I remember watching the ground crew doing these start-up tests when I was in Japan. I always wondered why they made so much noise before the engine started up. I loved being a hvac tech in the USAF. We got to see really cool stuff, like this, by just doing our job.

check out an Marine Corp Osprey pre run, pre warmup preflight and then its pre run, then its pre warmup and then engine warmup, then finally the preflight and takeoff. I got hung up on a service road for 29 minutes waiting on it.
Starting the aircraft is a few buttons, Main Power > Fuel > Air Bleed > Engine Start, Thats it. The rest of the stuff he was doing was mostly all avionics related, like starting ground alignment, switching on the MFD's, DED and the HUD, Testing the Warning systems, Looks like he turned on the TGP Hardpoint etc etc etc
If I just followed EVERYTHING you just did, only having read the Falcon BMS simulator manual...... I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK! I knew what you were going to touch and what you wanted to sight NEXT even before you did it! I feel good. Thanks

thats true, but you forget the parking brake and external lights and some other switches:P, in Holland the pilots wait about 2 minutes to move the throttle "over the horn" they do that to burn the JFS's exhaust clean. thats why we have a big black puff of smoke coming out the JFS when it shuts down. nice vid BTW
I miss G.E.s sometimes, but find P&Ws are easier to run. The EPs are easier to remember, that's for sure. Low block- yuck! lol. Got cert'd on block 25s so I could run block 40s. Originally a block 50 guy, though. I miss those!
This was a maiteneance run so not need to hit SMS. And they in the desert so I not they got live missles on them. Most maintainers would never hit the SMS switch, even if it is de-armed.
It's fast when you know where to put your hand and what you are doing. Starting a jet is actually pretty straightforward, when you know what is behind it. The real pain in the ass is setting up the radio, navigation, etc.
Hey AirlinePilot. I was wondering: I have heard on many F-16s that signature turkey-feather whine on throttle up. When the aircraft does that, what are the conditions under which it would make that sound? Do only aircraft with certain engines do that?
I am pretty sure your friend is wrong. At least on the F-16.The Battery switch is not a magnetically controlled switch. It actually locks into place. The JFS switch, however is. When the RPM's run up and the engine takes over, the JFS switch magnet(held by 24 volts) will realease and the switch goes back to center postion.

As a former engine run qualified F-16 crew chief who was also at Balad AB, I have a couple of questions. As a maintainer, why are you wearing a watch on the flightline, much less in the cockpit? And why did you leave the spider handle up? Not trying to nitpick but those are two big red flags.
More so not to have a breakaway watch on in the cockpit. I am a 2W171 Weapons Loader, F-16 and having been crossed trained as a Crew Chief working at a Alert Detachment. You never wear jewelry or watches inside the cockpit. Not blasting you but not a good idea....remember FOD, FOD.....
Once you're Run qualified, you'll understand. LOTS of times you have to keep track of(especially with a dual engine acft), and the clock in the cockpit isn't enough

SPL = SinglePuLse = pulse jamming? FRM = frequency memory = fake radar signals with changed doppler and delay (range) send back to radar??? EDIT: Looks like its all software definied, all buttons and indicators.

Falcon BMS manual says it shouldn't go above 750 or else it's a hotstart and you should unidle to 200C yet here it went way above that and he just carried on as if it's ok to do. Am I missing something here? or is it just for longterm maintenance purposes?

If you start up the Falcon with START 2 mode and you have a failure, I suppose that you can't start the plane anymore because all the accumulators are empty...
The crew chief has to pump up the accumulators manually. A pain in the a$$ because the pump is located in the nose gear wheel well so the cc is hunkered down furiously pumping away while I, the pilot, relax in my seat all strapped in. I always hated bad starts. Felt bad for the crew chief.

I worked 15's, not 16's, but you really don't. After a while they just become a pain in the ass and no longer cool.
You know you've played too much DCS world when you see the fuel gauge and immediately know the plane has two wing tanks, but no centerline tank.

Yes. Only the PW engines. The GE don’t do that

@@ldviper7654 wow thats interesting because the F15 with PW-220 engines has a 680 limit on start. Is the 900 limit with the GE engine? Thanks for the reply.
@@MattH-wg7ou yeah no problem but according to a crew chief I’ve spoken too he said “FTIT should stay below 900° on a normal day”
