expense.

      I do agree that it would be nice to have the best of each feature combined into one! Maybe one day we'll have a "build your own ostomy appliance" service. I already know what I'd want on mine!
      But you are right, trying to burp the Mio bag (or any Coloplast clip system) is going to be difficult and risky.

    Hi Eric, Great video, but I think there should be a caption at 4:28 that says, "Warning: do not try this on a crowded elevator". :-)
    I installed my first Osto EZ-Vent a few days ago (as per your instructions) and I needed it on the very next morning! According to the demo video on TH-cam, the built-in filter (for the Mio Click) looks awesome; however, in reality, I find that it doesn't work. Ballooning is a major problem for me with these pouches. Also, when fully inflated, it's impossible to burp them. I guess these two combined problems (the filter doesn't work and the pouch can't be burped while inflated) are the reasons why people use the Osto EZ-Vent in the first place, otherwise it wouldn't be needed. If you don't have good insurance, the price tag of US$2.00 per filter seems rather high. I wonder if they can be re-used by cleaning and re-attaching with hot glue or some good double-faced tape? If so, then a pack of 10 might last a whole year instead of a month.

      Oops, I said the cost was about US$2.00 per filter. I meant "per vent", not "per filter". Sorry about that.

    I can’t help but wonder why haven’t they already put these on the bags? They seem to be so convenient. What’s the downside of not having that cool venting system? Thanks for making the video. I’m now going to try it.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two different companies make them, so they'd have to partner up to get that to happen. But Coloplast does make a stick on filter, which I believe is called "filtrodor" but it's not a vent like this and works more like a traditional filter. If you do try the ez-vents, let me know if you like them.

    Three questions:
    1. I know you wear your pouch sideways with your Stealth Belt. Do you ever have output reach your osto-ez-vent and clog it or even come out the vent?
    2. Do you empty your pouch from the horizontal position or do you rotate it or do you rotate it back to vertical? Have you ever had the pouch pop off when you try to rotate it when it is “full”?
    3. Have you ever had the osto-ez-vent come loose from its narrow location rubbing against your wafer and leak?
    I’ve had all three of these things happen but I need to make this work... I need to make the Stealth Belt work, I need to make the Sensura Mio work, and I need to make the osto-ez-vent work, and all three need to work together.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you so much. You’re like the Fairy God Mother of ostimates the world over!

      Hey there, Miles.
      1) I haven't used the combination of an EZ-Vent and a StealthBelt in a long time. Output can/will reach the EZ-Vent regardless of the orientation, but rather than placing it on the very top center of the bag, I would place it on the top side so that when it's horizontal the EZ-Vent would be on the "top". I hope that makes sense.
      2) If the pouch is long (i.e. 12" "Large" size) then I can just tilt it down to empty. Rotating is a better experience, however, and it's never come off when using it with the stealthbelt.
      3) The EZ-Vents have never come off or shown signs of coming off. I've also never heard of that happening.
      Getting everything to work for you at the same time might be a bit of a challenge. The Mio's aren't ideal for rotating as they do rely on the lock to actually keep the bag from coming off. If you can find a technique to emptying your bag while keeping it locked vertically, you'll have less chance of it coming off.
      Also, check if the transparent Mio bags are available where you live. They don't have the fabric and have NO FILTER, which makes them ideal for both using in a stealthbelt and placing the EZ-Vent.
      I'd invite you to join my online forum, as we do have members who use the EZ-vents and they may be able to share more tips. It's www.veganostomy.ca/community/
      Good luck!

      Vegan Ostomy :
      Thanks for your thorough reply. It was very helpful. I found your SenSura Mio “jack” adding two drops of oil into the wafer flange groove. It makes rotating the pouch much easier. I did have an Osto-ez-vent come loose. I’m going to assume I didn’t install it correctly and keep trying. I would hate to change to the transparent bags but if the covered bags don’t work with osto-ez-vent I might have to make that change (venting is crucial). Thanks again. Your advice and experience have been invaluable!

    Hi Eric, Thank you SO much for the videos you've done!! I would have been completely lost or at least a lot more uncomfortable without them! I have a rather silly question. Kem recommended cleaning the bag where the vent will go with I believe it was 90 or 91% alcohol and it states that Walgreens and Walmart carry it. I live in a rural area and a Stater Brothers Supermarket is as good as it gets and I have 70% alcohol as thats what they carry. Do you know if it will be to a great detriment to not have the recommended percentage? Thank you so much! Blessings to you and your family!Megan

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  ปีที่แล้ว

      70% will work fine. Really, the idea is to give the sticker portion of the EZ-Vent a good surface to stick to. Be thorough and any percent of alcohol will work. Good luck!

      I had the same problem. Same exact problem, if I understand you correctly. I wanted to use the convex flip with " click". The person at Coloplast says I could put the 2 pieces together BEFORE attaching to the body. That was not preferable but I wound up doing that. And. ...by the way even that was not easy to do. I wound up using the flat hard top of my dresser.

  • @thewisepowerchair2369

    Eric, please, I cannot fold the top down into the stoma hole because of the base plate - the part that sticks to you - will not allow me to make the fold. Also, I cannot insert scissors into the vent hole but I can get an unbent paper clip in. Would you recommend cutting the plastic with scissors both sides of the vent? Or can I use my unbent paper clip to pierce the hole? Also, as I cannot fold the vent down, can I leave the pierced hole at the very top of the bag? I do hope you can help. I am slightly panicking.
    Just a couple more things. It seemed as if you only cut the plastic on one side of the bag. Also, how did the air not escape from that bag when it was not attached. Please help. If I am mis-seeing I apologise but I am quite panicked.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, I'm having a hard time visualizing the problem, but as far as cutting the hole, you have to use something very small/pointy like cuticle scissors or else you won't be able to get into the hold to cut.
      You should only need to cut the hole in one area, where the vent sticks to the bag. It can be easier to poke a hole through the vent, once it's attached, and then cut afterwards.
      Can you explain how the fold is not able to get through the base plate? Send me an email with a photo if you think it can help: info@veganostomy.ca

    • @thewisepowerchair2369
      @thewisepowerchair2369 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VeganOstomy I phoned Respond, who provide these vents in the UK. They use a laser to cut the hole.
      Another problem is when I poke a hole through the vent through the plastic, and twist the scissors to make the hole larger, when I withdraw the scissors the plastic springs back so all I am left with is a tiny hole which expels no air.
      Currently have tried the pelican bag. Will be trying another bag. I am wondering if a better method will be to cut a small hole in the plastic of the bag and then to cover that hole with the vent?? What do you think?
      I will let you know when I have tried other things.

    • @thewisepowerchair2369
      @thewisepowerchair2369 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Vegan Ostomy, I further spoke with Respond. This time they told me they do not use a laser. They cut a hole in the plastic of the ostomy bag and then stick the vent over the hole.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a bit of technique involved with cutting the hole cleanly (so there's no plastic left over), but it does require long and skinny scissors, like those cuticle cutters. If you're able to post this question to my forum, and perhaps include a photo of the scissors you're using, we may be able to provide some more tips. Many of the users on my forum use the EZ-Vent.

    @vegan ostomy, I have just got this video from kem. I have also tried sensuro mio one piece. Sticking it on the back like that does not work as the bass plate will be in the way.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Provided that the vent is still being stuck to the bag, it shouldn't interfere with the baseplate, even if they are touching.

  • @yehudit33
    @yehudit33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there any risk doing that? as in having output come out?
    Thank you so much

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Ez-Vent is pretty reliable, however... if you have liquid output or loose output, then you'll want to do your best to make sure that the vent bottom is clear of any output before you open it. Because you are placing it so high up, this should not be a constant worry.

  • @briancarter8262
    @briancarter8262 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you not get output to come out of the osto ez vent? I attached like the video and instructions from osto ez vent and I’m getting output through it. How do you cut out the hole not going through both inside layers? Thanks!

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Brian,
      Cut the hole on the top of the bag (as shown in the video) where there's only a single layer. That's the best way that I've found to use it on this bag.
      Unfortunately, due to how the EZ-Vent works, output might still spray if it's near the vent when you open it. I try my best to clear off any output (by using my fingers as a squeegee from the outside) before opening the vent. Best of luck.

    I am using the coloplast sensura mio products but I also use the colomajic liners. Got a few samples of the ostoEZ-Vent but it does not seem to work with a liner. Is there a way to use a liner and the EZ vent?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be tricky because you'd have to put holes at the top of the liner to allow gas to escape into the bag, then you'd use the ez- vent to evacuate the gas from there. I haven't done that personally, but that's how it would work.

  • @flowerpetals1396
    @flowerpetals1396 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you fold the bag and pierce the hole? Surely that creates a separate hole that can leak. Why not pierce a hole through the vent where you originally stick it?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean create a hole from the opening of the vent rather than cut it out from the back? The reason why I do it like I do it in the video is to clear out the plastic completely from the hole. If you just poke a hole then it can get messy or clogged.

      Thanks for the link. The short, curved blades seem ideal. I bought the TRIM cuticle scissors (#10300) locally and I plan to return them. You get what you pay for. They're too tight and must be oiled to prevent rust. Stainless steel would be better. Seems like Amazon reviewers complain a lot about scissors made in Pakistan, which includes these. I'll have to try a more expensive pair. :-)

      It's definitely worth getting a good pair that you don't have to maintain all the time! The Coloplast scissors I use to cut my wafer have been perfect for over three years - I use them with every wafer change + I've used them to cut medical tape on many occasions. You can't use them to cut the tiny hole for the EZ-Vent, but they are amazing for wafers.
