- At FlightSimExpo 2023 in Houston, Jorg Neumann, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Sebastian Wloch, CEO of Asobo Studio delivered a presentation to the community.
We're living in a world now where when I was a kid playing MSFS 95, we could only have dreamed of what we have and clearly, what is to come! Fantastic to see Flight Simulators becoming as popular as they are thanks in no small part to MS and Asobo.

This is truly revolutionary to the aviation industry. As we need more real life pilots, Flight Sim 2024 is going to inspire a whole new generation of young pilots! Can’t wait to lose myself in the world of flight Sim/aviation.
I give them all the credit already. NO BODY has ever done ANYTHING like what they have done before. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

@@timsmith5980 You know what, you sound like one of those perma depressed avsimmers that act like all other sims are perfect. No sim is perfect from the getgo. Xplane/P3D still carry Bugs after decades. Doesn't mean the platform is unusable. 2020 has matured a lot, and while there's work to be done and things to be added, it's stable now. 2024 will build upon that, profit from the last 3 years of insights gathered and be a lot more stable from the start. Besides, the whole msfs team encompasses 500 people now, they hired a lot of talent. Good things ahead.
This and the A2A announcement of their imminent Comanche release(July '23) is some of the best flight sim news I've heard in a long time.

Same here man. Won’t work for me over Bluetooth. It’ll work over my phone speaker just fine. No problems with any other video or music.
For me, TH-cam and Twitch had *extremely* low volume/distortion so bad the sound was inaudible.
I found that my audio was set to Mono mode. I disabled Mono mode and the audio is fine now on YT and Twitch.
Must be the way it was encoded.

When you think msfs can't get any better, you drop this announcement. I hope VR is part of the msfs2024 :) I'm not a hardcore simmer, but I enjoy occasionally flying in VR over places on the map. The fact that the landscapes are now going to be even better with really improved flora and fauna is truly the best news for me. Can't wait! :) Thanks to the entire team!
Looks incredible! Hope machine learning could be used to improve colors of the landscape imagery where needed as well. Another idea: water waves should be affected by water depth and proximity to land / shielding. Calm water downwind behind an island for example. Would make a big impact in visual realism for all scenery with water 😊

Key statement at 10:34 that gives reassurance to current flight simmers. "...And we're all doing this by staying backwards compatible. We're keeping the same old community folder. Everything is still going to work. Addons are still going to work. It's just that we're moving more of our stuff up in the cloud..."
Really awesome stuff! I really do hope we'll see a couple more improvements though.
Improved ground and gear physics. Especially for double or triple bogie gears. More contact points.
Improved water physics.
3D Weather radar.

I’m simply a flight simultor casual, but I’ve played this game more than any other game in 2023. The presentation, the level of detail, everything is just so perfect. I’m so hyped about the new game
Sounds great! I only see one minor problem: This whole thing about new world azure generation depends on the quality of the satellite image. If theres only a blurry texture or no texture at all like in some areas in Northern Siberia, this whole rock and tree replacement and colour adjustments shown at 16:22 won't work. There will be again ways to change the data source to Google Maps or ArcGis but the Azure Machine learning thing will only work with the default Bing data. For 90% of the world it will work great but I am curious how they will handle these very remote but potentially beautiful areas. I hope they will buy new satellite data for these regions. It's out there, but not on Bing Maps. I would love to see the ArcGis data as the new default for Siberia, China etc in MSFS 2024.

So happy MS realized after ditching Aces Studio maybe flight sim isn't such a bad thing after all and how Asobo has showed us what is possible and how they continue to evolve and impress.
After enjoying this hobby since the first version of MSFS saw the daylight was it 40 years ago and even before that, I'm so happy and grateful being able to experience what we have today. Truly amazing!!
Similar MSFS2020 preview videos showed the promising stuff that was coming. I find a lot of that stuff is still flawed in 2020. Why should I buy 2024 based on the same promises?

Obviously fs2024 stole the show and everyone on TH-cam is probably speculating on what some of those updates that Asobo is working on will be. I'm really really really happy that they are addressing the flight model and that there will be more aerodynamic surfaces in play. Also did Asobo throw a slight hint to possibly a damage model? (With their self collision comment) great presentation and please give us a fully functional g1000 cocpit (full study model). Asobo is giving us so much with this and I'm 1000 percent upgrading.
The damage model is not going to happen, they already addressed that a long time ago, they have licenses from Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft manufacturers to not include breaking of planes apart or something equal, if Microsoft would do that they would be in big trouble and license to use these planes in sim would be revoked, my opinion what we might see prob some smoke or fire at max.
I'm going to be a total beginner with the 2024 edition. Can anyone tell me where to start? Are there recommended tutorials?
FS2024 looks pretty amazing. Some excellent ideas.
It would be relatively simple for the AI to see where there are roads and just add some nicer 3d-game engine roads that you can actually drive on. Another major point is that grass and ground needs to look better.
and here we have simmers that find out how amazing 2024 is going to be, and as usual they "assume" it is simply "easy" to add 3d roads and then complain about other stuff (that are actually already great)
it is easy to deduce these days thay the sim platform you want cannot and will not ever exist.....

The 720p really shows off the game.
I don't know how Cloud can be "less loading times" when even a 1GBit connection is 5x slower than a SATA SSD and 20+ times slower than an M.2 NVMe. I have a big NVMe, let me download everything if I want. It will be faster to load things than using the cloud.

Turn the airport light off during day VMC.
I wish they add more clouds structures (cirrus, stratus, cumulonimbus…) and they change the sunsets and sunrises colors (more blue like in the real life). Currently the sunsets and sunrises in MSFS are purple and the clouds are too red at this hour which is not realistic.

33(!) updates. And then some dare to complain that the MSFS thus far has been empty, or some sort of open beta. I have throroughly enjoyed MSFS over the past three years and it has reignited my passion for aviation.

the Ford Tri-Motor presentation was a disaster. Reminds me of some of the epic fails with Microsoft presentations over the years and with other devs. (microsoft surface, etc)
Looks great and I commend the team for their work and vision but can't imagine the NASA type pc power one will need to run it smoothly to its full potential. Love the franchise, been a fan since the beginning but not gonna take out a mortgage loan to build or buy a pc to run it properly.

@@yta7777777 Much obliged for the Audio tip. Yes, mono was on in volume settings menu. I never had an audio issue watching other videos till this one had an issue.

Yeah, that was a real bummer for me too. There’s larger cities in Texas that need attention. Most of the ones they chose are really not worthy of photogrammetry. Disappointing

Yeah nice ofc, but i feel we should've gotten this with FS2020. Fs2024 is basically what Fs2020 should've been from the getgo. Fs2020 was a testrun for the real product. I'm happy and thankful for the continued development, but i also have mixed feelings.

@@peter-mv5gk No, peter, it isn't exactly an exaggeration. Maybe some things are 24 exclusives, but many things they said 2020 will have, 24 has but 2020 doesn't have yet. So before launching a new sim they couldve updated 2020 to that standard then done the new thing. Ofc nobody said that 2020 will be abandoned, so thats that. It's great news and i'll purchase it, but yeah, the point stands.

Ok, well, that’s definitely better than I hoped. BUT, Asobo, there better be better ground and water physics in this too, along with a lot more reliability and better design decisions as well.
I’m thinking water for sure seeing the oil rig and boat!
@@pilot4211 all we saw there was the usual water graphics and something that COULD be a canned floating animation for the ship, nothing there gives us an idea that water physics for the aircraft with floats will be improved.

@@marchatzimanolis9309 sure, true enough but I’m not ever holding my breath with Asobo, considering their track record and this is something that should have been there (along with not having worse ground physics than the previous then 14 year old FSX) at the launch of FS2020.
@@WhiteHawk77 this exactly, they can't even get atc to vector to a fix but they are going to pull all this off. I'll patiently wait and decide once the guinea pigs go over it.
This presentation makes me feel somewhat better about MSFS2024. Wish there'd been something in there about improvements for VR simmers, as VR is the ONLY reason I decided to give flight simming another shot. HST, lots here to be excited about, particularly the improved photogrammetry of landscapes, which is the majority of what we fly over. Anything which adds to the immersiveness of the sim is a good thing. I would also like to see either a more user-friendly SDK system, or clear, step-by-step instructions on how to work with EVERY aspect of what it can do from a developer's standpoint. Hope the expo comes to Seattle in the very near future. This city is a major aviation center, and a very appropriate location to host this event!

Superb! I must say that on the face of it, what the team has planned for 2024 is far beyond my expectations and looks to be both figuratively and literally a “game-changer”. There have undoubtedly been ups and downs with MSFS to date, but I can’t count how many 100’s or hours of enjoyment I have had from the sim and to see this new golden age of flight simulation unfold, has also been incredibly exciting / satisfying.
Keep up the good work and a big thank you to everyone on the team, for all that you have done to advance our hobby! : )

alright.. i was a bit bummed back when i've seen the FS24 announcement, but actually that is fantastic stuff! Thinner client, keep min specs / improve on performance, add more detailed physics, activities, a more lively world, including (all kinds of) traffic and wildlife, give more freedom to 3rd party devs.. all of that plus more while keeping backwards compatibility? call me REALLY impressed.

@@MustafaGT Welcome to flight simulation buddy. Every new release means new things to test and roll out. Developers talk about these new and awesome features that have not been done before and they released it with the intention of refining it over time and bringing it to the next iteration. Same thing with X-Plane 12. The new cloud and volumetric systems in there are not the best or refined, but Laminar are continuously refining it even though it is new for their platform.
Simulating real world and complex forces is not easy and this sim is not like a game where the devs have creative freedom to do what they want to make a game look. These guys are trying to create a realistic flight simulator close to real life which means obeying the laws of nature and creating a system close to the real-world counterparts.
@@pilot.sergio4 while true, I would appreciate if msfs would be a bit more like dcs in that regard.. same client, but multiple physics overhauls / improvements, graphical and environmental improvements including clouds etc.. Basically constantly iterating and improving up to re-writing whole parts of the engine, but always keeping the same client. Obviously we don't know if that would even be possible with msfs, but given it's also iterations of the same engine I guess in theory it's possible as well.. don't get me wrong, thx to backwards compatibility I have 0 problems spending money on the new msfs in 24, but I don't think the way they handle stuff must necessarily be the norm (take IL-2 as another example next to dcs, albeit not as strong obviously).

Couldn't agree more - I was one of the many 'oh it's just a bunch of missions they're gonna sell at full price as a new sim' people when the trailer dropped but now I'm genuinely excited for it. Seems like all of the things I love about FS2020 (including my addons...) with the things I don't love about it (super long load times, inconsistent detail levels, dodgy AI and road/ship traffic and unrealistically huge trees) fixed.
I would love FS2024 but I got FS2020 and I don’t want to buy the new one for more and not use the old on, so I think FS2024 should be a discounted price if you have FS2020

Nice thing about 2020 is that it forced others to upgrade their clouds. DCS and IL2.. Maybe this will push them even farther.

This is incredible news. Any doubts I had about the depth of changes coming in MSFS24 and the reasoning behind it are thrown out the window. This is truly impressive stuff, and for this much attention and resources to come to a flight sim is mind-boggling, tbh. I just get that sense of incredible joy flying in MSFS, and this truly takes that feeling to the next level. What a time to be a simmer, seriously. And what a time to be a developer for flight sims. Thank you Asobo for bringing so much excitement and joy to this hobby. Your work and passion with your products is not lost on many in the flight sim community.

My audio is bugged and I cant hear anything clearly. Is anyone else having this issue? I havent seen ANYONE mention it. I can watch any other youtube video fine.
Audio is fine for me, sometimes some videos dont make sound so i just have to go back and click video again and its ok then, but its random
Using headphones from work, I can't hear anything. This carried over into a clip of this video that was shared within another TH-camr's video, and it was silent there too. There's something weird about the audio channel, maybe it's mono, I dunno. But I can't hear anything either. (And it's not completely silent - there's faint background digital garbage.)
This audio recording is some drama, it's inverted middle phase and if someone wants to watch it with a mono speaker, they won't hear anything xD
With MFS 2020 you did one of the most impressive improvements in gaming history. i will not fortget that, thanks a lot for your hard work

I was there is the crowd and couldn't be more excited to see the improvement 2024 will be getting. These changes are just mind blowing and we should be thankful we have people like Seb and Jorg at the helm of this amazing product.
Highlights for me today was Just Flight's A300B4, A2A's Comanche and of coarse MSFS 2024 with more clarification as to what is in store. Thank you Asobo for your efforts to keep innovating! Great news because FS2020 is getting really slow to load and world updates keep reducing my hard drive free space. If it can be streamed that would be fantastic! Will gladly pay for 2024.
