Hi Leena, I very rarely comment on videos but I felt compelled to share that your thoughts resonate with me so strongly and I truly enjoy listening to your podcasts! I could feel your joy about finding the right combination of colors so that all of them shine (such a worthy pursuit!) and it gave me a lot of renewed inspiration to flex that "muscle" - as you say - for some of the projects I am stuck on color-wise. Many thanks for your content covering the joy of knitting, the philosophy of making and generally, of life! Cheers.
I am so behind and just watched this today- hubby was golfing and daughter was at a friends house and I indulged in some lazy time! Your cardigan is beautiful! Oh my gosh it’s amazing! I love the color you chose. I too am a “fudge it” knitter. 😂 I hope by the time I am writing this, that your single parenting stint is done and things have recalibrated for you. I just had the growth through challenges talk in the car with Annalie today! I think it is a talk we will revisit often.
I am so impressed with you. You are smart and wise beyond your age. I still find it hard to see my adult kids struggle from time to time. I still want to jump in and solve all their problems. On top of that I want to see my grandkids happy and carefree. That too is impossible. So thanks for your advice. You taught an old dog new tricks. I also love your colour choices for the tessalated sweater. I made the vest and found it very slow going. Good luck.
I am so glad I stayed to the end. Excellent advice. I have two twenty-something kiddos and letting them navigate their own lives is so important yet at times so difficult. Steering clear of my own story is the best way for me to be the best Mom I can be. Thank you Leena!
Leena, your podcast is such a joy! Your reflections on negative thoughts are really resonating with me right now. Also I cannot wait to follow along with your Tessellated sweater project!
Thank you so much! I’m glad I’m not the only one that finds myself spiraling! What is it that makes us put so much mental energy into negativity?? Fingers crossed that the Tessellated is not as painful of a knit as I keep hearing. We shall see!
Hi leena...I love your choice of colors that you picked for your pullover and can't wait to see it when its done...you should have seen my cat when she heard the dog barking...she jumped out of her chair and was headed for under the bed🙀..so funny...👋🥰
I like your knitting thinking, but it is your parenting thoughts that always make me think and comment. You come across as a very deep person and extremely thoughtful mother, passionately dedicated and invested in thoughtful motherhood, especially in regards to your son. Interestingly, in US it is quite common to have ambitious and intelligent and educated women to be a full-time mums, AND AT THE SAME TIME, children leave home to go to college relatively young. So you and your son both can expect some serious detachment process in three years.
Aw, thank you so much!! And-tell me about it. I think about him leaving every single day. I can’t imagine my life without seeing him everyday. My kids are my little soulmates. But alas, they will have to fly and live their dreams. Interesting about full time moms…I do feel like 90% of my friends work and I am in the rare minority. But, I am definitely planning the second half of my life now, as I have put so much mental energy into my kids, and I know that is going to end sooner than I can imagine! So we shall see where the wind takes me!! Thank you for your notes they are a joy, and I love exchanging our thoughts 💜 Happy knitting to you my friend.
Linen quill!!! I bought thay exact color, stillwater blue, because of your ranting and ravings. I'm knitting the Natsu linen cardigan with it. Thanks for the inspiration
It’s always a pleasure to see you Leena. You are so thoughtful and well spoken and you have such meaningful insights into whatever subject you are sharing. I know that you’re an incredible parent just because you care so much about doing the best thing. Are you excited for the west knits mkal? I sure am!
You’re so sweet! Thank you for your kind words, and for listening. MKALs are such a double edged sword for me! Is it just me, or is it earlier this year?? Or maybe time is just flying by and I’m in denial 😉 Much to discuss on this in the coming weeks!
I love fisherman knit because it looks like brioche but for me it is so much easier. I’m knitting the Stornoway shawl which has been so difficult for me but it’s for my son and daughter-in-law. I have totally started over four times after a lot of knitting. The cables are beautiful
Hi Sandra! I have actually never done fisherman’s rib in a piece. I have swatched it though, and it really does have the same vibe as brioche, but so much less fussy.
Thank you. We just returned from a 2 week camping trip and visited beautiful Colorado. I am Mom of 4 adult kids and 2 pups and it is a wonderful beautiful sometimes painful journey. Wondering if you are doing the Stephen West Mkal. I have never done one of his MKals and know you are a super fan. Have a good trip with your kids to visit your husband. The tessellated sweater will be gorgeous ❤
Hi Laurie! So sorry for the late response. Your camping trip sounds amazing! I hope the weather wasn’t too warm. Life with kids is indeed beautiful and painful at the same time, no matter how old they are! I can’t imagine how much bandwidth you have to parent four kids!! I have done many MKALs, but this year I’m not joining. It’s taking all my willpower to resist!! I chatted about it the most recent pod. Hope you are well. Happy knitting 💜
No worries. Loved your latest pod regarding Alpineglow blanket from Purl Soho with linen quil. I am going to make the Incredible Blanket with the same kit of minis. Can’t wait to start a lovely colorful blanket. We have 2 wildfires here is Southern California so we are trying to stay indoors
I have been listening to and loving Hysterical too! I don’t have a Wondery subscription, so I’m having to wait for the episodes to be released each week. I’m glad to hear it ends well!
Oh yay! A fellow Wondery-lover!! I’m in the same boat. I don’t have a subscription either, but I just discovered it so was able to binge it all in one go. Such a fascinating story, right??
I'm listening to God of the Woods, but had to pause that one while away this past week. When I was away I read Nettle and Bone...a fairly quick read which is like a fantasy fairy tale. At the airport on the way back I purchased Remarkably Bright Creatures, which I'm enjoying!
I can so relate. I have an 8th grade daughter and 9th grade son. I spiral like that too. Another mantra I like to say to myself is This Too Shall Pass. I want my kids to feel like they can share/vent/decompress with me because i was not able to do that with my parents. They are kids and they need help learning how to express and process emotions, and then self soothe or seek out support. I am finding my kids do not really want a solution most of the time--they just want me to say this is normal, you are not alone, this will pass, i love you, let me know if i can do anything, etc. but wow, it is tough. lots of heavy sighing around here. and me being transparent with them and saying I do not know how to fix this, I am scared too, I am sad you are sad, etc. I was sick recently and it was so nice to talk with my daughter--when i was struggling she could give me similar pep talks to the ones i have given her over the years. Your kids are watching and listening to you and your thoughtfulness about parenting with be instilled in them!
It’s so lovely to read your story!! I love that your daughter has learned how to be loving and supportive from you. I think that is the most beautiful part of parenting. We don’t get raises or promotions, but we do get to witness our children turning into amazing humans. And you are soooooo right. They don’t want solutions, they just want a witness to their experiences. It’s tough for us since when they were little it was easier to fix things!!
Love your tank and sweater. Question regarding using barber cord for a provisional cast on. Do you find your stitches are stretched out when you join again? When I was using Bamboo yarn and did a provisional cast on and picked them back up, my stitches were so stretched out that it looked horrible and wasn't sure it would block out so now the project is in time out. 🤣
So funny that you asked that. I was worried about it too! It doesn’t appear to have done that, but I can see how it would with a stretchier yarn. I hate when that happens. I did try to knit tightly on the round where I started back up. Linen Quill is non-superwash so it was ok.
I am loving your podcast but totally adore the cardigan you are wearing. I am trying to find the podcast where you might be talking about it - but I can't, so could you let me know where I can find the pattern, thank you xx
Pausing earlier in the video to say...when I'm using Barber cords I always tie the ends together. They always retain their tube shape afterwards...might be a wee kink, but it disappears
LOL! That’s funny. Its NARS matte lip pencil in the color Bad Girl. However, they discontinued this product and reformulated it. They don’t make the same color, but I bet you could find something pretty similar. It’s a dusty nude pink kind of color. www.sephora.com/product/powermatte-high-intensity-long-lasting-lip-pencil-P507545?icid2=products%20grid:p507545:product
I tie a double knot on the barber cord before I feed the stitches onto it. The double knit doesn’t get really tight so you can get it out after you have all your stitches in it. How this helps. Diane

Thank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate deeply being given a place to share my thoughts and be heard. It means so much to me. I can’t believe its MKAL time!! Is that even possible??
Your reminder to be in the present moment is priceless ❤
I’m glad you felt it as deeply as I did Laurel. Thank you for being here 💚
I’ve never seen your podcast until today. What a treat! Loved it and your reflections. Blessings!!!
Yay! I’m so glad you stumbled upon it and enjoyed. Thank you so much for being here. 😘

Oooh, hearing the reminder of not catastrophizing is so needed! Your knitting really inspires me and I love the life chats just as much. 🥰🥰
Thank you so much! Thank you for listening and receiving it all. It means a lot to me 💜
Lena, I love the colors for your tessellated sweater! I can’t wait to see your project in process!
Thank you so much! 💜 I’m excited to swatch and see how the colors interplay.

Your poor kitty!! I feel her pain. They do that to me all the time. Drives me crazy! She deserves an extra snuggle!
the Tesselated colors you've chosen are fabulous, well done you!!!
Thank you Laurie!! I’m glad you like them as much as I do. I can’t wait to swatch!

@@AnotherKnittingPod yes! It’s very fascinating. I find both the mind-body stuff as well as the gender dimensions of it all super interesting.

Remarkably Bright Creatures is the best! They are making a movie out of it with Sally Fields 😍
Hi Leena! Watching from Colorado 🧶
Howdy there, neighbor! I hope fall is around the corner! I don’t know where you are, but its been too warm for my taste.

Yes! It’s the Bubble Cardigan by Stephen West! I made my with short sleeves (obviously) 😘 Such a fun pattern I highly recommend!!
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
Lots of love to you Janet! Happy knitting! 💚
I apologize if I missed it, but can you please tell me what you are wearing? I love it! Thanks so much enjoying all of your podcasts XOXO.
Yes! It’s the bubble cardigan by Stephen West. I made short sleeves instead of long. 😘
Have you learned to “knit back, backwards”? Game changer for knitting a narrow width. I learned how while making the Pangolin Sweater.
You just blew my mind, Beth! I hadn’t thought of it though I definitely have it in my skill set. And now, I’m doing just that! THANK U!!
Pausing earlier in the video to say...when I'm using Barber cords I always tie the ends together. They always retain their tube shape afterwards...might be a wee kink, but it disappears
