i totally agree we are, our own worst enemy, i have never had a white person make fun of my skintone or hair grade, i have only gotten that b.s. from my own race! the things that we say to divide each other is crazy! lightskin vs darkskin, good hair vs bad hair, relaxed vs natural, the shit needs to stop the differences within us, is what makes us unique we need to truly stop this nonsense.
*11 years later and it's worse! I've only had few non-black people do that but only out of jealousy or rejection..But still mostly it's our own..sigh. Meanwhile I had a EX-Latina friend trying to tan & ask me if she was darker & going "natural" with me suddenly LOL*
All of these videos from 12 years ago are popping up like crazy. YT algorithm is taking us back today. I am loving your originals though. Good job Ti!👏🏽
i feel you on that, my husband heard a lot of the same things growing up, he was the lightest out of all of his siblings, so yes it does go both ways. at the end of the day we need to love ourselves no matter what! even if you get lighter or darker, it doesn't necessarily mean that your life will be any easier or happier. the grass always looks greener on the other side, but 9 times outta 10 it's not, it's just plain ol' grass nothing more nothing less=o)
I also got teased for my skin color. I'm actually dark skin and when I was in elementary school this girl teased me because I was darker than her. In my mind I could give two fucks about that because at the end of the day we were both Black. We both had roots that traced to Africa. I told her "You're Black too tho." And she replied "But I'm not THAT Black." 😒 It was so useless even carrying a coversation with her and getting my point across.
lol it's ok it takes a real man to apologize thank you for that=) i feel you on the whole hair thing i was addicted to weaves and relaxers for a long time, but since i went natural i am learning to love the real me, i wish i would have chopped off my hair sooner lol your good 305 be blessed=)
thanks for your comment great to see a totally different perspective, i agree a lot of us want what we don't have, regardless if that is tanning, bleaching, curly hair straight hair ect this is why plastic surgery is so popular too what ever you want you "can get done".
It truly is ridiculous because many of the skin bleaching creams can eventually cause adverse side effects and affect a person's health, especially if they are over-using them. Most people don't even consider this. What does skin bleaching and whitening really do for you in the long run. It doesn't make you smarter, nicer, or richer. You are really speaking the truth in this video especially when it comes to people being hypocrites...Nice video!
first of all that's all my hair no weave so because i chose to straighten my hair for a day i have a European mindset? i suggest you watch a more recent video i have since cut off my hair and i'm rocking a afro! i never once said i was better then anyone the point of the video is to make people aware of how real the the situation is. so because i'm ok with my brown skin i think i'm better? but if i was on here crying about being dark i would be self hating smh no please folks i swear LOL!
Wow....well executed Ti!!! This really is a subject that needed to be addressed. This isn't like trying to lighten a pimple scar, this is trying to change who you are....sad and frightening!
I have never bleached my skin nor ever intend to. I have considered it though. Primarily because of the media and seeing how guys respond more to the girls with lighter skin. It's messed up but whatev, I feel it's all about confidence and me loving myself for me.
girl thanks for backing me up, people think i'm playing when i tell them how many africans bleach their damn skin, it a shame it's like Nigerians are trying to follow other people's standard of beauty when we have our own, when my cousin moved to the states she was rocking all types of blond weave I'm like why blond? between the bleaching and the weaves a lot of girls over there, are starting to follow all of the craziness that go's on here.
I am a dark skinned African American woman when I was in 6th to 8th grade the other AFRICAN AMERICAN kids were picking on me calling me BLACKY AND TAR GIRL. I hated my skin so much I use to sit in the shade I hated the sun I use to ask god why he made me so dark. Now that I'm older I realize that my skin is ok but I really went through a lot
Oh yeah, my mom was very light-skinned and I use to want her complexion as a pre-teen so I considered skin bleaching until she had a serious talk with me and I changed my mind. Plus, my brother is very dark skinned and exudes a tremendous amount of confidence regardless of what others think about his skin color. This really rubbed off on me. I accepted who and how I was and I thank the Lord for that.
I agree. It just saddens me to find that so many black women do not like the colour of their own skin. Frightening, really. I'm black too and never ever had a problem with that and I don't care if other people do. In the end of the day then it's them who have the real problem, not myself!
This was the very first video of yours that I ever watched. I didn't realize that its been 12 yrs since I've been a loyal follower. I AM A TRUCKER and your lives get me through lonely roads (unfortunately I'm never able to catch the lives in real time). I have some mindblowing information to share you with involving the trucking industry and these FAKE shortages created by the abundance of regulations in this field. I also want to discuss the underground caves that are getting high volumes of supplies delivered around the clock. I also have pictures and videos.
lovelyti, I LOVE your channel. You are a beautiful intelligent woman who can tell it like it is and I respect that. Love your realness. Always on point. 7:57 Keep these great conversation videos going. Now I have 2 people on TH-cam (the other is Timaya) that I enjoy listening to talk for 10+ minutes! :-)
White/ black people want the same color - golden olive /light brown for women, bronze for men, nobody wants to be dark brown/black or pale pink/freckled/white. Only Asian women) want to be snow white, but some want to be olive and some Asian men want to be bronze. Nobody wants to be the 2 extremes of white and black. If you have beautiful features, your skin color makes no difference, you're beautiful, but if your face/body is average, medium color will make you look more attractive.
hey girl love that name=0) well i don't have any thought on it one way or another, you have to do what you feel is right. most would say who cares about a little discoloration ignore it, but again most are not in your shoes and do not know if this is something that is effecting u deeply. i know most people who bleach do it for crazy/ self hating reasons, so just don't fall in to that trap/cycle.
:( Thankyou for your videos. I am dark skinned with african facial features and I don't have very high self esteem because of it. Your videos along with counseling have helped me start to like what I see in the mirror.
yeah i know blame youtube, it's not like i can choose the ad's the run on my video, it's a damn shame that they are running them smh. oh well at the end of the day, folks are going to do what they want to do...
thanks girl, yeah i know a lot of people like that, I to have places on my face that are dark/lighter, my legs are lighter then my face/arms =D plain coco butter has helped me a lot as far as evening my skintone and keeping it soft and smooth, but i know everyone is different. thanks for watching.
She is right about this European standard of beauty affecting other races. I was shocked when i learned that Asians get plastic surgary to look more "American" which means white. They alter their noses and eye-lids to look white because this is considered attractive and features like that increase your chances of getting a job.
great video! and thanks so much for reading my letter Ti. I'm sure everyone found this episode sad as well, but you know what, at the end of the day, there is ALWAYS someone who wishes they had a physical feature from you that we might not be appreciating. So I agree with you, love yourself no matter what! =)
Even with lighter skin, you would still have that full body pubic hair to deal with. I say just be happy with who you are. That's the way God made you.
hope your not trying to be funny, b ysaying that i am contradicting myself? i have nothing to do with the ad's that run on my page, if they bother you that much i suggest you contact Google, but don't say i'm being contradicting myself...
Wow! This is a very sad issue that some have. People are putting their lives at risk just to lighter. Thanks for this vid and all of the links. Your vids are always so insightful.
Wow. Good video, Ti. I saw that Tyra episode and I was appalled at the mom who bleached her sons' skin. And those commercials you posted were so sad. I feel like the weight thing is more bombarded into Americans, but to have commercials on skin bleaching in India and other countries was awful. I have an Indian friend who once explained how lighter skin and eyes are more desired and she would often wear blue contacts even though she has beautiful honey brown eyes. This craziness needs to stop.
girl her and Micheal break my heart for real! kim looked so much better before now she looks like a creepy old lady, im like dang nothing about her is real anymore she is lighter then beyonce!
duhhhh did i not say i was african?? so i know they do this in africa... i suggest you rewatch the video cus your comment made no sense, i'm lmao at you, for saying that someone is LUCKY/FORTUNATE if their skin gets lighter from skin bleaching, smh self hate is a mofo!
YESSS FINALLY YOU MADE THIS VIDEO ! i looked all over your channel to see if you had done one already .You are so right (as usual ) :) Ilove your outfit today .
Great Video and i totally understand what your getting at hun. Its a shame how people feel that they have to bleech their skin or do something to their skin to recieve a lighter complexion because people are telling you thats what beauty is.anyways gud job sweetheart
yeah i have seen that before as well especially on my husband's side of the family, but with micheal i just don't belive it, lol sorry that's how i feel.
you are absoulty right on 7:51 i defiently agree, if your not potrayring what your telling your child to think is beautiful than there is no reason at all to even tell them to lovethemselves because you are no better than what your trying to say. Thank you for getting that point across.
I just watched the Tyra video you posted. I have a lot of friends and some family members that bleach their skin and I think it is ridiculous! People have a lot of issues they need to work through, its just sad.
excellent video! As a dark skinned woman I too have received nasty comments or backhand compliments (pretty to be darkskinned) growing up and as an adult. I have felt inferior to lighter skinned women. I have NEVER and would NEVER contemplate bleaching my skin. I have a chocolate 12 year old and I have taught her to love her chocolatey goodness.
You are so right about Nigerians bleaching their skin. I know the culture, very well I was married into it and the venusn De milo is very popular in the Nigerian market..
YOU ARE SO DAMN GORGEOUS!!! , i feel realy attracted to you, im starting to realize that im not realy attracted to getto street girls , and you dont seem like a getto girl at all. you have a lovely personality
this was a truly informative video ! i'm really happy i watched it. i've heard about this issue only in school, but you've actually brought to light a lot of points of view to this issue that i had never recognized. so for that, thank you !! xox maso
My high school was mainly black kids, which I loved, one girl started bleaching and got bullied for that instead, of course bullying isn't good, but she did stop bleaching.
Hi Lovelyti, I must admit I've never paid much attention to these bleaching kits in the beauty supply store, and I was unaware that this is even happening in the African American community. To be honest, I'm kinda sick to my stomach after watching the Tyra video. Thanks for the great topics, keep it up.
oooh i saw a news report about how in africa and in some places where the bleaching creams are unregulated and it breaks the people's skin out, or burns it. hydroconine (sp)...it's horrible...i dont know if you mention it in this video, but i was so excited i couldn't wait to post this comment!
girl i am telling you the commercials are disgusting! it's a white women in black face. it makes me so sad! i would hate to live in indian and see those commercials =( i can only imagine how those brown kids feel.
well, what I would say about the skin bleaching thing, really, i've thought about it i mean in my pic, i'm black but really, i think it's a choice that we make on our own even though ppl like tell us stuff it all comes down to the point, your choice at the end.
Well said.....thank you! Oh yeah and thank you for informing people about the mercury content in bleaching cream and possible liver failure......is it really worth all that folks?
I know you probably don't need somene else's opinion, Ti, cuz you seem really confident, but you are beautiful!! Dark skin, light skin, in the middle, it's all beautiful, as lon as you take care of it.
I don't think I could do something so unhealthy.. I'm tan but I'm mixed with stuff, at the end of the day, it's all about health. Also, what's wrong with being dark? I got jeslous of a darker girl because she was sooo pretty to me, but she said I was lucky because I had light skin :/ the world of today
No and I will never bleach my skin. When I was younger I had a phase where I wanted to limit my time sun (the Mojave desert gets hot!), but thats about it. Great video.
Here in Asia it's very common to find lightening or whitening cream for skin. It doesn't mean we hate our colour or ourselves. It's just a culture. I am considered medium dark skin for Asians. And my colour is still lighter than Vanessa Williams. There is spa that you can go for skin lightening using papaya extract and lemon or lime or cucumber. It doesn't really make you whiter, but just make your skin glow. So it looks like brighter. It's different from bleaching. I find bleaching is have
omg i know this girl who was very very very dark. kinda alec wek's complextion and she is sooo pretty!! i admired her every time i saw her (no im not a lesbian or bisexual.lol) but she was soo pretty and alway dressed so pretty. i envied her soo much! and whenever i showed my friends" thats the girl i was telling you about " then they'd say "eww shes dark thats nasty" or "nah shes too dark to be pretty. you're exaggerating" SMH btw my friends are black.
Im white and black. Im a bit lighter than alicia keys. But I have been teased about my skin colour ALOT. Ppl have told me 'dont try and be black etc..' .. and they call me lightskin, yellow. WTF. I find that so offencive.. ppl will describe me as 'oh yh the light skin one' . URGH, i find that so rude. Its so rude. My point is its not just black ppl that are teased about the colour. But i do agree 100% with what you are saying, its a big shame that ppl cant accept the BEAUTIFUL colour they are .
I actually use Ambi because I tend to get these dark, rash, patches all over my body in the summer especially after i come from swimming in the pool. It does make you lighter. I do however disagree with those who use for that reason to make themselves lighter. Not everyone who is using it is using it for negative reasons.
I'am a dark skinned woman and I have always been taught to love my skin. I have heard of ppl doing this but it never appealed to me. God has blessed with my beautiful skin. I know that the ppl that do this really have no identity of who they are or were they come from. I come from a beautiful family of beautiful dark creeammy Africans and we all love our self very much. I just thank God that I can apreciate myself when I look in the mirror.
Wow... Sadly i have fell subject to this skin bleaching mess and im 15 years old. When i was younger I scrubbed and used everything i could find to try and lighten my skin to match my light skinned mother and cousins... I am of a medium skin tone and today i love who i am.. my kinky hair, my dark eyes, and my dark skin ♥ I think this is instilled in your childhood years... and unfortunately it took me 15 years to begin to appreciate and love myself.
@SoulfulLova (Continuation of my last reply) To feel as though you are equal to women of a lighter skin tone. I think that no one has the right to judge those who bleach ( Although I don't because I love my dark skin; I'm Nigerian) because Caucasian women do the same but in tanning.
I use to use skin toning cream to lighten dark spots on my body on the dark areas. These weren't really working so moved on to try skin bleaching creams, when I realized the chemicals that were used decided against them. So you might ask what do I do about those dark spots - I use to use sun beds but as a black person if you go into a tanning salon you get strange looks and strange comments. Now using Airbrush Spray make-up in dark by Sally Hanson. I am more interested in a even skin tone.
The case of your cousin and you reminds me of my cousin and I. As we were growing up I was always lighter than her (still am. Just not as light). It wasn't because I bleached my skin. I naturally had light skin. My mom is really light for an Indian woman. I would get more looks, complements and whatever else this society things is better. Now, my cousin and I are almost the same skin color. I personally wish I could have my light skin again.
It can go both ways with the teasing though. I'm pretty pale; and I used to get teased for it. They would call me albino. Or ask me if I was albino. So when I hear that dark skined people bleach there skin, I cringe; because why fix something if it's not broken. Just because you have a dark skin tone, doesn't make you any less of a person. Hell I say be proud you are darker.
i totally agree we are, our own worst enemy,
i have never had a white person make fun of my skintone or hair grade, i have only gotten that b.s. from my own race!
the things that we say to divide each other is crazy! lightskin vs darkskin, good hair vs bad hair, relaxed vs natural, the shit needs to stop the differences within us, is what makes us unique we need to truly stop this nonsense.
Good job Ti!👏🏽
i feel you on that, my husband heard a lot of the same things growing up, he was the lightest out of all of his siblings, so yes it does go both ways. at the end of the day we need to love ourselves no matter what!
even if you get lighter or darker, it doesn't necessarily mean that your life will be
any easier or happier.
the grass always looks greener on the other side, but 9 times outta 10 it's not, it's just plain ol' grass nothing more nothing less=o)
thanks girl, i agree with you... we have been brainwashed to think that lighter skin and straighter hair is more attractive...
Natural brown skin all day.
Dark skin is just as beautiful as light skin
Your hair is always popping naturally and with wigs on 12 years later still the baddest TH-camr❤😍
💯💯
I also got teased for my skin color. I'm actually dark skin and when I was in elementary school this girl teased me because I was darker than her. so because i'm ok with my brown skin i think i'm better? but if i was on here crying about being dark i would be self hating smh no please folks i swear LOL!
I am so glad you talked about this topic.
Wow....well executed Ti!!! This really is a subject that needed to be addressed. This isn't like trying to lighten a pimple scar, this is trying to change who you are....sad and frightening!

This woman speaks the truth but not in an ignorant way. She knows by experience and people who did it around her.
Strange thing is, black guys do the same thing to each other, more so behind the back, now thats sad
lovelyti,
I LOVE your channel. You are a beautiful intelligent woman who can tell it like it is and I respect that. Love your realness. Always on point. 7:57

@ecentric7 Thank you! I totally agree. Lighter skinned women get teased too, but we don't get as much support. All colors are beautiful!

it's a white women in black face.
it makes me so sad!
i would hate to live in indian and see those commercials =( i can only imagine how those brown kids feel.
well, what I would say about the skin bleaching thing, really, i've thought about it i mean in my pic, i'm black but really, i think it's a choice that we make on our own even though ppl like tell us stuff it all comes down to the point, your choice at the end.
I find bleaching is have
omg i know this girl who was very very very dark. kinda alec wek's complextion and she is sooo pretty!! i admired her every time i saw her (no im not a lesbian or bisexual.lol) but she was soo pretty and alway dressed so pretty. i envied her soo much! and whenever i showed my friends" thats the girl i was telling you about "
then they'd say "eww shes dark thats nasty" or "nah shes too dark to be pretty. you're exaggerating" SMH
btw my friends are black.
@kriscruz64 learn how to spell before tossing around insults...
The stupidity on TH-cam never ceases to amaze me.
Everything you've said is so, so true...
I hope her show comes out on DVD
Five stars. Speak girl, for real, I totally agree.
I love this person
YOU MAKE ME PROUD TO BE A BLACK WOMAN......AND YOU MAKE ME PROUD OF BLACK WOMEN EVERYWHERE.
I agree, we should lead by example. You can show them better than you can tell them.
@coolguy75100 LOL thank you so much ;)
The case of your cousin and you reminds me of my cousin and I.
@exmiranda thanks sweetie, i'm Nigerian.
@LAKEdeborah
I'm east indian, and I don't mean this in any racist way whats so ever, but I think black women are absolutely beautiful
Hell I say be proud you are darker.
i know exactly what you mean in this video. it really hit home.
