I was always fooled into believing you need a daylight 6500k bulb for veg and a 2500k for flower, after listening to Mr Migro's advice I decided to switch to a 3500k LED floodlight from the DIY shop, and the results speak for themselves. Totally outperforms the dedicated grow lamps I was using before, purely down to colour temp. It makes absolute sense that if a plant cannot process more than "X amount" of blue light, then you are wasting efficiency by giving it extra blue light.
So glad I found this channel! No bull. Just the info you need. Getting ready to buy a new light which is the most difficult decision to make imho. Thanks for a great channel! 👍😁🌿
Shane thank you so much for these videos! I would love to thank you somehow for these amazing tests! I have the red/blue light. 3w leds. 65 red and 17 blue along with 4 orange and 12 white 1 infrared and uv = 100. And i can tell you from my cannabis growing that stems stay super short even after 5th node at 5cm! Its really a damn truth! Those type of lights grow most compact plants (okay excluding 5000k) from seed to harvest. And conversion factor (i use to multiply with lux and get ppfd) is pretty high - 0.0292.
Shane I got a great idea for your tests! What about using different kelvins? For example side by side test with the top ones 3000k-3500k-4000k. I didnt notice that type of video and i think it would be a boom :) and for colder whites 4000k-5000k-6000k. Good luck

HELP! Hi, I’m trying to grow strawberries in wertical-hidrophonic system and trying it fully indoor. I have too many problems. Brown roots, burnt leaves ect. Need your all advices.
Hello, Thank you very mucho for the video. I would like to ask... I have an Sf2000 (200w) in a 80cm*80cm grow tent and I would like to add another light for flowering which light would u reccomend..thank u again
hello sir,I'm not good at English. and I just want to ask is ! I want to optimize the 200x200 room area. which lamp should i use ? optic 8+ , solo 1000 , quantum , sp 250 x4 , Can answer for me.Ty sir.
Do you have any feelings about black dog led? I feel like I’ve been doing circles looking for an led that’s above budget price but not above 1000+ dollars, I’m willing to spend up to 1000 on a light
Hi, Great video, but are you maybe selling blue light a bit short? It's a great study cited with a ton of info, but you began by saying as indoor growers we'll only look at the Mass figures, "quantity", red/green. But that study tested a lot of effects and a lot of the "quality" stats, chlorophyll, leaf thickness, color, compactness, aromas, oils, a lot of the "quality" comes from blues, up in the 20%-30%+ range. Reds and greens tip the scales, but the material is bland, blues and UV bring out the characteristics. I feel the more red, the bigger, but the more different strains look and taste the same with paler foliage. The more blue, the more different the colors, smells and tastes. So kind of a quantity/quality balance... You do great vids though, thanks for info.
I agree if you are looking for different characteristics from edibles varying the spectrum will produce different results. It's plant specific though so I cannot really give too much advice on that area.
What do you think of the bloomspect 600watt led? It's a good quality built light puts out 2,000 par at 12", got the new nukeheads par meter designed for testing leds.☢👍
Im confused as to why its RGB. Red and blue are primary colors. Green is a secondary color. It should be yellow instead of green. RYB. I want to see how the pure yellow light spectrum results.
Not an expert here , my experience with different lights started in 1975 with metal halide ! I've tried all of them all and ended up with one 315 CMH , two 150 watt hps converted yard lights , for a 4x5 room ! I grow 6 plants , yield and potency skyrocketed nothing else comes close , 24 degrees constant temperature with 4" fan ! Friends have success with other combos but potency is not there ! I started with one 315 3 years ago in a 3x3 tent , results same as above .
Ive been using a 315cmh in a tent thats close to 4x4 for little over 2months now , with 6 plants and its the best light ive used so far, and Ive tried almost everything.
all spectrums .the plants will use what they need, but if growth only halide ,has light like in a stadium. very bright. for flowering high pressure sodium has amber color to gather is a better yield 24hours for veg ,12hours for flowering, trim all sunleaves 2weeks before harvest ,gets more all over light bigger yield also try adding green sand and granite dust to your ferts inceases yield exponentially
regarding HPS MH and Agro (dual spectrum bulbs) what would be better for flowering? Hps or Agro) dual spectrum) ? in order to achieve higher yields with my tomatoes
There are led grow lights with adjustable spectrum in red blue and green. Not sure if the potential spectrum tuning gives a benefit worth the extra cost of such a system?
I found a lot of the confusing. Sound like one of my old professor from college you just droned on and on and on. Can you use language and everyday people can understand . My grow light is a desktop LED it only has red or blue and equal quantity. I've never seen one with a green light and how we supposed to mix the light ? I've seen people be good results just CFL lights

Very informative video, amazing channel. What you think of them quantum boards with 2 of the 10 led arrays that are 660nm? im deciding between a quantum with all 3000k leds or one with mostly 3000k leds and 2 led arrays with 660nm on it.
unclecrusty1991 no actually man they really don't. That's why during night time cycles you can you a dark green bulb to see in the room without disturbing the night phase. Also, the deal with light is that if you see that color then the plant can't really use that color. So green means the plant reflects the green light which is why we see it as green. So it is near if not totally worthless. Using green in a grow light produces extra heat and uses more power for a spectrum range that a plant can not utalize. Orange to red is good for size but causes stretch so add blue and the internodal length is shorter, less plant stretch and sweeter and or more potent end product but also much more dense. For raw weight it's all about reds and orange. Blue for veg and short strong stems which can then result in the plant being able to hold more fruit or flower. You say pure blue resulted in stretch but that is due to the wavelengths of the blue you use being much to close to UV so not really utalized the same.
unclecrusty1991 I don't usually like to use data off a site selling anything but the info given as far as spectrum response etc is pretty much the same as all that sun systems and also eye hortilux use. Give it a quick read. californialightworks.com/light-spectrum-and-plant-growth/
very informative! nice video :) i like the linking towards the experiment(s) within the video... but mostly the explaining for people that don't want to do research themselves... however... i AM missing the newer strip lights and quantum boards based on (for example) the Samsung SM651C leds?
Thanks for the comment. It's a fair point on the new full spectrum boards and strips on the market. Cant judge them unless ive tested them, I must get hold of a few and test them... take care
How many square feet does 1 of your lights cover ? And nice information I've been fighting myself doing a lot of research but just can't seem to steer away from h.p.s I have a spectrum king on the shelf disappointed in it
A good hps setup is still a good option but you need to spend about €350 here in Ireland and then larger bills. The LED option is just over twice as much now +delivery. Spend any less and you just go back towards the efficiency level of the good hps setup. You get payback on the bills in about two years. If you are in it for while it makes sense now. Each light covers two square feet. Take care
LOL Learn how to grow then. Don't blame the LED's. For the wattage their lights run nothing compares. Besides unless you're running a 1200w DE Gavita then you're not getting better. The only reason you would be doing worse is that you haven't the slightest idea how to grow with an LED light.
Resin production is enhanced by the presence of UV. There is some in COB LEDs but Ceramic Metal Halide has higher level of about 0.7%, about half the suns levels.
Yes. The sun emits 1.4%. Assuming about 20% efficiency for the uv lamp and 50% for high efficiency led or 30% for HID you could calculate the mix yourself. Have you seen our interview with Bruce Bugbee? New research out suggests pulsing uv regularly is as effective as constant. I'll be putting a video out on it soon.
Doesn't appear green light is prevalent in the market. I was assuming given that green is the dominant colour in the plant world, it wasn't important in plant development. The green we see when we look at a plant is reflected light that the plant hasn't absorbed. I've looked at a lot of grow lights, haven't seen green.
Hi Dieno, I would be happy to include them in a comparison if they published PPFD figures. The MIGRO pricing is comparable or better and the light output and spread is as good or better. The HLG 550 is 2.3PPF/watt but they only publish star shaped PPFD charts which are not useful for comparison. Nextlight are 2.15PPF/watt PPF and also only publish star shaped PPFD charts. PPFD is the comparable measure between grow light systems. I am guessing they lose about 10-20% to side wall reflective losses when they are setup in a reflective environment and are both about the same efficiency as MIGRO. The price per PPF is about the same for the HLG and about 20% higher for the Nextlight and they are also trying to spread the light over the grow area. They look like good fixtures.
Chilled Gen2 200W strip has PPF efficiency of 2.87 PPF/Watt. Looks like a great light but do not publish PPFD output for each light at the recommended hanging height (if you can find some please let me know) It has no secondary lenses or reflector so it will lose about 20% of its light to side walls and overspill so PPFD efficiency will be about 2.3 PPFD/Watt. The price for Chilled Gen2: 200W x 2.3 PPFD = 460 PPFD is $649 + delivery. That's $1.41/PPFD + delivery. The price for MIGRO 200: You will get 420 PPFD on the new model for $470 + delivery. That's $1.12/PPFD + delivery. If you have any other lights you'd like me to compare against please let me know.
MIGRO yes they do have spesial moulded secondary magmify/diffusoraking them 7% less output near souece and ALOT MORE EXPENSIVE COMPONNENTS THAN YOUR MIGROS, i aint bashingnon migro at all if ypu ferl that. But i think its fair to include competitors part and assembly costs and warranty and if if only 3000 3500 4000 5000k or has cannabis specific nm peaks upon the for ex quantumboard whites efficiency or cxb3070-3590 too the new cree cxb 200w max topbin . Or compare to market leaders in avg ppfd nomatter price. And imho a cilled gen2 with luxeon sunplus diodes and quantum samsungs with a prooven more terp/flavenoid and other essential oils and cannabinoids. So yes chilled has seconndary highest available priced too with longer ifespan than most also. But as you say.i cant afford neither more budmasters amaretechs or migro or chilled gen 2. But please be honest and dont claim as good spec for cannabis ad chilled with only 3500l cree cobs!!
Hi. Migro. Thanks for your wonderful video. My name is An Jia, come from China. We also have a plant grow light. Dual head 40 LED beads 14 blue and 26 red timing fuction grow lamp. This is a new designed, timing function, and beads life longer. Would you like to test and have it ? If you agree, we would like to ship it to you for free. We promise our product with high quality and workmanship strict.
Metal Halide hands down. The yellow light stretches your stalks=smaller denser plants are preferred, higher thc levels, cooler running temperatures, lower power consumption.....i could list 50 advantages...during the late flowering stage use the hps+MH if you must, be aware hps will shorten flowering time.
Closet grow man like bedroom closet or cabinet style. With hid the most lumen per watt output is generally at 400 or 600 watts. For a closet grow I would suggest using a cool tube with a 400 hps and a 250 MH. If you have enough budget get at least 2 sticks of t5ho bulbs in a higher Kelvin range to help supplement the low mh power. Hps bulbs maintain higher lumen output for longer periods of time and also have much less color shift untill past when the bulb should have been replaced. Hps produces less heat that equivalent power mh lamp to so you can keep more light in the area without increasing heat as much
rick m usually I would agree but in a small area the plant doesn't have a ton of room to grow so mixed it's better. I try and use 50 50 but all tech papers say only 30 % blue
I hate when guy know way to much I like Caveman type simple lighter makes fire start kinda tutorial LOL This Bulb is 10 watts fro Canadien Tire it simulates 300Waqts of sunlight it costs $10 bucks You buy 6 and make a circle of surround light and you plants will flourish. That's it.

5300-6400 Kelvin are the best range for growing plants
Wrong. 4000k 80-90cri gives the highest veg and highest flower spectrums. Google that... 4000k 80 Cri spectrum. It doesn't get any better

Which light would you recommend to buy for indoor rose and Hibiscus... Thanks.!
A white led 3500 to 4000k four temp or neutral to cool. You need high levels of light for most roses, similar to cannabis levels.
so from what I understand the 6500 k isnt the go to like I thought. did you suggest 3000 k or the red/blue is best for growing plants that dont flower
Blue for veg, red for flower.

Power consumption………511W
Average PPFDe…………………883µmol/m²/s

I like your accent, atleast the way you say H. Heych is what is sounds like.
How was the final weight determined, with the whole plant or just the flowers?
Pretty sure that yield stands for the fruit or anything from the plant that it is being grown for, so yes, I think it was done by flower weight.
Do you have any recommendations on lights that fit that spectrum?

That’s good to know because it is significantly more for the 3000-3500k with +red
Why not a 50 50 red blue with no green?
good question. But Red seems to be the most used spectrum. i'd say more of a 30/70

Thanks for the info. Was a good read.
great video amigo, thank you
less talk, more work.
very informative! nice video :)
i like the linking towards the experiment(s) within the video... but mostly the explaining for people that don't want to do research themselves...
however... i AM missing the newer strip lights and quantum boards based on (for example) the Samsung SM651C leds?
Thanks for the comment. It's a fair point on the new full spectrum boards and strips on the market. Cant judge them unless ive tested them, I must get hold of a few and test them... take care
i grow some plants in aquarium under 10w led daylight and plants grow just like they did under 2 18watt tubes.
Hey Shane, I'm curious. Do you have your LED chips manufactured from scratch or is there a specific LED you like to use?
Hi, we use LEDs from a US company, 'Luminus'.
which one exactly? :D
Luminus cxm32 gen3 3500k 80cri
Fabulous! Thanks for your feedback! Much appreciated
Must be why CMH seems to dominate
Great video man
Is 3000K + 5000K, better than just 3500K?
I dont think so just by watching at those kelving graphs
lots of people talk smack about green light and plants dont see or use it, obviously not the case as proven by thisstudy
Great vid thanks!!
Take care
You need care coverage at different stage and draw power to choose a suitable light
Thanks @migro hps definitely pays the bills for me with out a problem ✌🏽
LOL Learn how to grow then. Don't blame the LED's. For the wattage their lights run nothing compares. Besides unless you're running a 1200w DE Gavita then you're not getting better. The only reason you would be doing worse is that you haven't the slightest idea how to grow with an LED light.
internetwarrior666 exactly, i have Black Dog phytomax2 600s led’s. They kill it, especially with autoflowers
your logotype on-screen does not match your logotype on-shirt. check with your graphics people, they know.
You look like a nicer version of Noel Gallagher from Oasis!
Super
MIGRO the great 😂
What led light would you recommend for resin production?
Resin production is enhanced by the presence of UV. There is some in COB LEDs but Ceramic Metal Halide has higher level of about 0.7%, about half the suns levels.
MIGRO what if I got a “10% UV A/B from the pet shop”, would it work well “with” a LED lights that doesn’t have the UV built in??
MIGRO no I haven’t.
Hi john. White light is usually about 1/3 green
? 2.4/efficacy for both HLG & NEXT light pannel's , better change your' sales pitch. otherwise usefull stat's info , THanC's
Hi Dieno,
I would be happy to include them in a comparison if they published PPFD figures.
They look like good fixtures.
ok so better than chilled gen 2 also lol
Chilled Gen2 200W strip has PPF efficiency of 2.87 PPF/Watt. Looks like a great light but do not publish PPFD output for each light at the recommended hanging height (if you can find some please let me know)
It has no secondary lenses or reflector so it will lose about 20% of its light to side walls and overspill so PPFD efficiency will be about 2.3 PPFD/Watt.
I guess 2 years ago it was not now
Could u answer the question in say 15 seconds.... Then do the 9.5 mins of chatting after?
tooday not stouned)
what you all think of the meizhi 300w ?
so great and brilliant
this is a clickbait, i want to see the plants

MIGRO how did this work out??
This is ridiculous they did not include white at all
Answer: THE SUN
Praise the Sun !
W T F ? which type of grow light is best ? is it
h.p.s.or metal halide?
I'm a closet grower.
I like all your advise but your microphone is so annoying,it captures your saliva noise please consider changing your mic
They way you said Utah was real American lol
so slow its boring. speed it up a bit with a little pre production planning: bam! perfect video :)
....go to the "Settings Icon" in the taskbar, and choose a Faster-Playback-Speed....1.5-X works great for slow presentations....and for sports....
I hate when guy know way to much I like Caveman type simple lighter makes fire start kinda tutorial LOL
This Bulb is 10 watts fro Canadien Tire it simulates 300Waqts of sunlight it costs $10 bucks You buy 6 and make a circle of surround light and you plants will flourish.
That's it.
you dont know what you are talking about obviously. also, english.
WEED!
