      i stumbled across his videos and he reminds me of everyone's tight dad on a road trip half an hour in and someone asks to pee, BUT ONLY in urban videos. then its more like a sunday morning hike with your dad after he got into a fight with mom.

    This is one of my favorite episodes of some asshole lost in the woods. Every beginner botany freak can relate. Brilliant exploration of the flora. How can we learn new plants if first we don't know them?

      Honestly, I get the same way in tropical wet forested areas. I'm a botanist in a temperate region, and the plant diversity is so overwhelming in the tropics. I end up getting excited when I figure out just the families of some of that stuff.

    This video goes hard!! Nobody expects you to know everything about every plant. You're real in the field, saying what you know and what you don't. This vid gives off a chill and immersive vibe which is needed for such a diverse environment. You're good fam, we love the authenticity!

    I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying this series. I lived a couple of years in the DR but more toward the east (Monte Plata).     As a plant nerd who also knows the common and latin names of the plants i would say that the best part was the bird noises. I was between being relaxed listening to the birds and laughing at your jokes. You kill me man. 😂

    I enjoyed that you brought us along without knowing everything you were going to find. And as a non-botanist, I wasn't interested in anything more than the basic ideas, like 'look, here's an orchid'. And for those who were interested, you added many of the names on the screen, so it was all good.

    I'd love to just sit in that Fern Forest, listen and watch. If I had a good cold beer while there then more to the experience. Not sleeping well, not eating well (I've tried but you can't make your stomach always to follow protocol), I'm right there with you Brother.

    This is more along the lines of what I enjoying hiking in, pretty similar to here in Costa Rica. That hot dry stuff is interesting, but the sun kicks my ass if I'm out there all day.

      I was looking at a winter growing ground orchid, the top side looked a bit sick, which is normal, underside was just brilliant purple!

    You should do a city one were you walk around some local parks or drive by some or whatever it would be cool to see you go from city to city showing us what there doing and tell us if there doing more harm then good with what there planting or growing with farms.     Man... Thats crazy, I live in a central part of Brazil, the native vegetation around is called ''Mata Atlantica'' and a lot of the plants that grow here are shown in the video. Dominican Republic is really far away from here, more then 5000km according to google

    I know your username is "crime pays but botany doesn't" but would you recommend it as a career path?
    I recently found your channel in the midst of questioning my career choices and botany seems like a pretty awesome career path.

      Easiest thing to answer that question is to Google Botany jobs in your area.
      But i would assume there is only Nursery jobs, which pays minimum wage. And i also assume you want to get paid more then $15 or so.

    I have sent links to your videos to three different people. None of them have replied. The English are so fucking reserved that you have to shake them to make sure the bastards are still alive. Would it kill you to relate once in awhile? I studied with a botanist in NYC who “threw out our fucking seedlings” by accident. Great guy.
