The show is a BBC show, not originally Netflix - they 'bought' it in much later. The BBC is our state broadcaster. The show was on the second channel BBC 2 for the first 3 series (I think it was) before being promoted to BBC 1 as it increased in popularity and then became a massive hit over here. I watched it from the start on transmission and loved it (partly because I am a Brummie and according to my dad, his dad had a minor run in with the real peaky blinders with the gang wanting him to throw a boxing match so they could make money on the betting). There was a biggish gap between series. Tommy set up the whole fight with the Lees simply to set up the opportunity with Billy Kimber. He is constantly scheming/planning. I believe Tommy and Freddie fell out over politics (there's a hint in their conversation in the pub in the first episode). Tommy is a capitalist - he wants to make money for himself and his family and raise the family up out of poverty and out of Small Heath. Freddie is an idealist union convener and a communist. Tommy doesn't believe a revolution will ever come, and Freddie is selling the workers false hope. He says something like 'At least my horses sometimes win.'
Well... not *_every_* BBC TV series but yeah, definitely nothing to do with Netflix apart from buying the rights to also transmit it years after first airing on BBC2.
one of my favorite bits of these early "get to know the characters" moments is when tommy goes to pick up the coin and his brothers practically jump to pick it up for him. it's just one of those "oh shit" moments that 1.) shows how in charge tommy is 2.) the respect they have for him and 3.) their closeness.
Ooh, I never thought of it that way. I immediately thought they were coming up ready to fight for the insult dealt to Tommy! Different interpretation altogether. Peace …
@@pjb3583 yeah the reason i interpret it like this is they wait to "pounce" at the moment tommy goes to pick up the coin, like they're jumping to do it for him so he doesn't have to. regardless it's still such a cool moment between the brothers however it's meant to be taken. their dynamic is just everything!!
Just so you know, lads, Sheamus is from the Republic of Ireland and Sam Neil is playing a man from Northern Ireland. They're distinctly different territories.
Sadly Helen McCrory who plays Aunt Polly passed away while filming series 6 so it had to be rewritten. This is one of my favourite episodes, specifically the meetings with Campbell and Kimber. I love that Tommy knew anything treasonous would get straight to Churchill, he had no interest in getting in the papers, just wanted to show Campbell he can reach above him, what a power move!
Thanks guys 😊 I've watched this show several times but its such great fun to watch it with you! I'm looking forward to the next episode. I love everything about the show but I'm a huge fan of Cillian Murphy... he's such a phenomenal actor...he made some great movies inbetween shooting Peaky Blinders and he just disappears into each role! I'm a retired ballet dancer and I really appreciate his ability to do so much with such incredible restraint. I think the fact that he's such a brilliant stage actor really enables him to physically change himself in each role. That Peaky Blinders walk came from him. ..it was part of his bag of tricks to make himself more intimidating. He's clever!
Seeing you guys reacting to Peaky Blinders makes me rewatch the series again. I love lots of things about the series from the actors/actresses, the sets, the wardrobe, the dialogues, and the soundtracks. I dislike Campbell a lot but I admire Sam Neil because he can portray Campbell very well. I cannot see or sense Alan Grant from Jurassic Park here. The actors/actresses here are so amazing; Cillian Murphy is awesome too, as Tommy. I love Aunt Polly, she's so awesome and badass. No BS with her. RIP to Helen McCrory, who portrays Aunt Polly flawlessly. She also plays Narcissa Malfoy, Draco's mum. I can't wait for you guys to reach season two, one of my favorite seasons. The story gets better and better.
Can’t wait for you guys to get to season 3! The good thing is each season is only 6 eps so it doesn’t take a long time to get through em. The show will definitely get darker with each season though so be prepared for that 😅
@@sarahkelly473 you and @brooks4365 are right. I had to research it, that’s when Netflix acquired it, and cut it for wider distribution. However the same creator and BBC production team made the entire thing. My apologies! I love it either way, but appreciate the correction!
@@acecarwell471 And Netflix do not own it. They rent it from the BBC with a thing called a licence... A licence to distribute it outside of the UK... A licence which the BBC can choose not to renew once the deal runs out... Which they might do, as they now own 100% of BritBox outside of the UK... As they sold ITV their 10% share for BritBox in the UK, so everything is now on ITVX... While ITV sold BBC Studios their 50% share in BritBox International, for outside the UK.
There was a literal underground war on the Western front of WW1. The British and the Germans both formed units of men that were miners in peacetime. They dug tunnels under each other's trenches to plant huge bombs behind the lines. Both sides then started to dig counter-tunnels to try and intercept each other. If they met underground horrific hand to hand fighting would ensue with knives, pistols, picks and shovels!
Hard to imagine, but the cinematography gets better in this show! If you did a shot, every time you see a great shot, you wouldn't make it through the show! LOL
I'm so sorry ur in the hospital hon!! Ur always such a nice & kind person helping mod the comments & other vids! Il be praying for u that things will get better hon!! ❤💞❤️
For context since you mentioned it, Netflix had nothing to do with the production of this show. It's just another example of them buying the licensing to a show and slapping their name in front of it. It originally aired weekly on BBC. Once it's run was over, Netflix bought the rights. And just so you know, the show has finished but they are set to start shooting the movie, which is a continuation, next month.
Minor Corrections: The BBC own and still own the show. When the Royal Television Society RTS (an award ceremony which is picked by out of touch judges) decided to give it a "Best Drama" award, that's when Netflix took notice, at the start of series 2. Netflix only bought the licence for outside of the UK only, just like most American companies do with British shows. However Netflix and HBO especially, have a reputation for taking credit for things they have little or nothing to do with. Then when BAFTA (another award ceremony which is picked by out of touch judges) decided to give it another "Best Drama" award, and Netflix started taking even more credit for it, that's when people outside of the UK started to take notice, at the start of series 4.
@@danielgardecki1046 Exactly. A totally different show & only one series, but it reminds me of 'Bodyguard'. I remember loads of Americans on social media thinking it was a Netflix show instead of a BBC show. Smfh.

Sport (organisations, leagues, teams, sportspeople etc). Music (genres, singers, rappers, deejays etc). Radio (companies, stations, sister stations, presenters etc). TV (companies, networks, channels, shows, genres, actors etc). Film (companies, genres, locations, actors etc). I mainly used one group out of around three groups, which contained former admins with admin privileges, to help me correct locked topics, as there was or is no other way to contact Quora admins. There was one very useful former admin there, who helped me a lot. Whereas there was one current admin, who I kept seeing going around creating pointless topics on a daily basis, which only created problems. Most of the topics he created were the same as topics which already existed, except they had the word "specific" added, yet didn't specify what was "specific" about them. I did all that as I wanted to answer questions on those subjects in detail eventually, mainly the film & TV ones. In between fighting with bots who fought with each other constantly as they contradicted each other, and updating topics, I would also correct questions and answers too. Most of the questions and answers I corrected on a daily basis which weren't from Indians, were from the same people again and again who refused to be corrected. Where were those people from? The USA! They constantly referred to shows from ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, UKTV, Sky etc as BBC shows when they weren't crediting American companies for those British shows. Then Quora decided to ruin itself as: The former admins disappeared in the groups, as they stopped responding. The topics no longer have parent/child topics, can't be added, and can't be edited. The questions/answers couldn't be corrected anymore. Plus many many more things I've forgotten about. Therefore I'd wasted my time.
@@ameliacraiig4193 Bodyguard is an ITV produced BBC show. Not many people realise that fact, as ITV are rubbish at promoting themselves. ITV produce a lot of police/detective shows for the BBC, as that's what ITV do best, along with some period dramas. The same goes for things like reality shows for Channel 4 and Channel 5, which ITV also produce a lot of, mainly ones which involve Gordon Ramsay.
Also to clarify this is so high quality, well written with attention to detail because it’s a BBC drama. BBC dramas are always superb quality. Once you finish Peaky Blinders I highly highly recommend ‘Line of Duty’ also a BBC drama. The whole of the UK was obsessed Peaky Blinders and also with ‘Line of Duty.’
Those horses were really well trained...there will be another scene much later when Tommy has to shoot a horse and the horse is trained to fall down as it does! It's really amazing what they can be taught to do!
In this show, sometimes events that seem like random "situations", as you called them, are in reality just another part of Tommy's actual plans. You're right he is playing chess but he's not often reacting to single moves he's like 3 or 4 moves ahead.
Yes, Polly (Helen McRory) unfortunately passed away in 2021 due to breast cancer. She will forever be missed as both Polly Gray (PB) & Narcissa Malfoy (HP).
The real Billy Kimber was the leader of the Birmingham Boys (also known as the Brummagem Boys or the Brum Boys) were a street gang whose power extended from the North of England to London's underworld, between the 1910s and 1930s, Kimber shot and killed a Greek gangster in a London night club in front of a lot of witnesses, he went to America and a Brummagem Boy working for a Mafia boss took him in, Kimber shot someone who owed him money and went to Chicago where one of Capones men with Brit parents took him in, he eventually slipped back into England settling in a seaside resort town where he became part of the town council living out his life there and dying of old age.

If youve never seen Cillian Murphy aggressive watch Anthropoid.. he's fantastic as Joseph Gabcik, who is sent with Jan Kubish to assassinate Reinhardt Heydrich. Very accurate historical piece ...never seen Cillian so hard and so heroic! Fantastic film ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
He's brilliant in The Wind That Shakes the Barley too and Disco Pigs..aggressive in that latter one! In his very first film On The Edge, you can see that he was an incredible actor right from the the start!
They were a lot less concerned about the first world war in Ireland so it makes sense that Major Campbell would think hes the big man in belfast and then in Birmingham everyone thinks hes a pussy because everyone in Britain faught. Edit: most of ireland were fighting too but they had a civil war and a war of independence all around the same time as the first world war so the fighting was all over the place. Not to mention the 1916 rising. So yeah the British took the first world war far more seriously than the irish who had like 3 wars in 10 years. Thats why they've been politically neutral ever since
I'm a bit late on watching this but I thought you'd find this interesting: Helen McCrory, who plays Aunt Polly was married to Damian Lewis, who plays Richard Winters in Band of Brothers (which is an incredible coincidence since you guys are watching that as well)
You guys will love this show I think s4 will be your favourite though s2 has some banger episodes too. My family came from Birmingham and were active police during the time of the real pesky blinders so has some real history mixed with incredible writing and screenwork

Netflix didn't "buy" the show.
Netflix bought the licence to show it outside of the UK.
This is a BBC show in the UK which is why each season is 6 episodes, the same as every BBC TV show. Netflix bought the rights to show it worldwide
Well... not *_every_* BBC TV series but yeah, definitely nothing to do with Netflix apart from buying the rights to also transmit it years after first airing on BBC2.
@@ameliacraiig4193 yeah my bad, an exaggeration to say every show
The 6 episide thing is pretty common with BBC shows. Love that you're watching this!
one of my favorite bits of these early "get to know the characters" moments is when tommy goes to pick up the coin and his brothers practically jump to pick it up for him. it's just one of those "oh shit" moments that 1.) shows how in charge tommy is 2.) the respect they have for him and 3.) their closeness.
Ooh, I never thought of it that way. I immediately thought they were coming up ready to fight for the insult dealt to Tommy! Different interpretation altogether. Peace …
+ Tommy isn’t so foolish to let his plans fail because of a little male pride.
@@pjb3583 It's definitely this
Just so you know, lads, Sheamus is from the Republic of Ireland and Sam Neil is playing a man from Northern Ireland. They're distinctly different territories.
And the Dublin and Northern accents sound nothing alike
@@PK-eg8yzheck, there's two different accents in Dublin, even!
@@ratmackay 2 is an understatement. Sure there's North and south but there's even more variations of both of those too
@@PK-eg8yz yeah...pretty much most of Ireland and the UK, people who know can pin down where someone is from almost to the street.
Which shows just how ballsy Grace is a northern Irish girl faking a Dublin accent undercover in a violent gang center of operations.
Just FYI Helen McCrory who played Aunt Polly is the late wife of Damian Lewis who played Major Dick Winters in Band Of Brothers. Bless You Helen RIP!
Aunt Polly is The Queen of this series. "There is no name for the men who don't come back".
Such a strong line right!!! I love her character, but the dialogue the writers give her is just dang good!!❤💞❤️
Can’t wait for you guys to get to season 3! The good thing is each season is only 6 eps so it doesn’t take a long time to get through em.
The show will definitely get darker with each season though so be prepared for that 😅
Three is my favorite 🙃
Finally…..damn I’ve been impatient for this. I can’t wait until you get further into the seasons. It just gets better and better and better!
This was made by BBC not Netflix
The first two seasons were BBC, the following seasons were Netflix. Netflix owns it now.
@@acecarwell471I’m pretty sure it was all made by the bbc. Perhaps it was co-created with Netflix later on? The new seasons always came out on the bbc
@@sarahkelly473 you and @brooks4365 are right. I had to research it, that’s when Netflix acquired it, and cut it for wider distribution. However the same creator and BBC production team made the entire thing. My apologies! I love it either way, but appreciate the correction!
@@acecarwell471 Netflix have nothing to do with the show.
After Peaky Blinders, perhaps check out "Last Kingdom"?
Then you will recognize Billy Kimber's accountant as King Alfred.
Great show!
I second this!
Destiny is all!
Yes! David Dawson is one of my favourite actors
LOL
Happy to see new reactors getting into this show! ❤❤
I didn’t know much about this show going in but I’ve really enjoyed watching it for the first time with you guys 😊
That's so cool! I envy your fresh experience of this stellar show.😊
@@ameliacraiig4193 I know the feeling. I envy first time Harry Potter viewers
I'm Watching from the hospital 🏥 I couldn't miss a video of yours! I absolutely love it❤
I'm so sorry ur in the hospital hon!!
Minor Corrections:
The BBC own and still own the show.
Smfh.
@@ameliacraiig4193 Around 7-10 years ago I joined Quora.
I spent a few years on a daily basis renaming, adding images to, and rearranging British Topics, on things like:
Geography (countries, regions, ceremonial counties, cities etc).
Then Quora decided to ruin itself as:
The former admins disappeared in the groups, as they stopped responding.
@@danielgardecki1046 Oh yes. I think I remember that, now you've said it. It's been a minute. Lol
Great reaction this show gets better and better every season
Those horses were really well trained...there will be another scene much later when Tommy has to shoot a horse and the horse is trained to fall down as it does! It's really amazing what they can be taught to do!
Hit the like and subscribe button... BY ORDER OF THE PEAKY BLINDERS!
Btw this isn’t a Netflix series, it’s a weekly episodic on BBC
Ya gotta shout "BY THE ORDER OF THE PEAKY FOOKIN' BLINDERS!!!" 🤘👏👏👏❤️
Yes, & in the Brummie accent! It just doesn't hit otherwise.
In this show, sometimes events that seem like random "situations", as you called them, are in reality just another part of Tommy's actual plans. You're right he is playing chess but he's not often reacting to single moves he's like 3 or 4 moves ahead.
Paul Anderson was also in The Revenant and Legend if you've watched those.
Yes, Polly (Helen McRory) unfortunately passed away in 2021 due to breast cancer. She will forever be missed as both Polly Gray (PB) & Narcissa Malfoy (HP).
Also fun fact polly is Malfoy’s mother
I take it that you now understand why they're called the Peaky Binders, from the razor-hat fight scene....
Commenting for the algorithm. Love you guys!
It’s a BBC production, not Netflix!
This is a BBC show and Netflix bought the rights for 5years (I think) to stream it on their service as well
The real Billy Kimber was the leader of the Birmingham Boys (also known as the Brummagem Boys or the Brum Boys) were a street gang whose power extended from the North of England to London's underworld, between the 1910s and 1930s, Kimber shot and killed a Greek gangster in a London night club in front of a lot of witnesses, he went to America and a Brummagem Boy working for a Mafia boss took him in, Kimber shot someone who owed him money and went to Chicago where one of Capones men with Brit parents took him in, he eventually slipped back into England settling in a seaside resort town where he became part of the town council living out his life there and dying of old age.
Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly) played Narcissa Malfoy (Draco's Mum) in the HP series. Fun little connection between the two incredible productions!
Great reactions of yours to the "Sorry misunderstood your intentions when you pushed me against the wall" line & the Cinema scene 😄 & 16:56 that's called 'High Tea' & yes Answer it is delicious! 😋 & what a brilliantly shot scene & dialogue between Shelby & Police Officer, so much has happened & it's only eps 2! & I got that Sheamus reference too!

Fyi, I think they are from 2 diff areas of Ireland ( one North & one south) if I'm not mistaken so technically their accents would be very different, but I totally get still why he would make that reference. I'm hoping in one of these reactions Oak will finally recognize & realize that Aunt Polly is Dracos mom cause he hasn't seemed to notice yet.
Oak mentioned in last ep that he just couldn't get jurassic park out of his head w Sam Neill & I just kept thinking oh boy ...not after u see him in this role!!❤💞❤️

Yeah, no kidding. kind of a Bummer.
Short seasons means each episode just clicks along at a great pace. I do love that. Peace …
This is such a great show. Can’t wait for the movie!!!!
The show was actually on bbc, not Netflix. BBC would show one episode a week so we couldn’t even binge all 6 when the new season came out 🤣 Netflix picked it up to show to American audiences originally

You have no idea how good this show will get. Fantastic writing.
Wish we could get you guys to do 2 episodes a week!
You boys should react to '28 Days later 2002', one of Cillian Murphys earlist film, my favorite Cillian preformance!
He's brilliant in The Wind That Shakes the Barley too and Disco Pigs..aggressive in that latter one! In his very first film On The Edge, you can see that he was an incredible actor right from the the start!
My vote for your next series is The Last Kingdom

Its getting better and better trust me ❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
And im so happy to see yuou guy reaction on this my love show ❤😊
They were a lot less concerned about the first world war in Ireland so it makes sense that Major Campbell would think hes the big man in belfast and then in Birmingham everyone thinks hes a pussy because everyone in Britain faught.
Edit: most of ireland were fighting too but they had a civil war and a war of independence all around the same time as the first world war so the fighting was all over the place. Not to mention the 1916 rising. So yeah the British took the first world war far more seriously than the irish who had like 3 wars in 10 years. Thats why they've been politically neutral ever since
Love this series 10/10
That’s why they’re called the peaky blinders 😂
this week went by sooo slow waiting for this one!
Also the actress that played aunt Polly was married to actor Damian Lewis from Homeland. RIP Helen McCroy 💕

They’ll love season 3 finale too. Probably has the best acting scene from this show in that episode
