I sure am glad I read the comments under these songs because I've never heard of this version before. It's too bad this wasn't released but now I have it saved in likes. This version should be cleaned up and remixed with his voice a little louder and clearer. What a great version. Love the guitar at the end and I don't blame Sham and the Pharoahs for being upset that this was not released.

I just want to comment that the Wooly Bully is real. I saw it, in Mexico in the early 60s, an experience I will never forget. No it was not a Bigfoot; something much bigger and scarier.
I believe Mr. Sham saw it too and wrote this song. It did have horns and a wooly jaw.
I don't know if it still exists today. This song was meant as a warning - "watch it". You don't want to see what we saw.

I actually had an interview done with Sam and the studio owner discussing this song, I wish I had kept that as well. I met the guitar player that played on this recording also and he confirmed it was part of the original recording. I grew up and still live close to Memphis so I may try to find Sam and see if he will do a video interview and tell his side of the story. The owners of the studio where it was originally recorded paid me to convert close to 500 songs from tape to a digital format. I was not supposed to keep any of it but I could resist keeping just this one song.

Thanks for sharing "This Version". Good Old Rock is the best. Killer guitar solo. Yes I suspect having a song play over the sacred 3 minute mark in the 1960s would have been a no-no. I have often wonder why that was so? Anyone from a 1960s Radio Station would have an answer/knowledge why? I feel like a youngster here. I am just 67. I missed out on the roller skates phenomenon. I guess by 1968 with everybody tripping on Acid and Maryjane that trying to Roller Skate could have detrimental to your physical wellbeing!

I think that's the most (3 minutes) they could get on a 45rpm record back then. That's why stuff from the 50's was at 2 to 2 1/2 minutes. Just the limits of the technology of the era.

The band didn't realize he wasn't there for a couple miles, and went back to fetch him . He got banged up pretty good. Not so funny then, but as he tells it- lucky to survive.

No offense but this does not sound like it was recorded in 1965. More like 1985 or 95 (and those drums sound so 80’s but definitely not 60’s at all) I can’t even hear the tape saturation on this at all. And honestly despite what other people say about this song I don’t think this song is all that great. I think it’s kind of stupid and it sounds like a song somebody whipped up in less then 5 minutes and it easily could have been written by a teenage boy but not a grown ass man.

luis alcala I’ve created and hosted a successful podcast about 60’s music with interviews from big industry names from back then (including Eddie Holland of Holland Dozier Holland and Shel Talmy) that has garnered a total of 11k listens. I’ve also been featured in Music Connection Magazine 4 times in the past 4 years for my original music. I based my comment on my experience growing up listening to 60’s music as a kid. I know what they sound like having been around that music since I was about 4 or 5 years old and I can pretty much tell whether or not a song was recorded in the 60’s or not (I know about the evolution of recording technology in the 60’s from Mono to Stereo to 4, 3 and 2 track to 8 track to 16 track) I’ve trained my ears to be able to tell whether or not a record was recorded in the 60’s and I just don’t think this version of the song was recorded back then and I also have the street cred of being a musician and songwriter and producer/recording engineer myself. Now am I right? Well i don’t know, but whoever posted this video can probably tell me if I’m wrong or right. I’m just using my best judgement based off of years and years and years of listening to 60’s music and also being aware of other music in other decades as well and knowing the difference between 60’s 70’s and 80’s music sonically speaking.
