Americans tend to use both autumn and fall to describe that season, pretty interchangeably. :) When naming this one, Autumn was the best choice to make it clear for everyone what it was referring to (and it's just a prettier word, hehe).
We call it both Fall and Autumn. I live in Florida. Fall is my favorite season from when I lived in North Alabama as a kid. There it got cooler and the leaves were so pretty! Here in Florida, there really isn’t an Autumn. All the trees are evergreens and it doesn’t get cooler until everyone else’s Winter. The only thing we get for Fall is peak hurricane season. I even had to explain to my kids why people call it Fall!
