What a joy to make this video together with, of course my dear friend Ilja Reijngoud, this time with a very special guest, my former student and great friend, the incredible Brandt Attema on contrabass trombone.
I'm also super happy with Marcel Serierse playing drums and percussion in this wonderful song.
What a fun arrangement by Ilja and what stunning playing by both Ilja and Brandt in this oldie composed by Juan Tizol.
Rectification:
"Perdido" is a jazz standard composed by Juan Tizol that was recorded on December 3, 1941 by Duke Ellington.

Loved it! Wonderful arrangement and terrific playing!
BUT
Perdido was written by Juan Tizol. He was originally from Puerto Rico and he also wrote the classic Caravan while he was with Duke’s band.
Especially disappointing since Juan was one of our trombone brothers (even though he did play valve trombone).

@@BenBasstrombone Perfect! Tizol joined the Ellington band in 1929 and sat next to another historical trombonist, “Tricky Sam” Nanton who developed unusual plunger mute sounds.

Juan Tizol couldn't improvise but could play anything written down; after he retired from Ellington's band he went to Puerto Rico and played in the Sinphony orchestra there!
