The "buy once, play forever" + "horizontal progression" combo is such a powerful move since it eliminates a grand majority of FOMO in playing the game. It brings peace of mind to a small but persistent area in my head. In terms of combat, the dodge button made all the difference. As someone who play a lot of action games where dodging is mandatory, it felt right at home. edit: if the game hooked you and you care about the story, buy the complete package with all of Living World Seasons. It would save you the trouble of trying to earn gold as a new player who just reached level cap. Consider a single Living World season as more than half the size of an expansion, the later Seasons are almost as big and relevant as the expansions so I wouldn't recommend looking down at their value.
mounts give you extra skills, and you are barred from many areas before you get them and level them up. how in the world can you still call it horizontal progression? it is normal progression, albeit account based and you can only get it in certain zones.
@@kimrasmussen7188 The areas that require the use of mounts don't show up until you reach the expansion that adds them. Before that, you can access 100% of the world without them, you just can't make big shortcuts for yourself without help from a friendly mesmer who'll create a portal for you. So, for example, you have to go through a jumping puzzle without skipping it. And if there are some events that require mounts, like holiday ones, they usually have a rental service nearby that let you use the required mount. It'll be without any upgrades, but it still lets you take part in those events and complete achievements related to them.
@@UtielTheHopeful thats not the point. its that so many people dont recognize horizontal progression, even after playing it. they are just repeating the mantra, despite the reality. its okay to like a game, but you have to like it for what it actually is. and the "horizontal progression only" is a myth.
@@kimrasmussen7188 Yeah, I misunderstood your comment. It seems a lot of people don't recognize that the mounts still operate on linear progression, probably because it doesn't go into a "bigger number is better than smaller number" direction. What comes the closest to horizontal progression is probably just changing the gear stats and your skills and experimenting with them instead of relying on just the "strongest" ones.
@@UtielTheHopeful really? i guess the jump height of the bunny jump doesnt quantify by numbers. never mind the fact, that you have to do the work to unlock them first. and the tail swipe from raptor can oneshot groups of low level enemies. like i said: they repeat the mantra.
The community! Never played a game with so many people willing to help just because. Shout out to all those mesmers providing portals, love you guys! (Unless you put portals under chests on the AB meta, then I hope the skritt steal your shinies!) If you have never played the game, give it a try!
The open world sold me on the game and is still my favorite part. The event system makes the world feel more alive than some other games. For endgame content, I think pvp is fantastic and criminally underrated by players (perhaps due to being underserved by arenanet). On the side I'm also aspiring to be the world's slowest and least focused completionist.
The open world + exploration + community is the things that keeps me playing. I haven't any other MMO that can deliver on these three together. Strangely most MMOs seem to focus their endgame on instanced content and neglecting the beautiful world you have visited while leveling... and speaking of leveling, because it is not part of the endgame you are usually on your own (unless you are riding a wave of new players, like when a new game releases).
It's an MMO without a monthly subscription as well. Meaning if you play it for 7 months, you saved $105 that you would have spent playing a different MMO. Meaning that if you stick with the game, it's one of the cheapest MMOs you can play.
That's a ton of content for this game, got 2 friends in recently and they are having so much fun in core trials they aren't trying to rush to catch up. Little do they know how exciting it gets in HoT forward.
I bought it after playing for only like 2 hours. I saw that huge world boss in the swamps and joined in, died a bunch, but the horde of 50+ people all downing it and me getting to take part and still get loot even dying 5 or so times was a hook for me. I’ve been playing about 2 weeks now. It gets better every time I login. I just started Fractals. I’ve done 3-4 and they are so cool. I love how fractals themselves are like puzzles, not just the boss having mechanics and annoying trash pulls you have Facebook your keyboard on like WoW or ff14. Such a fun game! Can’t wait to get into raid. I’m going to go for that after I get a flying mount and unlock some of the masteries.
As a player play GW2 when its release on Steam, I really like the open world, the jump puzzle where a number of people literally try their best or waiting for a portal, the meta events that's very fun, world boss kill squad that just roam tyria for loot and good times, random events in low lv area where Awaken pouring out of portal and a bunch of other player also pouring into the map to help etc. I also like doing Fractal which is super fun and people in lfg is often very nice, someone literally gave me a +9 infusion because im so interested with the prospect of fractal and ascendant gear. And the achievement, theyre pretty nice and hunting is frustrating and fullfil even just for a spoon, plus it doesn't require you to look up guides on how to get this thing and such often, which I really adore. And the story is so good, it get to me when the fight against Zhaitan more ramp up, so many deads and poor choice of my own that makes me mad even tho it just an npc that with me for a couple mission. Now im taking a break, because grinding towars gears kinda get the best of me. Im also playing Destiny 2, and playing Guild Wars 2 makes me wish some of the stuff exist in that game. Im glad that I tried GW2 even tho i know the time commitment that I will need to give in, i never regret it
One of the other nice things about the game that wasn't mentioned much here is that each of the 9 professions/classes (8 in the free version) plays very differently. Want a tool for each situation? Try Engineer (literally) or Elementalist (magically). Enjoy deceiving your opponents? Try springing from Thief's stealth or fooling them with Mesmer's clones. Want a pet by your side to assist you? Check out Ranger and their pet or Necromancer with their minions. Want to be the bulwark for your group? Bring a Guardian's blocks or Warrior's high armor and health rating. The weapon swapping mechanic allows you to bring both a melee and ranged weapon (or whatever combination you please) to the fight, in addition to the heal, utilities, and elite skill you choose of your profession's selection AND its profession mechanic. The dodge skill is also available to everyone and is key to surviving, alongside your heal skill. It has a very fluid combat system with a lot of options to choose from.
Yup, and this is one of the biggest reasons why I switched to GW2 from FF14. That game is suffering from a serious case of homogenization where any class within the same role (eg, melee dps) plays almost identical to each other. It's freaking boring. Playing different classes feel like you're just changing the animation skin. Theres no haste, no stealth, no stuns and slows, no interesting buffs, and zero character build customizability. In GW2? I opted for the mesmer because I've never seen any class like that in any MMOs I've played, and boy is it fun. I can even put portals! Literally no way that's gonna fly in FF14 where all the players will cry about a class being OP if it's even a tiny bit different from one another. It's so damn boring.
I cant belive i waited 10 years to play this game, remember the hype when I was playing GW1 and heard about all features GW2 would have, 10 years later finally I can say that definitely is all what I was exited for and more.
@@carlocacho9150 life... The game launched when i finished collage, changed job to be a freelancer, and during all this time when I had resources to get a computer and buy the game i didn't had time and when I had time we'll you know... life 😅
Just bought all the expansions and still in the game for 6 hrs + now, is so good and is crazy that i hardly heard about it in the big circle of the mmos. really needs more marketing
Came from a game that I felt a lot of stress to be paying $50-$100 a month and be logging in every 8 hours or less or fall behind. Very happy with how much I get to relax and just enjoy the game w/o so much pressure that Arnet has set up for us 😍 And thanks for the videos as always Abree 💪
@@sadsylasmain7623 it's a vertical progression phone game called Monster Legends by Social Point. You can play for free, but if you want to keep up at all, you need to be paying real money on monthly premiums, in game premium currency, and growth progression for this month's monsters to replace the old ones. Then paying for the upgrades for the monsters. If you want to help your team on a top team, that will essentially require real money. For a top 200 team, you could maybe get by on team stuff w/o anyone paying real money. But yeah, I ran a top 150 team and paying $50-100 and not even keeping up with half of the new stuff. When I quit, they were adding more monthly premiums and more upgrade types needed to win. To have a big impact on a top team, I'm sure you could easily be paying over $1k USD a month. Don't pay or take some time off, you might miss a monster that makes the old monsters obsolete. So use your credit card and set your timers for every 8 hours or whatever to get back on your phone, so you don't fall behind. (Can you hear my stress as I describe it? 😅 very glad GW2 is horizontal progression and most of the stuff is QOL or cosmetics I don't need but I want to.)
Oh and kindof like instance content in GW2, ML required group success. If someone didn't have good enough monsters and upgrades, didn't spend maybe hours per week planning strategy, or wasn't on their phone enough then the team struggled more and you personally might miss out on individual growth. Out of my team of 30, we lost a couple per month due to retiring/cutting back and kicked a couple more for not meeting some basic time expectations so the team could meet the goals I promised my members we would meet. Couldn't enforce even basic game strategy (like not putting life upgrades on a power monster or if the strongest member on the team leave the easiest opponents for weaker teammates) or I would have had to kick almost half my team. So trying to find the balance of how high of quality of people for team and members' individually success we could find without ruining the team and also trying to balance having a real life for us and them outside the game as well.
Same here. Was addicted and "I'm okay" for too long lol. Just like GW2, the people and the community are amazing and a big part of what makes these games fun to play. 😍 And especially when so much forced communication because everyone's personal success is dependent on everyone else, you spend a lot of time talking to them about the game and also about personal life, like how's their week going; how's their stress level doing. Came through with several life long friends 😍
Glad to find this after just starting! I used to play guild wars in middle school and well.....now I'm 30 and finally playing the sequel. It's really fun so far! Everything seems to flow really nicely, the game looks and sounds great, and I'm excited to do and learn more. While it would break the bank for me right now, I think 100 bucks isn't so bad for all the content you get and it seems gw2 respects the money you spend without invalidating your time. Also I remember how much Blizzard hurt my/my parents wallet in high school so knowing you all got ten entire years with 100$ is quite a deal. It seems like this is a company that tries to respect their userbase and makes the experience playing a richer one over time, not reliant on punishing you for not throwing cash at it. Great video man!
At first my target is just gonna have all class try it out by having 9 char with difference class, without me realizing I almost mastered all raid build class (dps, support, boons) and get the legendary armor while raiding, but time have passed and now I just like to do role playing and do some open world stuff. And also the fashion is godam good, grind gold to buy fashion is the way to go now
I love the world and exploring all the areas and the fact that you are rewarded for doing so is just the best. I also appreciate that the players time and effort is respected. I never feel like I am doing something that is going to be useless when the next piece of content drops. The player base in general is amazing, so many helpful friendly people. Such a drastic change from so many other MMO's today
I can't believe how much fun I'm having with guild wars 2 these days! I used to play it a lot when it first came out, but then I got bored and moved on to other games. But recently, I decided to give it another try and wow, what a difference! The game has improved so much over the years, with new content, features, and quality of life changes. I love exploring the beautiful world, doing dynamic events, crafting, and playing with my friends. The combat is still fluid and engaging, the story is intriguing and immersive, and the community is friendly and helpful. Guild wars 2 has become my favorite MMO again, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for it!
Heads up - major deals on the GW2 site for anyone who still hasn't got it. I'll never forget playing for the first time in beta in Queensdale. I had no expectations. I saw a huge group of people running in a direction, followed them down into the swamp...and when that massive shadow beast world boss spawned, my jaw dropped. I don't think I've had an experience like that in a video game since.
So many years have past and im still addicted to this game🙂 I love that this game respects my time. Can stop playin, come back year later and my gear still matters. More than that this game is so alt friendly like no other. To those that never had a chance to play it, give it a good go and im sure you'll be suprised. It's a different MMO compared to others but in a very good way IMO.
As someone who played 5 years with swtor beginning at beta and starting wow at legion, the horizontal gear is soooo nice. Being able to at least craft what you need, when you need it is a quality of life that cannot be had in most games. Swtor wasn't as bad as wow but frustrating grinding weeks for a single piece of gear
Dude this is an epic video just got my sub I'm one of the currently aying guild wars 2 player who just wanted to hear what some random guy on the internet has to say and I love what you had to say man you pin pointed everything I love about the game
Been playing this game since beta and to this day the primary thing I do is still just open world meta events even thousands of hours in, with a healthy side of wvw. I think that alone speaks to the sheer quality of the game. And if I ever get bored? Well I could always get into raids, or actually get good at pvp. Excellent game and I highly recommend everyone give it a shot.
The reason why I love this game is because in 10 years time on and of playing this game it gave me friendships that carried on in IRL. And al the stuff you touched on in de vid. :-).
The freedom to pick and choose what to do without the pressure of keeping up is a great feature that keeps me coming back. I don't have alot of time to dedicate but I still always look for people and communities to join up with when I can. I find Gw2 really easy for this as well .
I'm glad there are still people making videos and loving this game. I could never get into it as much as I wanted to because I'm god awful on mouse and keyboard and would die consistently just trying to pass enemies on the HoT areas.
HoT is brutal, but they definitely learned from their mistakes there. They stopped designing everything for group play and made the subsequent releases more friendly to traverse on your own.
A small thing for me that really have me liking GW2 other than everything obvious good is that at max level you still gain exp for a end game currency, the game has this playing and doing things for exp is a good thing all game long! And i like that.
Hi Abree, Great video for people wondering if GW2 would be worth playing. I've been a follower of yours in-game and a member of [Life] guild for a long time. Keep up the good work.
For story nerds that want to immerse themselves a bit, here is some recap of Guild Wars 1 and setting the stage for Guild Wars 2: th-cam.com/play/PLNIrrxKmHofwVUz0QQkRHh-eKgCTOF9dB.html + th-cam.com/video/g35ug27Iz34/w-d-xo.html + th-cam.com/video/O4c02x0h2U4/w-d-xo.html Then I suggest to just try the free GW2 base game, earning ingame coin you can spend on gems (to unlock Living World story seasons) after Personal Story: chapter 1 to 4. Setting the Stage + 30 Ascalonian Catacombs (first dungeon level, recommend you play this after the Personal Story chapter mentioned to the left of it) chapter 4 + 48 Caudecus's Manor (the dungeons focus on Destiny's Edge, a group of dragon hunters that got famous sometime between the Guild Wars 1 and 2 games) chapter 5 + 55 Twilight Arbor chapter 6 + 63 Sorrow's Embrace chapter 7. Forging the Pact + 70 Citadel of Flame chapter 7 + 76 Honor of the Waves + 78 Crucible of Eternity chapter 8. Victory or Death (arah story mode final dungeon, this is also where Destiny's Edge NPCs you met in previous dungeons come together for helping you) After this you can proceed to Fractals of the Mists (a new kind of dungeon) and Living World season 2 then on to the first expansion and its Living World season, etc. One thing to note: Lion's Arch (the capital city) used to look different during Personal Story before Living World, you will see this in some brown-colored flashback story missions. Ideally you would only see the old Lion's Arch until you actually finish Personal Story and the relevant Living World episodes, but I guess ArenaNet wanted to avoid world phasing.
as someone that has played since the beginning, I 100% agree with these points. original game + Living world season 1 completely free with (minor limitations) Expansions + living worlds seasons which equal what i consider an expansion and a half of content is amazing. once you reach max level you're there, your character build and stats will never become useless but but youll always have both cosmetic and abilities to play for and mastery are more like legend of zelda weapons or video game unlocks in platforms. honestly if you havnt played an mmo or want to try something with alot of easy to experience content and youll really love this game,
The game isn't holding me hostage where I have to justify my time. The game is free of FOMO and allows me to do anything at any time. It also makes all progress feel worth it. I don't stop doing strikes or raids 4 months before an update because the new raid release will make my gear grind useless. It doesn't in any way force me to play it, but I choose to because it's fun. Also, just traversing and grinding in this game is fun. The mounts are amazing. Got my beetle 2 days ago so I got all mounts now.
Great video! I just returned to GW2 in Oktober, after not playing for almost 10 years. I don't know why I never carried on playing back in 2012, cause I was really hyped for the game initially. Well, glad I'm back now, thanks to a friend motivating me to try it again :) For me, the best things are horizontal progression and the events/quest style. With other mmos I felt so pressured to keep up to other people. In GW2, I just do what is fun, set my own goals and can still do endgame stuff and group events. And I'm really invested in the story and all the characters by now. I think it's the perfect game for working adults with a lot of other hobbies, that still want to play an mmo, invest time in progressing a character and a story, but still want it to feel relevent even if they can't play for a while. GW2 is perfect for that I think.
I've played almost every mmo under the sun. There are many games that implement systems to force players into daily chores, never-ending gear treadmills and constant "Forced Balancing" to promote alt creation. Guild Wars 2 respects your time with it's horizontal gearing systems. You can leave the game for a while and return and your items will still be relevant. The community is very helpful and communicative. There are players that have open groups on LFG allowing players to join and teleport to them bypassing difficult jumping puzzles. You can find many mesmer players helping new players with their portal to reach difficult locations when they don't have access to mounts yet. It's also the only mmo where I truly feel that every map is alive with something going on at all times of the day and unlike majority of other mmos where it's just a means of levelling and never returning. Some large maps are so big and structured to have multiple levels, you can sometimes find your-self lost and needing to way-point back if you don't have a skyscale or griffon mount. Also this is the only game where mounts are more than a means of transportation and a necessity to completing some activities such as springer ground-pound ability for some heart activities or reaching other-wise unreachable restricted areas, such as the Jackal portals and roller-beetle breakable doors or just traversing dangerous terrain such as using a skimmer to float over quick-sand. With the implementation of fishing in the latest expansion, players are now given a semi-afk low-intensity gold farming method for those that wish to multi-task other things. All achievements, fashion, mounts and mastery levels are account bound making alts much less of a chore. There are races which involve mounts of all types such as very fast drifting style racing with roller beetles, races with elevation with springer, underwater ones with skimmer, super-speed flying with griffon and many more. There's so many hidden areas all over the game some you will find, how-ever most you will most likely miss unless you have a keen eye and spend time exploring. The variety of activities that you do while levelling is diverse and unique from anything else I've played. Gone are the days of kill x amount of this or fetch x amount of these. The large-scale events in this game, are truly 'Large-Scale'. Make sure to adjust your graphics settings accordingly because meta-events with full maps can get quite hectic. Fractals [GW2 Mythic Dungeons] implements many other activities which require thinking and not just killing mobs, such as unlocking locked doors, dodging traps and jumping puzzles to list a few. World vs World is the closest I've felt in an mmo to being in an actual large-scale war, you need to experience it to believe it. PvP has it's ups and downs with constant balancing, but the great thing about PvP in GW2 is that you just need to complete the tutorial and you can start pvping straight away, you will be scaled to max level and all gear is equalized. Raids and Dungeons are what you would expect from any typical mmo how-ever arena-net seems to have more focus towards other game-modes such as Strike-Missions and WvW at the moment. Dungeons in GW2 are unique in a way that you can choose [vote for] multiple routes to complete the dungeons leading to different paths within the dungeon and culminating in a different boss fight at the end. Strike Missions have been added recently and are basically Raids without the Mobs, basically boss-rush mode for players who a searching for difficult pve content but are short on time. Every year there are festivals for every season that introduce even more large events and group social activities which players can participate in to earn unique rewards and fashion unlocks. The mastery system in GW2 doesn't increase player power but rather quality of life improvements and accessibility of certain systems. Fashion in GW2 is very diverse, I've seen almost perfect imitations of super-heroes, real life celebrities, cartoon characters, characters from other games and so many weird and wonderful looks. You can also dye your mounts to match your fashion as-well, leading to some epic looks while mounted. With infusions you can modify your looks even further and create effects which complement your fashion. You can be as dark as night itself or a walking disco-ball, most people tend to not go to those extremes but I have seen some looks that I can never forget. GW2 is known in the mmo community as the game that does everything different, sometimes something different is what you need.
I've been coming back to this game repeatedly over the last several years and then bouncing off after a couple months bc I get tired of playing alone, so I'd say it's pretty much essential to find a guild and get involved so you can make in-game friends. That's what Im going to try to do now, as I get ready to come back yet again.
Great video! These are a ton of good points. And I totally agree, I hate spending money to play games. GW2 just really gives such great value for your money, the time you get out of every dollar is fantastic. Not to mention that there's no content that feels absolutely necessary, but every piece of it does give very unique experiences, bonuses, and items. But I'm still gonna play wow because I'm physically and chemically addicted
I'm kinda done playing the game and currently only logging in for dailies to eventually get all the account upgrades. However it was a nice 1,5k ish hours that I don't regret. The world exploration was what got me into it. It totally supports what I usually do in games (unlocking as many WPs as I can before doing anything else). Getting the mounts was also cool. And I enjoyed the meta events a lot (fav one probably being Octovine or the DE meta). I also really loved failing over and over on Soo Won right at the point of release. It was a fresh experience, because all the other content was so easy. I genuinely loved the idea that you wouldn't just get everything for free. It probably took me a good 20-30h getting the kill. But it felt rewarding. I kinda wish they had more of that kinda content. Even most CMs are too easy sadly. Great game, that IMO just lacks a bit with innovation and endgame
I actually stopped playing btw because IMO the final 1% grind usually isn't worth it. I feel like a lot of people playing their "main game" just do so at some point because they are used to. It's not about the fun anymore. And I didn't wanna do that. In the last few hours I basically just didn't progress anymore. I don't need the best of the best if that mean I've gotta do endless grind for a bit more visual effects or 2% better stats. It's fine to enjoy your time, and stop once it's becoming more of a daily routine rather than the excitement you've had in the beginning.
@Vebzzz done that for a long time too. Probably passed the 600h mark before even paying attention to anything but exotic gear or build guides at all. The game is really forgiving, but that's also not always a good thing IMO as I feel like there needs to be more challenging content that NOT everyone can do. Just scaling up fractals or CM doesn't do it for me. Some dedicated events or smth like that which would require "skill" would be cool.
@@maxzett I can't disagree that PvP (and WvW in my opinion) can get boring and repetitive, which is one of the reasons why I don't play PvP, and only do the minimum of WvW to get more Gifts of Battle to craft Legendary weapons. But the topic of my reply was regarding player skill, and I think that GW2 does a pretty good job of providing a game mode that is totally dependent on player skill, for those players who enjoy and are interested in testing their skill against other players.
It's good to note that old content is still popular content. Even the oldest map paid for will have some farming happening, because the rewards are really good.
The leveling and the exploration were the things that made me like this game so much. 2nd it was seeing mesmer illusions shatter into butterflies. Found a nice guild and started to do fractals finally, yay :)
I played Guild Wars 2 on release many many years ago and just came back a couple of days ago and it's been awesome. And I say that has someone who isn't the biggest MMO fan.
Just stumbled in to add my two coppers' worth. New player and tried the free trial and fell in love. Bought the Heart of Thorns/Path of Fire Bundle and still not left the Core Map. My Necromancer is now a Power Reaper completing the Core Map like a murder hobo and I'm still getting enough Hero Points to unlock Shouts! But here's an example of what I LOVE. New map area I want to clear and an Event is underway: taking out the Flame Legion. So my Reaper and Flesh Golem Minion go help protect the Char laying mortars at 6 sites. This chains to helping another Char lay 3 explosives to take out the walls. Chain to the Blood Legion charging in to take out 3 Shamen. Utter carnage ensues. Chains to the Big Bad Shaman at the top of the tower doing a Ritual. I charge up there and lay into him and he knocks me off the tower almost killing me. But the Golem is still up there fighting him so back up the stairs I go Shouting "Your soul is mine!" (Reaper Heal) and just manage to kill him before the timer ran out. No other players around, just me and NPCs. That's what I love. Mission chains you can do alone with a real risk of failure. Seen others taking on such things and I've waded in to help. So if you're on an EU Server and spot a mad Human Reaper busting dance moves waiting for the next link in the mission chain that could be me. I'll get into the proper advanced stuff eventually (still need some Trinkets) but for now I'm happy running around Core like a hyperactive toddler and incidentally unlocking new Utilities. Unlike other MMORPGs I've played this game is not a chore. It's maddening, frustrating(looking at you, Jumping Puzzles) and confusing (why is the last Point of Interest in every Zone accessable only by a hidden underwater tunnel?!) but most of all it's FUN. Best £12.99 I've spent in years.
Thank you for giving some voice to this amazing game, life has been not fair to GW2, is such a great MMO but with no diffusion, there are a few streamers only in twitch, not many content creators in youtube, but i love the game and it is amazing!
jeremy soules music beatiful scenery ( even to this day imo ) and open world exploring sold me to this game, i actually played it for many years on and off before i even did my first dungeon or anything considered "endgame" i simply leveled chars and explored.
GREAT VIDEO! I am casual GW2 player since 2015 - and i was diehard wow fanboy for over a decade....but I say this.... IF you like MMOs GW2 IS MUST HAVE GAME!!! GW2 is how MMO should looks like tbh...
Anet is planning on adding many more smaller sized expansions and even more stories in GW2. I've been playing it since beta, escaping the WoW constant grind to the next level BS. I like the fact there is no subscription model and you have the option of purchasing what you want either with cash or in game gold and no pay to win feature either. Especially like accomplishing quests without having to do the old find the guy get the quest, do the quest, return to the guy to get the reward BS. The dynamic events are also great along with the metas. Been dabbling in WvW lately and the battles are fun. Those dynamic jumping puzzles are my weakness, but there are ways around them. Love the mounts (best of any game, period).
Great video, thank you so much! Just my five cents on one of the points you have mentioned: In fact, GW2 was the first game where I experienced a huge FOMO - back in the days when Living World, Season1 hit. This made me quit back in those days and go back to Guild Wars 1 - but luckily they overhauled their system for the followup-seasons. I am basically in an on-off-relationship with GW2 since its' release, have all the expansions and LW-seasons unlocked and can very confidently say that GW2 is the best value game I've played.
Great video!!! Will add that the pvp is nice, as the WvW (kind of pvp mode), and the fact that all servors are more or less merged into same world (kind of, there are several instances of a same map if too much people in) makes that there are no empty servors :)
I'm pretty casual and like to fish, do some events, achievements, fashion wars, seasonal holidays and metas. Even super casual players can get their ascended armor set if they really want to which is nice. I've taken some significantly long breaks in the game too, but have been playing regularly again for over a year now.
here just to see what a random guy on the interweb has to say about it lol. been playing gw2 on and off for the better part of 4 years now, always a fun time when i get on, plenty of events that happen throughout the year, never a struggle finding parties for fractals, raids, and strikes, and almost everyone is down to offer a hand in topics that you could be stuck with. all in all the game is probably the most underrated and fun rpg that exists, and it's all ftp with the choice of buying 1 of 2 expansions that will allow you to unlock new areas & mounts, complete new stories with unique rewards based around that story, and much more. it is the most versatile, free flowing game anyone could play imo. come and go as you please without worrying about lost rank or being left behind by friends who play more. amazing game.
Hey no my rush friend, had the same issue with many games or even factions/classes within one, and i usualy just end up getting over my issues with time. Had the same issue with fallout new vegas, wanted to play the amazing story but couldnt get over the old graphics and clunky gameplay, gave up for a couple of years then one day i get to urge to try again and boom, almost finished the game before it started crashing too much x) All in good time friend.
Yes. Just yes, to everything. Yes. Also love the random heroes that ress me when I jump to my death from a vista cos my glider didnt open cos I have a potato pc.
i played wow for 13 years.. i quit 2 years ago then spent a year trying new world, then final fantasy then i tried thhe free version of GW2 . around level 40 i knew it was my new favorite game and bought all the expansions . i love my reaper.... doing metas running around with tons of people killing dragons then next time i log in go beetle racing and its like a complete different game.....another day go do WVW and have a server pvp war.. I know im weird but i enjoy fishing in gw2 and will fish a 24 hour cycle and just chill. gw2 has tons to do keeping boredom away, its great the there's no need to race through content and i know my pink gear is no better or worse than anyone elses so its player skill and knowing your class that makes you good or bad.
LOL WHEN U SHOWED GENSHIN CLIP 😂😂😂😂😂 ngl i actually came from genshin - not to say i plan on dropping it but i was kind of out of content while waiting for the chara i want's banner to come in 3 weeks - plus getting resin gated on the daily is such a gatcha thing *sigh* i actually played gw2 back in 2016-2017, logged 2k hrs, crafted 2 legendaries, n then for some reason stopped playing. last year i picked up genshin for funsies, love it and all (im a low spender i refuse to drop $$$ for gambling on lol) but the lack of content... 😂 like for ppl who never played mmos with longer history, genshin might feel like a lot of content, but i came from gw2 and open world console games so...when i find myself with way too much time on my hands, decided to come back to gw2. really love it, and so happy my bifrost n incinerator are just as relevant today as before. so much story to play through, so much content, i dont have to control myself like i had to with genshin. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 now i get to juggle my time between the 2, and at least i dont feel annoyed at not havibg stuff to do in genshin anymore lol
THe Horizontal Progression is #1 reason for me why I play this game, or shall I say, why I CAN ONLY play this game. I have little time to play these days but I love the mmorpg genre. And most mmorpg games will require you to be online a lot. With GW2, I don't have problems with that since there's nothing really to catch up on. All my chracters are on exotic gears only. I have 600+ hrs in the game but I have played zero fractals, zero strike missions and zero raids because I only do open world content and meta! An oh, I don't have friends to played with but I've NEVER felt alone since there are dynamic events in the Open World and help is often times just a one map chat away. This is what Abree was exactly saying in the video - You can craft your own end game that best suits your lifestyle. This is why I'll be forever fan of GW2. This is why I'll forever recommend GW2 to others.
pro tip buy base game from gw2 site. wait for a sale you can get hot and pof for like 15 bucks often. then if you beat all those just buy the other DLCs as wanted.
Guild Wars 2 is a great MMO and anyone who likes MMOs or just open world games should give it a try. It has the best mounts in any MMO. I have nothing truly negative to say outside of its fading graphics. It's a solid game all around. Your point on healing is moot. Almost every MMO I've played (ESO, SWTOR, NW, DCUO, and many more) has passive health regeneration out of combat and easy ways to manage healing. All those have a "down state" where you can be revived too. You can't say GW2 doesn't have FOMO when if you miss a few months you lose out on a free story chapter and now have to buy it. If you play enough, too, you HAVE TO buy inventory space. Yes, GW does this sort of stuff better than most MMOs but it's not free of FOMO at all. I played GW2 hard, reached endgame, and found myself bored by fractals and the rest. I also had no clue what sort of equipment I was supposed to get or how to get it. Personally, I love housing and that's where GW2 failed hard for me and ultimately made me move on to other games.
I have heard criticisms of the combat that the hits don't feel like they have any impact to them. I get that. As a LB/GS ranger I wish they animated arrows and put more "oomph" into them but I still like the game hell of a lot.
It was devastating for most of the players in the trilogy GW1 of all 3 campaigns. They were made to believe GW1 could link the storage items and achievements into GW2. Instead, the early beta & play of GW2 looked like a mockery remix of WoW & GW1 combo.
Love the video, I always liked dual wield guns. I'm pretty sure that's what you had? Can anyone confirm which class was he playing and whether it was dual guns please Also what class would be best for dual guns ?
He was playing a thief, and yes that was 2 pistols, in this game you can use a combination of 2 weapons or a double handed weapon and also have a “weapon swap” wich can be another combination or the same with different “sigils” improvements that can do stat boosts or aditional damage, cd reduction, game is so rich try it
As was already commented, that clip was on a thief. The pistol-pistol deadeye build that I was using there is really straightforward and exceptional for solo open-world play because it has a lot of single target damage and generates a lot of its own boons. Adding in stealth to de-agro enemies and the ability to shadowstep makes it very good for world exploration. The only major downside to running that would be that you'd want a second build that's more suitable for group content and that would likely include different weapons. Pretty much all of the thief weapons are fun though. It's a class I've thought about getting into more than once.

Reason i play the game i do fractals dailies and work to make next leggie. Im a power untamed atm making raid armor and ring given i have Pharus LB Aurenes hammer LW 3 and 4 trinkets ad inf necklace from SOD and Conflux.
Best MMO to play atm out there.....Great game Great mechanics Best Mount system of all MMOS Best transmog collection of all MMOS and the best thing is that Games must co exist with your irl not the opposite....In GW2 the game respects your money and the time you spend. You will never feel you must grind or else u wont be able to play. BEST MMO
The best part of gw2 in my opinion is the different "playstyles" of the game it self. I love MMOs but a lot of them are very grindy so you get burnt out quickly. Some of them have way too much content that is either irrelevant or in even worse case, everything is important so u're either lost or it's too daunting. Some games are too casual to be fun. Also dailies in most of the games are mandatory if you wanna have any progress whatsoever. PvP is often imbalanced in a way that u pretty much get gear carried half the time. In gw2 its a combination of everything regarding content, the game is super balanced in any way. The end game is vast yet there is no pressure on you to do it all, i have about 500hrs in game and i did only 2 raids till now. The game is not p2w, you can play casually or hardcore grindy. The PvP aspect of the game is also very fun since in the arena, your main gear has no value and in open world WvW you can just run cheap exotics and still have fun. Overall best ROI when it comes to MMOs Also you can buy gems with gold and get living world seasons that way
1:04 there's one thing about it that isn't really true. I got my gf into this game recently and I didn't know that but she's got a Raptor on 10th level. The thing is it was locked behind a buff that lasted like 12h, so after 12h the game felt like a drag for her. Obviously this was made to make you purchase the DLC faster, but she really didn't like this aspect and who can blame her? This is a pretty reasonable "drop moment" if you ask me, especially considering how fun mounts are in this game. I know "back in the day" we had Raptors only after accessing PoF at lv 80, but now Arena allows new players to use Raptor from level 10 but only temporarily if they didn't pay which is lame imo.
@@Master10k2 yeah I’m at 1.6k and the most I’ve ever had was around 2.1k gold, but it has been pretty easy to stay around 1k for the last few years. I’ve crafted one Legendary of every weapon type and two Legendary daggers, so I’m probably going to start selling Legendary weapons in the future as a way to boost my wallets.
I am a huge BDO player , I have been eyeing this one for the last few months as another option. BDO is a game I will always love and come back to but at times I get burnt out and need a change. My question is does this game have PVP ? I am looking for something with no open world PVP because I already found my game for that and just want something for a more casual relaxed play. Would Guild wars 2 fit this ?
Well, I love vertical or however you say it progressing like WoW's got, but honestly, it quite doesn't fit GW2 ngl, there's SO MANY classes that gets switched around, some nerfed some oldies getting buffed and becomes FOTM, so having this kind of progressing is actually 10/10 also, if I feel like going for something cool etc for ascended gear, i can grind out the cool ass looking legendary armor and weapon skins, etc, etc. GW2 is definitely a "must play" imo, people saying it's dead is just blinded by some streamers who thinks the same, basically their viewers just being sheeps. Games ALIVE and you'll ALWAYS find people going around cus of meta and random bosses that spawns across tyria.
Fashion wars baby! but yeah imma PVE guy, so all PVE stuff that is fractals and below. Havent done much raids or higher lvl fractals since I never played GW2 for a extended period of time with a guild I found. Like you said, its the ultimate play and break MMO that doesnt penalize you for not playing. And yeah, nice gold in your wallet :D super jealous :P

i bought all of LW with gold and in a few weeks playing casually
It's a really good game, but unfortunately I got stuck at level 80, some people says that I have to some raids using a portal but I don't understand where is this place (I got path of fire).
I can't really follow what you're saying to be honest. There's Discords that can help you get into raids and other endgame content. I'd really recommend Guild Wars University, which does stuff for both NA and EU.
"Supports in Guild Wars 2 aren't something you just throw your friend on because they're not very good at the game yet." Not unless you want to make the game experience artificially difficult, at least. Supports are generally what more skilled players are on to carry the noobs. Anybody can eventually do enough damage to kill the monster as long as somebody who knows what they're doing is keeping them alive while they bang on it. Conversely, in most endgame content (raids, strikes, high tier fractals) the supports are the one or two players who can most often cause a total wipe by screwing up all on their own.
Communities get "toxic" when there is competitiveness and/or difficulty involved. Difficult PvE content, PvP and WvW all bring out the worst in people and the GW2 community is no different. Imo the community could do with being a little less chill and learn what break bars and CC's are.
I preferred the instances of GW1 to this. Just as you mention the combat on screen all you see is spell spam flare. How can ya tell what's going on. I played through the entire story, but never took to the mundane repeatable content, and don't get me started on collections..
Hi Peanut I too like you enjoyed the main game GW2 that I bought into game with the expansion Path of Fire and Heart of Thorns and the latest End of Dragons plus umteen crystal for buying stuff.
I think the thing thats going to annoy me is while i bought the game i did not buy any of the expansions so as near as i can tell i don't get access to any mounts, or so i have been told.
The leveling experience is *drastically* different to max level gameplay. Once you hit level 80 and get out of the base game the story stops being delivered in chunks every 10 levels and gets much larger in scope, map events get larger in scope and often involve an entire map's worth of players to participate and work towards a boss fight, and hearts become more background content to give way to map events.
@@UtielTheHopeful thats not the point.
its that so many people dont recognize
horizontal progression, even after playing it.
they are just repeating the mantra, despite the reality. its okay to like a game, but you have to like it for what it actually is.
and the "horizontal progression only" is a myth.
(Unless you put portals under chests on the AB meta, then I hope the skritt steal your shinies!)
If you have never played the game, give it a try!
Best community EVARR
Mesmer here. We do it for fun, no need to thank but it's appreciated. =D
@@MrPhyxsyus shut up and take my tip! xD
I must say, being kind especially to beginners is contagious in this game. Best community ever!
Np. I will provide you one on every AB meta run under the chest 😂
One day I'll get more than like 30k AP. We will probably consume GW2 in liquid form by then.
Join the club - I still haven't finished my first legendary despite playing for a couple of years lol.
Cries in Treasure Hunter never being doable (its actually doable it's just absurdly expensive - as in 'I can buy a legendary' tier)
Yeah that $100 price tag is shocking, but knowing that it includes EVERY content release for the last 10 years makes it not bad at all.
I’m going to go for that after I get a flying mount and unlock some of the masteries.
in comparison to Destiny 2 it's about $700 at minimum for the available content, and that's not including the seasons and dungeon keys.
what a refreshing take. thanks for being part of the community!
Im glad that I tried GW2 even tho i know the time commitment that I will need to give in, i never regret it
me mainly the no monthly subscription fee and the horizontal progression
I’m new but I still have a problem with the movement for some reason it feels weird to me. The dodge is smooth though
I cant belive i waited 10 years to play this game, remember the hype when I was playing GW1 and heard about all features GW2 would have, 10 years later finally I can say that definitely is all what I was exited for and more.
why'd you wait so long before playing gw2?
@@carlocacho9150 life... The game launched when i finished collage, changed job to be a freelancer, and during all this time when I had resources to get a computer and buy the game i didn't had time and when I had time we'll you know... life 😅

Just bought all the expansions and still in the game for 6 hrs + now, is so good and is crazy that i hardly heard about it in the big circle of the mmos. really needs more marketing
Raids , pvp , wvw , meta boss
They push rainbow political agenda pretty hard in this game. Maybe it rubs people the wrong way.
as a guild wars 1 and 2 veteran that plays on and off, this was really well explained for new players! well done
Came from a game that I felt a lot of stress to be paying $50-$100 a month and be logging in every 8 hours or less or fall behind.
Very happy with how much I get to relax and just enjoy the game w/o so much pressure that Arnet has set up for us 😍
And thanks for the videos as always Abree 💪
Very popular game and yet somehow still underrated, a rare high quality gaming experience in a sea of greedy awful mmo clones. Thank Xenu for GW2!
I'm gonna go log on GW2 now. Gem store sales, mounts + skins, LW seasons, mount racing, fashion, while traveling the world in a timely manner.
At first my target is just gonna have all class try it out by having 9 char with difference class, without me realizing I almost mastered all raid build class (dps, support, boons) and get the legendary armor while raiding, but time have passed and now I just like to do role playing and do some open world stuff. And also the fashion is godam good, grind gold to buy fashion is the way to go now
The people, definitely! All the people in my guild are beautiful people that will all go out of their way to help other people!
I love the world and exploring all the areas and the fact that you are rewarded for doing so is just the best. I also appreciate that the players time and effort is respected. I never feel like I am doing something that is going to be useless when the next piece of content drops. The player base in general is amazing, so many helpful friendly people. Such a drastic change from so many other MMO's today
nice video! good points made! love your content
Gotta love those metas.
Beating on dragons' feet, and bombing weeds (Auric basin meta) is fun.
Dude this is an epic video just got my sub
I'm one of the currently aying guild wars 2 player who just wanted to hear what some random guy on the internet has to say and I love what you had to say man you pin pointed everything I love about the game
Have been playing GW since 2006. I tend to take breaks from time to time but I always come back to it, it's my true love. This and Baldur's Gate 1.
If you play on steam it's possible to play it with a controller if you do some set-up.
@WhiteWolf I think I tried that with the steam controller but I think I needed to set up a new layout for each class so I decided against it lol
A small thing for me that really have me liking GW2 other than everything obvious good is that at max level you still gain exp for a end game currency, the game has this playing and doing things for exp is a good thing all game long! And i like that.
Hi Abree,
Great video for people wondering if GW2 would be worth playing. I've been a follower of yours in-game and a member of [Life] guild for a long time. Keep up the good work.
For story nerds that want to immerse themselves a bit, here is some recap of Guild Wars 1 and setting the stage for Guild Wars 2:
th-cam.com/play/PLNIrrxKmHofwVUz0QQkRHh-eKgCTOF9dB.html +
th-cam.com/video/g35ug27Iz34/w-d-xo.html + th-cam.com/video/O4c02x0h2U4/w-d-xo.html
Then I suggest to just try the free GW2 base game, earning ingame coin you can spend on gems (to unlock Living World story seasons) after Personal Story:
chapter 1 to 4. Setting the Stage + 30 Ascalonian Catacombs (first dungeon level, recommend you play this after the Personal Story chapter mentioned to the left of it)
chapter 4 + 48 Caudecus's Manor (the dungeons focus on Destiny's Edge, a group of dragon hunters that got famous sometime between the Guild Wars 1 and 2 games)
chapter 5 + 55 Twilight Arbor
chapter 6 + 63 Sorrow's Embrace
chapter 7. Forging the Pact + 70 Citadel of Flame
chapter 7 + 76 Honor of the Waves + 78 Crucible of Eternity
chapter 8. Victory or Death (arah story mode final dungeon, this is also where Destiny's Edge NPCs you met in previous dungeons come together for helping you)
After this you can proceed to Fractals of the Mists (a new kind of dungeon) and Living World season 2 then on to the first expansion and its Living World season, etc.
One thing to note: Lion's Arch (the capital city) used to look different during Personal Story before Living World, you will see this in some brown-colored flashback story missions. Ideally you would only see the old Lion's Arch until you actually finish Personal Story and the relevant Living World episodes, but I guess ArenaNet wanted to avoid world phasing.
as someone that has played since the beginning, I 100% agree with these points.
original game + Living world season 1 completely free with (minor limitations)
Expansions + living worlds seasons which equal what i consider an expansion and a half of content is amazing.
once you reach max level you're there, your character build and stats will never become useless but but youll always have both cosmetic and abilities to play for and mastery are more like legend of zelda weapons or video game unlocks in platforms.
honestly if you havnt played an mmo or want to try something with alot of easy to experience content and youll really love this game,
The game isn't holding me hostage where I have to justify my time.
One of the (if not THE) best community out there! Hands down.
You don't need to do this. There's people that love and care about you. They want to see you heal.
@@maxzett PvP is all about skill of the player. All gear is equalized and only the skill of the players can help you win or lose.
@@traveling.down.the.road56 done that as well. However PVP is a bit unbalanced class wise. Also gets boring after some time
@@maxzett I can't disagree that PvP (and WvW in my opinion) can get boring and repetitive, which is one of the reasons why I don't play PvP, and only do the minimum of WvW to get more Gifts of Battle to craft Legendary weapons.
Thank you , very much needed this
The leveling and the exploration were the things that made me like this game so much.
Just my five cents on one of the points you have mentioned:
In fact, GW2 was the first game where I experienced a huge FOMO - back in the days when Living World, Season1 hit.
Really nice video.Well done
I'm pretty casual and like to fish, do some events, achievements, fashion wars, seasonal holidays and metas. Even super casual players can get their ascended armor set if they really want to which is nice. I've taken some significantly long breaks in the game too, but have been playing regularly again for over a year now.
i started re playing guild wars 1, it is also really good!!!!!
here just to see what a random guy on the interweb has to say about it lol. been playing gw2 on and off for the better part of 4 years now, always a fun time when i get on, plenty of events that happen throughout the year, never a struggle finding parties for fractals, raids, and strikes, and almost everyone is down to offer a hand in topics that you could be stuck with. all in all the game is probably the most underrated and fun rpg that exists, and it's all ftp with the choice of buying 1 of 2 expansions that will allow you to unlock new areas & mounts, complete new stories with unique rewards based around that story, and much more. it is the most versatile, free flowing game anyone could play imo. come and go as you please without worrying about lost rank or being left behind by friends who play more. amazing game.
I never really been able to get into GW2, because of the Art style and i just wish i was able to get over that barrier, so i could enjoy the game :(
Hey no my rush friend, had the same issue with many games or even factions/classes within one, and i usualy just end up getting over my issues with time. Had the same issue with fallout new vegas, wanted to play the amazing story but couldnt get over the old graphics and clunky gameplay, gave up for a couple of years then one day i get to urge to try again and boom, almost finished the game before it started crashing too much x) All in good time friend.
I FORGOT HOW WHOLESOME THE COMMUNITY AND GAME IS. NOW I WILL RETURN TO IT AND GIVE ALL THE
PvP is king
So true. Love your review.
Guild Wars 2 is one of the best games ever 😊
Keep up the good work 😃👍
8:53 if I ever fancied myself somewhat settled and affluent after more than 10yrs playing GW2, this number sobered me up instantly
This is why I'll forever recommend GW2 to others.
pro tip
buy base game from gw2 site.
wait for a sale you can get hot and pof for like 15 bucks often.
then if you beat all those just buy the other DLCs as wanted.
I agree GW2 is the game you can always come back and have fun
No lies told! Thank you for such a great video. ❤GW2 &1 👍🏿
One of, if not the best MMORPGs around now. Top top game
I have heard criticisms of the combat that the hits don't feel like they have any impact to them. I get that. As a LB/GS ranger I wish they animated arrows and put more "oomph" into them but I still like the game hell of a lot.
I feel that way with eso. Im new to gw2 though so never tried ranger. Playing revenant though and it really packs a wallop 😅
Can anyone confirm which class was he playing and whether it was dual guns please
Also what class would be best for dual guns ?
What class and build are you using with the guns? Looks cool
Thief, Deadeye, if you mean the one I think you mean.

Overall best ROI when it comes to MMOs
Also you can buy gems with gold and get living world seasons that way
1:04 there's one thing about it that isn't really true.
Understandable.
really good video. surprised you didnt touch on the gold to gem converter more its one of my favourite features. means nothing is pay to win
153k..
And here's me thinking I'm doing good with my 1k gold
@@Master10k2 yeah I’m at 1.6k and the most I’ve ever had was around 2.1k gold, but it has been pretty easy to stay around 1k for the last few years. I’ve crafted one Legendary of every weapon type and two Legendary daggers, so I’m probably going to start selling Legendary weapons in the future as a way to boost my wallets.
@@traveling.down.the.road56 after 10years,i never reached 1k,but well,i hate to farm.
I'm an old casual player of gw2 but I feel like it's really hard to find groups for raids during the week (unless monday)
Definitely hard to find through LFG for sure.
Structured PvP and seige/capture PvP with open world maps are both available, but completely separate from the PvE maps in the game.
Ty that could actually work for me , I may give it a try.
GW2 out of any MMO has the best feeling combat in my opinion.
I love GW2 but I would be more happier if the game has some Priest/Cleric class. Like in Aion back in time
I no longer have the wrists for this game. Please fully implement controller support. Xoxo
Great video
i love gw2 and wow classic ^^ but gw2 respect more my time. My 10 years old elemtalist and hunter never dropped in his equipment all the time
Nailed it!
Hi Peanut I too like you enjoyed the main game GW2 that I bought into game with the expansion Path of Fire and Heart of Thorns and the latest End of Dragons plus umteen crystal for buying stuff.
I will love gw2 undoubtedly and play it everyday if I got 150K gold in my pocket🤟
Lol
gw2 open world is still unbeaten, can't believe no company has copied its formula yet
I think the thing thats going to annoy me is while i bought the game i did not buy any of the expansions so as near as i can tell i don't get access to any mounts, or so i have been told.
Do you mean you bought the game back in 2013? If you paid for something after 2014, you'd have an expansion.
@@abree107 I bought it when it came out. Whenever that was.
I am a new player, so far level 55, and I'll be honest, hearts and events got stale fast. I'm hoping there will be actual quest later in the game.
The story missions get a bit more involved later on.
