He should've added a texture pack making each hostile mob chara with different weapon (eg, Empty Gun Chara - Skeleton)

The shield would have been a lot more useful if you had armor. Even at half a heart a full suit can mitigate enough damage to take 0 half hearts of damage (it's in the lower decimals). Combined with the shield, you would actually be able to tank hits.
So yes, it would have been useful to get some.

Mystic, in checking it states sans has 1 DEFENSE, not 1 HP. When you hit him it deals 999999 damage, not just 1. Sans has an abnormal ammount of HP but his defense is incredibly low
