    People would get so upset by the chasing of coyotes with hounds, then we got a hot summer and a rabies outbreak which spreads very rapidly among coyote packs. When everybody's dog and every hiker on the park trails were in danger from these rabid beasts then people changed their attitude quickly.

I therefore can not understand the win factor that these people feel at the end of it all, especially with all the effort and expense involved? I wish one of them could explain it to me!

      Tall KnowitAll--Foxes do indeed kill livestock, especially lambs and chickens. If you haven't farmed for a living, it is easy to sympathize with the fox which is still classified as vermin in England. I used to farm, and I did not lose lambs or chickens because I locked them up in the evening--something a farmer with a very large flock cannot do. I actually lost some chickens in broad daylight, although they might have fallen victim to hawks or raccoons as well as foxes.

    • @tallknowitall1151
      @tallknowitall1151 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bud Savoie so I guess we should torture and kill all prey birds and any other animal that can kill a chicken? A little fox can kill a sheep? Funny thing I saw a wolf trying to kill a sheep and it didn't have enough time before it was scared away. Now a wolf is about 3x the size of a fox and it couldn't take down the sheep before it was scared off.
      Even if your bull shit narrative of "pest" control was true, there is no need for a bunch of queer men to dress up in tight red coats and chase a poor little fox on horses, with dogs, and guns. Nothing about that is masculine and I'm sure the worlds ecosystem would be just fine without you guys torturing foxes. There's nothing respectable about a person who claims to be a man yet spends his time enjoying torturing animals. You do it because a fox steals your chicken? I'd LOVE to see what you would do if 4 or 5 guys stole your wallet and you didn't have your gun. I bet you wouldn't even try to get it back.

    • @Oakleaf700

      You said it...with proper housing it is possible to keep foxes out of hen houses/runs. Foxes can and do do damage, but the myth that hunting is done to quell numbers is nonsense.The local hunt here [a 'high status' one] has coverts where they allow foxes to breed unmolested all spring and summer to provide the field with ''good sport''.

    We use to hunt fox in Texas at night. The dogs would run them for hours, when the gray fox tired from running he would go up a tree just like a cat. The hunt was over. Red fox would do the same but they preferred holes in the ground. We would not kill the fox, it was the chase that mattered. It was a lot of fun to sit and listen to them run.

      I had a friend (now deceased) who owned a pack of Walkers. He ran them at night, and the music of the hounds was beautiful. The hounds never caught the fox; in fact, some of the hounds run all their lives and never actually see a fox. This is more properly fox "running", not "hunting", since the trailing and the music is the point.

    • @Yaris510
      @Yaris510 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sketchy Luke Ah, but eating meat is natural; besides, what would one do with millions of domestic livestock if one stopped eating them? Keep them as pets? I am, of course, totally opposed to intensive, factory farming - but that's an argument for keeping animals in free-range conditions. Read Stephen Budiansky's 'The Covenant of the Wild'

    • @bikerluke182
      @bikerluke182 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll give that book a look sometime. I'm not suggesting it would be a good thing to bring back fox hunting but, whilst it's quite shocking for some to witness, it really doesn't seem any more unnatural to me than eating meat. Letting a pack of dogs hunt is a lot more "natural" than feeding it dog food at home.
      I live in the countryside and regularly see lots of creatures get torn apart by other animals. Most living things on this planet die in the teeth of something else. Again, I'm not pro-fox hunting, just not particularly against it either.

    • @Yaris510
      @Yaris510 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sketchy Luke You're right that killing for food is natural - we all do it: even vegetarians (plants don't want to be eaten, either). HOWEVER, the pursuit by a pack of so-called 'fox' hounds of a smaller wild dog is something which would NEVER happen in the wild - note the behaviour of wild canids such as wolves, which specialise in hunting large herbivores such as elk, moose, bison and deer. Besides, killing for meat needn't be inhumane. In addition to the Budiansky, let me recommend Dr Temple Grandin's 'Thinking in Pictures'

    Digging out a fox that went to ground is completely wrong. We do not practice that in our hunt and would ban anyone who did. I have, actually, never seen a kill. We see many fox, but have never had, or frankly, want a kill. This is cherry picking film footage of the worst violators. Mounted fox hunting is a social event and tradition that strives to protect open space, farmland preservation and health and safety for horse and rider. It also provides for a local economy of grain stores, vets, farriers, grooms and barn owners. What do the anties do for the community other than increase the policing cost?

    • @berndhorsch8032
      @berndhorsch8032 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Healthy for horse and rider? Most of You have not even the time for horseback riding. Most of You are forcing their horses by generating enormous pain into submission. You are fond of everything, which is causing pain to Your horses, but afraid of daily labour. Going for what You call riding 3 times a week for 1 or 2 hours cannot be called riding. In this way You will never get the skill for cross country events. You will not even get the skill to sit on a horse in a barn. The slaughter houses are full of unrideable horses in their best age, who have to pass to make the box free for the next candidate going to be abused.
