  • I'm still searching for a perfect example of one of these, but finding this sort of working unit for $2.00 at a HAMfest was a great score. These old 23 channel radios usually don't sell for much, even one's that have SSB mode, but in may cases these are some of the best radios out there.
Built well, and proven to stand the test of time, the Pace brand was a great line of radios from an era long gone.

I have a 144... Hooked up in a Honda Civic with a K40 (not K30) antenna. Can easily chat 8 to 9 miles in the Ozark hills of Arkansas. Continuly get positive reports. The guy whom tuned the radio for me after I purchased from a pawn shop, even bragged on it... Saying how well it worked. The guy wanted to buy it. I was convinced I must have discovered a true gem. Because he had about 5 other of the same model stuffed on a storage shelf. Thank you for sharing your CB memories and finds.

I love those old school cb’s! I have a Midland 13-882B 23 ch that was made in 1975. It still works as good as the day my uncle brought it brand new back in the day.

When I got started in CB back in 1988, my buddy's grandfather gave him a pace 144 and a an old radio shack base antenna to set up in his room. If my buddy hadn't had that radio I wouldn't have had anyone to talk to and may have lost interest in CB instead of getting into the hobby. Thanks for sharing this!

My first CB transmitter was given to me for my birthday in 1975 +/ -.
It was a Tenko transceiver, a 6-channel quartz.
After a few years, my father given my passion for CB gave me a CTE ALAN 747 (now MIDLAND), then very famous, but now practically unobtainable, there are very few images even on the internet. I remember very well that from the privileged position of my home, very high up, from Rome I was able to make QSO with users with QTH in Civitavecchia !!
I remember very well the RTX Pace and the "walkie talkie" you showed in the video.
Good times ... thanks for the good memories you brought back to me.
    Ciao.

Good video. The Pace 144 was an improvement to the Pace 143. The 143 wasn't a good performer. Pace then came out with the 144 which was a good performer. I was a big pace fan back then. My first 23 channel cb was a Pace 123A, later I purchased a 143 and quickly got rid of it. When the Pace 2300 40 channel came out I latched on to it. My first CB I bought in 1974 I think was a Radio Schack TRC-11 Mini 6B 6channel that you had to buy the crystals and put in yourself. Back then you had to purchase a CB license. Good times.

Eric I have one of those Pace radio's. I had mine given to me by a friend of mine. I had the 40 channel version. I did have a problem with mine. It had a bad squeal, all the problem was a rf choke that had a bad solder joint on the built in speaker. All I did was solder it back and it is still working. I have made quite a few contacts on it.

Pace made some great radios. My first multi-channel CB was the Pace 2300. Great radio. After Pace got out of the CB Radio business, they still sold some commercial two-way radio's. One was marketed as the Telemobile handheld portable, great performer, until it got damp, it then died. That radio was marketed locally as the Fire Talker, a cheap radio sold to volunteer fire departments, so not a good radio for fire scenes.

I have one. It needs cleaning. My grandpa and my father ran hams (also still has ham cards that they use to collect) and I came across this in my shed that I forgot about. Bought it from an antique place for $15. Came with the exact setup you have shown, pace mic too. I grew with the walking as well, but never got technical with them. Always walmart cobra handheld. Never knew how to use squelch or other features. I want to go further in that now that I'm getting older. What's a good resource to learn? And I can get you pics of mine if your interested to buy it. It does work.

Awesome video, I have seen the 122 and other pace CB's probably like the one you have, at Flea markets and Yard sales in bins full of other radios 2-5 dollars a piece never bought any figured they didn't work, If I find one in good condition and it's proven it works I'll let you know Eric.

Getting caught up on videos I’ve missed , anyway , I have parts radios with crystals from that same era , so if you need parts , let me know. Thanks! Just looking at this old girl brings back some great days in my early life. I spent a lot of evenings sitting at the highest point I could find out in Oregon talking skip on this thing. First with the gutter mount antenna and then with that great 102. It wasn't new, and it wasn't fancy, but it worked like a champ.

You always seem to have an unusually high noise level at your QTH. You should track that down.

    • @FarpointFarms
      @FarpointFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Solar. I have about 2200 watts here at the house that feeds my off grid power. That is the 1 bar higher than normal noise floor. Not really an issue as it goes away at sundown, and I hardly ever have time to play during the day anyway.
