  • Every year, the Eighth Graders are invited to share the field with their upperclassmen to play a selection of songs and get a sample of performing for the always large crowd.
This year, 407 students shared the field for the Halftime Show. The following evening, Saturday September 17th, the Firebirds won a caption award for best music and was awarded Grand Champion, their best showing in a marching competition in twenty years.

Thanks for recording this!! I was actually playing the flute. I was one of the eighth graders and my brother is a junior playing mellophone. My mom works with the band but didn't record it since she wanted to watch it instead. This makes up for my mom not recording it thanks! And I'm part of van buren

Aww, that's awesome, Kayla. I enjoy when they find reasons to get the bands together, but its always something special to see 400+ kids play their hearts out and blast Hang on Sloopy.
That night was the one and only time all four of our girls would be on the field together. Cas, is one of the Drum Majors and is second from the right as they lead the band while marching the Fight Song. She's a senior and this will be her last year. Brianna is a freshman and in Guard. She spends most of her time around the 30 yard line both in block and during the competition show. Rebakah joined them on the field playing clarinet and her twin sister, Rachel, played in Pit. They are in the Eighth Grade at KMS. So that night was especially momentous and I'm glad that my capturing it meant something special to you. I'll be certain to leave it up so you can share it with whomever you wish.
I hope you stick with playing and to see you in the band next year. :-)

Nice to know you enjoyed it, Kayla! I highly recommend being in the band, as it'll be a second family to you. I did it this year as a Freshman, and I enjoyed it, despite the downsides. While it will be tough and long, it will be worth it. For next year, I'm hopin' to shoot for drum major, and I managed to convince Brianna to get Cas to help teach me a bit. It only took about 5 minutes for me to learn Arrow and Strict in 4/4 and 3/4. I hope the band will continue on strong! As the 2016 Show, Tipping Point, said, The Little Things Make a Big Difference!

I'm definitely going to be in the band next! Next year will be my brothers last year in the band. When my brother is a senior I'll be a freshmen which is good to be in the same school as him again! It was nice also my brother literally was right next to me during the performance
