Funny how some watch these to learn something then are the first to pick at piddly stuff. Thanks for your videos
Kenny, i love your videos. I learn a lot from your videos. i too am a mechanic. Stop apologizing. You dont need to do that. To heck with the hatere...I'm just sayin.
Thanks so much for that. Keep wrenching 🔧 Kenny
Well done little Kenny. You always explain everything so well. Keep wrenching!
Thank you for the kind words & watching the channel. Keep wrenching 🔧 Kenny
i always mark with a black sharpie where the coolant is at cold level and with a red marker when at hot level after a short rest, i do this for my daughters vehicle and the grandkids and then say check your oil ONCE a week and then check this coolant level as well along with the brake fluid level as well...do this and it could save you a HUGE repair bill
saw the leak in the first video at 10:05 I believe it was...we all miss things from time to time.
I just done timing cover on my ram and i never use any type of lubricant for the front main i just ran it dry like everything else and no problems. i kinda think its not something you have to do and ive never seen a spring come out of a seal. But its ok it shouldnt hurt a thing adding some lube like you did. You still do good no need to explain yourself kenny all the time. there will be people commenting and sometimes its negative but dont let that get to you.
Whats funny is the timing cover didnt leak til i changed water pump twice. first one failed in 400 miles junky products anyhow the timing cover is mostly held on with water pump so makes sense. my advice if you own a hemi just do timing cover gasket when you do pump and yes i know the balancer must be removed but i highly recommend it especially on higher mileage ones.
Last resort you can add black lite dye for small hard to find coolant leaks too....
Great video....I always enjoy your videos
Thanks for watching, keep wrenching! 🔧 Kenny
If I remember correctly those Pontiac engines 3.1, 3.6, 3.8 they have 90° plastic elbows with O-rings coming out of the block and going towards the firewall for the heater core they are notorious for leaking. 👍🏻
Right below the alternator.
If you are referring to the coolant elbows that was the 3.8 not the 3.4 or 3.1 but that is a good thought. My guess is timing chain cover gasket.
@sethschackmann6200 thats what i wasn't sure of. I just remember having to change mine on my 05 GrandPrix Gt
Only the Buick engine , the Chevrolet engine is different design
The haters and know it all's on the internet will always be a wonderful source of entertainment for me. If any one of them ever bothered to come to North Carolina and actually do business at good chance that they would have nothing to say but there's a good chance that they have a go on the internet and say it anyway. Your shop is really a treasure and you are always busy I mean always always always busy I could come there Friday morning in the middle of a snowstorm and you would be backed up with cars on the roof... You are really an awesome mechanic and whether I get my transmission drained bolt loose by myself or not I'm going to take this car to you anyway for service. Let them provide the entertainment I'll get the popcorn you get the soda 🍿
Haters and trolls, only happens when you have a good channel. Jealousy
@jthonn 💯
I would put know it alls in the same category
I seen that leaking yesterday!
Yes Kenny, those 3.8 are known for external head and intake leaks. Also the 2 L shaped plastic elbows are known to crack and fail.
It's not a 3800
Nice job once again Kenny.
Wow 😅 Good morning Mr Kenny. Its raining here, so I guess it'll be headed your way. Hope y'all have a wonderful day 🎉😊
When ever I made a mess on the floor we were always out of floor-dry!!LOL
That engine also has the plastic intake gaskets that leak coolant inside and outside the engine
I bkought a Grand Am for my son for $700. It was cheap because they couldnt find the coolant leak. It turned out to be the waterpump. It was a PITA to change (4 cylinder) but it was solid after that. Knowing how to do your own wrenching makes cheap vehicles affordable. Not worth it if you have to pay a shop.
It's always satisfying to fix a problem yourself! Keep wrenching 🔧 Kenny
Made a lot of money putting intake gaskets on those engines.
I've had my fair share of those jobs! Thanks for watching & keep wrenching 🔧 Kenny
Now that’s video gold, watching a floor get sprayed! Just messing with ya Kenny.😅
Just a curiosity question, do the codes in your part of the world, require that all the shops floor drains be plumbed through an oil separation system? Thanks for another enlightening video!
It varies from state to state. Sometimes, from county to county. It's bananas here. All of the water goes into a holding tank. Then, it goes to an environmental waste company for processing at a waste management facility. Where are you from? I've never been asked that question before. Thanks for watching. Keep wrenching 🔧 Kenny
@ Rapid City, SD. I spent 27 years with a healthcare system in facilities operations and construction. We not only had to install oil separation systems in the power plants, and the garages, but a snow melt recovery and separation system for the helipads. Bananas 🍌 is the perfect adjective, for describing how crazy it has gotten trying to stay in compliance with all the layers of regulatory oversight.
It’s a 25 year old car still in daily use. I’m sure it has some issues. Those 3.1 types were good once the intake gaskets were replaced. Don’t use DexCool for 150k unless you want to shovel it out.
At the 1:30 mark, I saw a green drip moving. Looks like Kenny missed it
I was watching it drip down the side of the timing cover in your last video.
I saw it dripping there in the previous video too.
I saw that also but to be completely fair it’s POSSIBLE that the light from his phone may have moved just a touch so the light moved making it appear that the coolant was leaking down or something to that effect. I do agree with you. It looked like it was leaking to me.
It did kind of look that way, but the engine was so funky and had coolant all over it, hard to tell.
What happened to taking the filter off with the drain plug out
Same with the oil filter,I had to fight with one that was on tight. The last person must of tightened up the oil filter with an oil filter wrench instead of hand tight
Going Bananas 🍌in the way you say it reminds me of the old King Kong arcade game 😅
I used PTFE thread sealant on an engine cover bolt that had coolant coming from it a couple days ago. 2006 Mitsubishi Raider 4.7. I was waiting to see if that coolant was from something like that.
Dunno what happened but can't hear much of anything in latest videos, audio level is very low and muffled. Also, I think you missed the coolant leak where that drop was near the back of the motor, was definitely dripping down from the top somewhere. What is the brand and concentration of the degreaser you use, is it something like purple power?
Thought you said always change the oil filter b4 you put the plug back in the oil pan. Is that piddly stuff?
GM 3100 always leak oil from the intake manifold
That particular GM engine are known for intake leaks, the plastic rubber gaskets crack and migrate
Rust proofed? 😊
Keep in mind, if you wash off the engine before you start working on it, you lose any evidence of a leak.
A dirty engine will show you any potential issues.
The reason is, a leak can migrate, so just because you have fluid collecting somewhere, you may have no idea where it's coming from. Wash down the engine and then you will hopefully see the actual origin of the leak. There are also powders you can use on a clean engine that will change color when subjected to a leaking fluid.
get soapy water and spray your your tool to check it for leaks
Non-related but I have a thump, thump, thump when I apply my breaks on my left front pick up. Rotate? Pads, both?
"don't go 🍌 s" would be a great logo on a t shirt .
You need some swag !
Is the Water pump is shot, Kenny
Kenny, you removed the red wire near the coolant overflow tank, and forgot to reconnect it
It was aftermarket amp that he didn’t like
And earlier in vid, he showed how it had been melted, and didn't want it to short out and maybe cause a fire. The owner asked him to check it !
Look at that ancient Pontiac with almost no rust. Vehcor in shambles.
There was a cute series of videos my children watched with little animal characters in a town.
There was a gorilla character who
drove around in a car shaped like a banana. Of course his name was
' Bananas '
Sorry Kenny, but every time you would say that it made me think of Bananas Gorilla and his bananamobile.
What's the point of using a suspect leak down tester? Not a hater, just asking.😊
never completely trust any tool. they are all man made not god made so there is a chance something can go awry
7-8 psi lost in a finite amount of time. Is it car? The gauge? Or both? Gauge isn’t suspect, until it is.
Over tightening drain plugs is the first thing you learn in shool cross threading and rounding off the heads is only for the pro,s
In mid 1970s I worked in auto parts store in Detroit. We carried a special universal oil pan hole plug.
We sold a lot of them.
They taught us that the proper torque for drain plugs is 6 uga dugas of a 1/2" impact gun, or 14 from the 3/8".
@@ottopartz1 correct
@ottopartz1 😂
@@andrescheuer4400 in school shop I learned that more than one person doing oil change means no one put the plug in to strip it in the first place.
Great videos but you really need to get a clip on mic. I have a difficult time hearing a good percentage of your videos.
He had quite a but of background noise from the others in the shop, while making this video.
Everybody has their own work to do !
Wth is a motor? So is a tesla a engine?
Something Kenny uses to find new viewers - welcome!
a tesla is a bonfire , looking for a place to burn !
The whole engine should have new gaskets
The leak isn't fixed, it'll be back.
Kinney you could eat lunch off my engine and it has 168 k on it 2014 dodge journey
I get triggered by the guys who dive at severely rusted hardware without spraying with anything.. living in the north we know
If you're a top rated mechanic, then you're only as good as your test equipment. If you suspect your test equipment is leaking, dead head it and test it. Don't just throw it back in the drawer like a DIYer would do.
"don't go 🍌 s" would be a great logo on a t shirt .
You need some swag !
I'm working on it. I need a trademark lawyer & they aren't cheap. Thanks for watching & keep wrenching 🔧 Kenny
