Thank you Dave so very much for these trips back in time. It feels like these commercials were on our TV yesterday! Kind of like my son was born a minute ago, and yet he'll be 25 this year!
Man! Those APR for new cars seemed awesome! Who would want today's interest rates of 0% - 3% when you could have had 5.5% - 9.9% based on these commercials? Good times! :)
healthy eating with Crisco! well, Loretta Lynn says it be so! also, so many airline ads! i dig the one with Gene Kelly & Fred Astaire. i think these airline ads were the result of deregulation of the airline industry that made flying affordable for a great many people. also, a few commercials for long defunct stores like Miller's Outpost (i think the last nearby one to close was about 15 or so years ago. it was located in Lake Tahoe), Kinney Shoes et al. interest rates for new & used cars hovered around 7% which is quite high for today but was a substantial lowering of cost in 1986 compared to the very high inflation of the early 1980s. what a trip back into time! another killer set Dave!
32:53 Phantasm, a nightmare...an illusion...an evil like no other...a fantasy...it's ALIVE...what ever it is, if this one doesn't scare you...you're already DEAD
soon as i saw the limos i knew it was for grey poupon! 'Pardon me. Do you have any Grey Poupon?' totally tattooed onto my grey matter. so much so that i have become so sophisticatedly elite i keep a jar of grey poupon in the glove box of my car to this day!
The VCR is nearly twice the size of the TV screen. Even worse, it's a Betamax. 15:59 Pay for five years on a Colt hatchback? That had better be a good mink coat. 17:05 Loretta Lynn made a quiche 30:45
> - 17:47 - 18:17 - CREST Toothpaste TV Commercial [“CREST. The dentist's choice for fighting cavities.”] > > > > - 24:06 - 24:36 - JIF Peanut Butter TV Commercial > > > > - 31:07 - 31:52 - FOLGERS (Instant Coffee) Crystals TV Commercial With Bryan Clark - served at Maison Robert Restaurant in Boston (Massachusetts)
I can't believe I have invested this much time watching retro commercials. Picturing 20-30 years from now, people intentionally watching 5 second Liberty Mutual ads or NordVPN plugs for fun.
1:08 It's maybe not as wild and exciting as today's Taco Bell promo direction, but it seems the name of the game was the same even in the 80s: Court the young people. You're not an old traditionalist like your parents.
Never heard of a Kinney, THE GREAT AMERICAN SHOE STORE, in my life. I don't think I was alive yet when Cabbage Patch Kids dropped, but I've heard stories about people throwing hands in parking lots over them. 11:01 You can't tell me they spent more than 20 bucks making that Valley Nissan sign. 11:33 - 13:00 What the blue hell was that? Never knew commercials for junkyards were a thing. A lot of airline ads in this episode. Damn near every other ad is one. That flying orb thing from Phantasm inspired the Cerebral Bore weapon in the Turok games.
I really miss Mandarin Orange Slice, the best tasting orange soda ever, if you remember it like this comment, so I know it's not a false memory Mandela affect type of thing. I'd like to see an ad for that product.
I wonder if there are still shoe stores where the salesmen get to handle the ladies feet ....I'm looking for a career change and that sounds VERY intriguing.
That Kinney commercial is basically glorifying Al Bundys profession lol. Sheer Energy's theme sounds like early New Edition songs, loved that only 10% real juice was a smart marketing strategy, Cost Plus Imports commercial was all over the place but cool, Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire in a commercial was cool, that Camera Wizardry commercial was a trip! The Tic Tac lady basically created Tik Tok lol, and "there's only one, 2 " tag barely makes sense. Yet again, so many Oil commercials! You have to cringe a bit anytime Bill Cosby hands a woman something to consume
Love watching these old commercials. 1978-1995 was the best era for commercials.
Thank you Dave so very much for these trips back in time. It feels like these commercials were on our TV yesterday! Kind of like my son was born a minute ago, and yet he'll be 25 this year!
These are some killer ads Dave! Thanks for the retro bump! 😊✌️📼🧈

I want to go back … I hate this world we are living in now
Don't complain about it
I grew up in a very small town in Missouri, I like seeing the local commercials from big cities. Shows me what I missed out on! 😂
11:01 I actually had some neighbors who used to be from Dublin, California! 😲😃😄
Oh Happy day ! Thanks for a new /retro episode Dave!
🍺🎥📼

Crisco was a heavy machine lubricant before it was a cooking oil.
So....the "$29.00" hotel room was actually $58.00 per night.....16:17

Why does screen text generate buzz? Used to happen on one of our 1970s TV as well, but very pronounced in this set.
Can bill Cosby stay for dinner?….yikes here try my jello with the secret ingredient.
I wonder how long it took to make a commercial back then? 🤔🧐🤨

I still remember the Christmas morning that my first Cabbage Patch Kid, Elroy, was waiting for me in my stocking. I still have him.
Mr. Shoop! "Summer School." Way before NCIS 03:40 👀👀
I dislike commercials back then, now in my 40's watching them lol thanks
It's not so much that you like commercials now but that it's reliving the past.
I really miss Mandarin Orange Slice, the best tasting orange soda ever, if you remember it like this comment, so I know it's not a false memory Mandela affect type of thing. I'd like to see an ad for that product.
Taco Bell's Nachos Bel Grande were good when they used REAL ground beef...

You don't want that job, just ask al bundy. Ever watch that show. his customers were some real porkers.
Having had sold shoes years ago I can say it’s not what you think it would be. Don’t get me started on the colors toe fungus can create……..
was that Ed Begley Jr with the huge moobs and bleached hair eating Breath Savers?

Kinney owned Warner Brothers for a period around the 70s.
Dave's not here man!
OOOHHH !
Mix grey poupon with ketchup…you’re welcome
Did no one notice that the guy in the Taco Bell commercial 1:08 looks like Hitler? Guess that didn't occour to Taco Bell either.

Nachos Bell Grande seemed to taste better in the 80's. Maybe they weren't using powdered dry meat yet.
That Tic Tac lady looks like she should've gone off too bigger things. Was she a famous model or something?
i live in northern California ktvu was my child hood
