This anime taught me a lot about life. There are invaluable life lessons in every arc. I urge people who like this anime to read the light novels. They are really good. The author wanted to teach young people through his writing. Men like Sakuta do exist. We can be like him.
I hold this anime and its light novel series dear as much as I do with I Want to Eat Your Pancreas; the latter's novel is also good. It teaches you about how uncertain life is and why you should cherish every moment you have. I Want to Eat Your Pancreas novel states that the male lead's favourite book is No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai which is basically a story about a socially inept man just like him (MC) who was influenced by many unwholesome people which resulted in his living a tragic life (no one's ever really tried to save him). On the other hand, Sakura's (female protagonist from I Want to Eat Your Pancreas) favourite book is the Little Prince. It's basically a story about a pilot who lost his inner child-who was deprived of his joy of exploring the world and relationships-because of the seriousness pertaining to life itself. Fortunately, the pilot was later saved by the eponymous character who had restored the lost color to his world. Sakura and the male MC are truly opposite of each other. However, Sakura was able to save him by utilizing the short span of time that she had in a manner similar to what the Little Prince did to the pilot. Don't underestimate Japanese novels. They are life changing materials.
