In the province of Tawi-Tawi, this statement holds true as the Department of Public Works and Highways of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DPWH-ARMM) implement projects that improve accessibility in the province.
A road project in Bongao town, the capital of Tawi-Tawi, now ease farmers in transporting their agricultural products from Silubbog through the Lapid-Lapid Silubbog farm-to-market road (P 10 M).
The dirt track which permitted only Carabao-hauled carts during rainy season in now concrete paved, allowing farmers to transport their products faster and at a lower cost.
In Panglima Sugala, access roads are now also translating into better economic opportunities for the locals their as they can now travel to and from Panglima Sugala and the commercial areas of the province where they can trade their products or look for better jobs.
Exchange of products and travel of residents to and from Sanga-Sanga and Lapid-Lapid is now also improved with the recent completion of the Sanga-Sanga - Lapid-Lapid road (P 66 M) and bridge.
Residents from these areas now also have better access to commercial areas, ports and airports of Bongao.
Likewise, the completion of these projects signaled and propels Tawi-Tawi’s economic activities especially in support of its growing tourism industry.
According to the Department of Tourism of the region, in 2016 alone, tourists arrivals in province reached around one million.
DOT-ARMM records show that of this figure, 10 percent are foreign tourists while other visitors mostly from Luzon who are lured with the beautiful and virgin beaches of the province.
