The Hu is a heavy metal rock band from Mongolia that uses traditional instruments and folk lore to make the amazing music. This song is talking about how Mongolia is losing itself.

Right from the start, even though the TH-cam post I seen announced MONGOLIAN METAL. never seemed metal to me, not heavy metal, hardly hard rock, just fantastic old and new fused traditional folk rock as we all know now is a new genre HUNNU ROCK

Western civilization as a whole is "losing itself," as is each nation of which it is comprised. Apparently, that's true of other nations and civilizations, too.
United we stand, divided we fall.

Mongolia is sandwiched between Russia and China... and China wants to expand. Over everything and everybody.. Just ask Tibetans and Uighurs. This is their "don't step on us" music..
One tough group of people. A good number of top Sumo wrestlers in Japan are from Mongolia. Good people.

The two-stringed, bowed instruments are morin khurr/horsehead fiddles and the guitar-looking instrument is a tovshuur. They sing in Mongolian and use Mongolian throat singing. You should try some of their other songs - all are incredible!

Thank you for the instrument info. I knew it was Mongolian throat singing as I first saw this band on their video wolf totem. Yeah they're amazing.

They're a Mongolian band, and the video (from what I can gather) was shot in various parts of that country. My interpretation is that the song is about criticizing the people who blindly boast about and take pride in the country's past greatness (Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, etc) but are too wrapped up in their own individual lives to bring the country/culture back to greatness. Again, I'm not Mongolian so maybe I'm just sprouting nonsense but that's my take.

You're spot on TBH. It's directed at both the people who are pretty selfish, and narcissistic and the government which is also corrupted so much.

Heritage is what anchors us all. If we lose it we will all just float around not knowing who we are. Also if we forgo heritage our ancestors fought and died for no reason.

Wolf Totem is a great song!! Think Sons of Anarchy mixed with Genghis Khan (who was as terrible as he was good, very interesting history, let's just say as a male you are very likely to know him as much as any other male on the planet )

    Filmed in Mongolia where the
    Hu is from.
    Try "Woman's Song" with
    Lzzy Hale
And "Sad But True" a Metallica cover.
    You will be blown away!

HU is pronounced "who" and means human. It's an ancient instrument, the Morin khuur (the horsehead fiddle). There are 2 string sets, one from male horse tail, and the other from female horse tail. There is a definite number of hairs for each set, I think it's 103 for the female side. You are said to have mastered the instrument if you can make the horse "neigh" with your bow across the strings.
Yes, I have too much time to let my brain wander during covid.🤗🤗🤗

Their breakout track in the West is called "Wolf Totem". Check it out, it's amazing. There's also a version feat. Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach which is equally brilliant.
It's Mongolia, of course. Ever heard of Genghis Khan? These are his descendants (along with half of Asia).

The song is a criticism of today's generation. One upon a time, Mongolia was the largest and most powerful nation in the history of the world. Like the song says, Mongolians should be living like kings, but our generation has squandered everything their ancestors have built.

This is about modern Mongolia losing sight of their ancestry.
It is a call to rise again, bring back the Kahlinate, as in Gengis Kahn, however, the Young Turks want to return to a sultanate, and I dont think anyone wants to see another Ottoman Empire, or a Mongolian kahnate. They were both fierce, fierce warrior nations that also fought the crusaders, and won.
It is a fascinating history, however:
There are many great Mongolian bands with videos on yt.
Mongolian throat singing reaches to the soul.
