Really cool Matt and Sam!! Thank you so much! I love watching other artists do their techniques on your platform Matt. I think it's great because theb you get to see what they do and we see it as well, both learning more! So it's a total win for all of us.
I’m looking for someone in WA or OR state to cut my hair like this after the lockdowns. I go from stylist to stylist and they cut big holes in my hair just behind my ears. They also will sneak a razor into the mix after I ask them not to! I need someone to cut my fine hair, it’s fine but I have a lot of it! Looking for recommendations! I can travel to Boise ID, Portland OR or Seattle WA areas from 99336 Kennewick WA when they lift the stay at home. I went back and listened to the questions and as a client, this is what I have to say. I have been asking for a shag hair style for 2 years, specifically I say I want shorter layers in front and top that gradually get longer in back, please don’t use a razor or give me anything that looks like a bob. Every stylist has said “omg you don’t want a mullet!” And I say maybe I do want a shaggy mullet but I really want a shag. After 3 tries of ending up with long Bangs and a chunk of longer hair in front I ended up with a pixie, a year ago January I started growing it out and everybody kept giving me longer layers in front and an A-line in back. I gave up. I’m still hoping I can find someone to give me the shag hairstyle that my natural loose waves would love. Currently my longest layer is about 2.5” below my chin and 2” below nape of neck.
There is this misconception that any shape that is shorter in front and longer n back is a "mullet." I think of Mullets as cut super short, with like...a clipper, and leaving a completely disconnected back of length that looks like "Billy Bob." No. This is a true shag and you can do this on super long hair, with disconnection, too, and it's sexy as hell. Find pictures of what you want. That helps, because we are a visual craft. It's not just a haircut...it's a technique!

Great training! Been following Sam for years and I always learn something new from him! Thanks for sharing!
Sam Villa embodies thoughtful hairdressing and I love that.
love it!
I understand Matt's approach better when cutting, much better angles and staying in the same spot in regards of taking the shot.
Interesting to use graduation for a shag, reminds me of 80's with a twist
Very pretty haircut!! Remembered a mullet style of 80's

Have you shown any of them a picture of what you would like to achieve? Then they can tell you whether your hair is suitable or not
