Bön encapsulates the indigenous religious beliefs of the Tibetan people. As Buddhism started to become adopted across Tibetan regions, Bön adopted many Buddhist ideas, and in turn, Buddhism was influenced by many Bön traditions. Here, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche talks about why he calls the Bön tradition "Bön Buddhism."

Thank you for making this information available. There are many who are called to an old current unaware of what to do. If these ancient understanding were not kept well guarded by elders such as yourself, so many would be lost in a constant cycle of reincarnation.
    ..thank you..

How does one study & practice under the Bon Tradition to become a Teacher, for the good of all sentient beings and one's ultimate liberation?

Bon preceded Tibetan Buddhism by several thousands years. Remember, Indian Buddhism came to Tibet in the 7th century. In spectrum of time, this was about 12 hundred years AFTER Buddha Shakyamuni was born in India. Obviously this begs the question: Which do you think was the dominant religion in Tibet during those 12 hundred years? The answer is Bon, the Yungdrung Bon, practicing the teachings of Bon Buddha Tonpa Shenrab, and seeking protection through Ma Sidpa Gyalmo (Queen Mother of Existence). Once the Indian Buddhism took hold in Tibet, the Tibetan Buddhism was born inheriting much of the Bon traditions that is unique in Tibet. It was born out of significant political power struggle, and the persecution of Bon religion and its followers. Countless Bon temples and scriptures were burned down, and great many Bon yogis had to hide Bon texts in caves before perishing. Bon religion was being decimated and campaign to rewrite Tibetan history ensued (for the erasure of Bon). This campaign continued for centuries to this day. For example, I grew up learning in Tibetan school textbooks that Tibetan civilization started just two thousand years ago through the courtship of a monkey and a female demon. The textbook said before that, the whole of Tibet was beneath a large lake. I won't go any further, but this is a sample of the length of efforts carried out to erase Bon. It seems pretty clear to me that the Tibetan kings like Songtsen Gampo and Trisong Detsen actually weaponized the Indian Buddhism to destroy Bon for political gain and to build alliance with the neighboring countries. Indian Buddhism had already been spreading for centuries in China and neighboring countries before it came to Tibet. It is well known how powerful was the Tibetan empire at the time that even the neighboring emperor of Tang Dynasty had to offer his daughter as a bride to Songtsen Gampo. So, it was a matter of time that it spreads in Tibet through exploitation to build political alliance (with China and India) and to get rid of Bon. Songtsen Gampo's other wife was a Nepalese princess, the daughter of Nepalese king Licchavi.

Bön + Buddhism = Nyingma tradition
Bön cannot claim to be Buddhists. However, we could say that Dzogchen and Bön share some teachings and Mahasiddha teachers in common.
The Nyingma school, the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, was founded by Padmasambhava in the 8th century. It emerged from the synthesis of indigenous Tibetan traditions, such as Bön, with the teachings of Indian Buddhism brought to Tibet by Padmasambhava and other masters. Nyingma places a particular emphasis on Dzogchen, the ‘Great Perfection,’ which is regarded as the pinnacle of spiritual practice.
It seems a bit like “snake oil” for Westerners in a mystical crisis. It would be better to be clear and straightforward. For a Bön practitioner to be considered a Buddhist, they must first and foremost take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, which I don’t think is the case here.

Aren't you just everywhere!!! Spreading negative comments. Wonder why you even clicked on this video and why you are wearing pretty robes in your profile photo. How does one even have time to post like this, shouldn't you be taking refuge in the Buddha? Listen honey, Bön religion has been tormented and ostricized enough by the forced introduction of Buddhism in Tibet. Why keep repeating the same pattern? Same ropes different life. What a waste.

Philosophy? Bons goal is to become a Buddha, and escape from rebirth. They have the same practices. Tumo, Dream Yoga, Tantra, Dzogchen, etc. They have exactly the same terminology as Buddhism. They have monks and nuns, with almost the same robes and rules. Their founder is a Buddha, the deities they worship are Buddhas. They have the 5 element dakinis. They have a female Buddha almost identical to Tara. They have MAHASIDDHAS. They have their own stories of Padmasambhava, and follow Padmasambhava. Bon is literally a school of Tibetan Buddhism lol. There's more differences between Nyingma and Gelug than between Nyingma and Bon.

Bon Buddhism is a fusion, which produces the closest we can get to the Atlantean/Aryan Tantric Mysticism that existed before the Flood. The Reich attempted to revitalize it, as a result there were many German SS including Hitler himself whom were Vedic Aryan in Culture and Bon Buddhist in Dharma. The Reich (Realm) that is Midgard was to be established globally on behalf of the Rigdens of Shambhala who hold Dominion over Agartha
