      His comments about Paul were the most surprising because it seems like common sense. Like you said, Paul's writings weren't supposed to be biographical.
      And now you've got me curious about the Dead Sea Scrolls. I think this video exposed how little I know about them, and it sounds like I'm missing out on some amazing history! 😄

      Same here! This verse sums it up perfectly and only hit home for me after I let go of my arrogance and pride: 1 Corinthians 3:18-20
      18. Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say,
      “He traps the wise
      in the snare of their own cleverness.”
      20 And again,
      “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise;
      he knows they are worthless.”

      The seed is there, but if the seed doesn't find good soil to grow, it's sadly his problem. Jesus is always at the door knocking, but answering the door is up to Bill. I pray for those who deserve it, because even Paul when he was not welcomed in a place, he would simply dust his sandals and walk away, why would I simply keep insisting on people who clearly don't want to know the truth. Their loss...

      I agree, and I get annoyed with atheists and even other religions that try to argue with Bible believing Christians very easily because of how foolish their words are trying to deny the truth that God exists or that Jesus is literally God incarnate like this all the time and many of them are constantly in the comments trying to be ignorant to Christians as well (they also try to claim that we are ruining their lives by preaching the Word to them when it's necessary to be saved), but despite that they're doing this, I try to remember that it is the spirit of the antichrist that causes this and it's not entirely their own doing besides that they made the decision to deny repeatedly, which only causes them to fall deeper and deeper, since Satan tries to provoke everyone's minds to turn them away from God and the Truth since he knows his end is near, that God will be victorious, and he wants as many people to be dragged down with him as possible.
      Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
      For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
      It's good for us to try to pray for the people that are spiritually corrupted like this, whatever their reason is (we all sin anyway, we can't escape it without Jesus after all and it's still difficult living as a believer because of that fault), since they are literally wasting their lives living in denial... I often need to be reminded to pray for them myself, and some of the commenters I see that tell us to pray for others are also very helpful, and I'm grateful to be reminded of that each time. God does show Himself in small ways like that too. Each time I think about where people go that aren't believers in the end, it makes me sad for them even if they're rude while they're alive since that fate is worse than death. So Bill Maher needs prayer as well. I hope he'll see the Truth before he passes away.

      There's truth, and then there's The Truth. The first one is relative to their pet belief system and they bend it to fit. The second will not bend and will not change with the times or for convenience. The first one will enable them to pat themselves on the back to feel good about themselves. The second will make you holy, however painfull. I would rather have The Truth.

      The definition of truth is that which can be demonstrated to be or describes actual reality. The Bible, both old and new testament is completely riddled with information that is objectively false. A God/Man born from a Virgin that performed magic and that was killed dead and then rose up from the grave alive 3 days later. These things are not based in reality. They are based in fable. Again, truth is that which is or describes actual reality. Just because you can say shit with a straight face does NOT make it true.
      The only reason people believe this story is they are told that if they don't believe this story they will BURN IN HELL. People will say about anything just to save their on bacon.

      The fact that none of the gospels record the destruction of the temple...prove that they had to be written prior to AD70. There's no way...a writer would not record when the destruction happened when Jesus clearly predicted it before His death. Can you imagine if Jesus was alive in 2001...and predicts 9/11...then in 2002...we record everything that Jesus said, but not record the attacks? The gospels had to be recorded shortly after AD33 and before AD70...much older than skeptics want to believe.

      @litigioussociety4249 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      Only secular historians push the later dates, because it's easier to explain away Jesus' prediction about the temple, if the event already happened when it was written rather than try to claim he was making a generalized prediction that happened to come true.
      Christians have generally agreed only John is written after 70AD. The Gospel of Luke in the 50s traditionally, since Acts ends around 62AD. The Markan priority view assumes Matthew was a little before Luke, and Mark was the earliest, maybe in the 40s. Q theory has mostly been rejected, before it was Mark was often dated around the same time as Matthew by Christian scholars.
      Regardless, thirty or even forty years is still within time for Matthew to have been a witness of Jesus. Moreover, most historical records are written much later than that for other things, some hundreds of years. Especially, for that time with Greek and Roman records.

      Fact!😉 I enjoyed all J.W. Wallace's books, especially "Person of Interest" I love Criminology (and Psych) and the way he goes about 'solving' the case for Jesus' life, death and resurrection like he solved his cold cases, particularly one where there's a murder but no body, is fascinating - and also very convincing! His books, and UTube channel/website are great resources for people who are almost ready to accept the reality of Christ, who He was (and is) and Christians who are trying to do what Paul tells us to - learn information we need to be able to give facts, reasons and/or justification for our faith, beliefs, and the hope we have in Christ.

      Tell us pleasant things,

      Christ the Power and Wisdom of God
      18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
      “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
      And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
      20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

    Not sure where Bill is getting that Paul's view of Jesus is different than the gospels. He also leaves out Peter wrote 2 epistles, James(the disciple) wrote 1, Jude, the brother of Jesus, wrote one.
    In fact, in 1 Cor 15, Paul gives an excellent summary of the gospel, and it lines up perfects with the 4 gospel narratives.
    Bill wouldn't last 5 minutes in a real debate with someone like William Lane Craig or Frank Turek pointing out these errors.

    The Gospel of Mark is dated to 70AD because in it Jesus predicts that the temple will be destroyed. As we know it's the first Gospel, we subsequently date all of the other Gospels in relation to Mark. This is a problem, because the book of Acts was written after the book of Luke, and the book of Acts doesn't detail anything after the 50s, despite some fairly major events happening in that timeframe, like the execution of Paul.
    So we are faced with a conundrum. We either take the evidence that suggests Luke was written before the death of Paul and reject it so that we can preserve the idea that Jesus' prediction of the destruction of the temple was invented after 70AD, or we accept the strong evidence that Acts and therefore Luke and Mark were actually written within around 20 years of the resurrection.

      It really is crazy when people will not acknowledge something as clear as this. It is easier to say 'they made it all up' than think about it seriously and consider the possibilities.

    A friend posted the discussion on Facebook and I was eager to watch it. That was a let down. The video was painful to watch. Distefano really did not represent the data very well, but Maher was just plane dodgy with the more-or-less true rhetoric. You could tell Distefano was distorting the facts because he didn't understand it, but Maher was distorting the facts because he had an agenda.

      This is my impression also. I think Bill Maher is scared of the Bible being true because he knows he led a degenerate life. I think his movie debunking religion was done mostly to convince himself that his debauched lifestyle was okay.
